Uh, isn't this guy using a national tragedy to promote his bigoted, homophobic agenda?

quote:

Applying the same standards to gay partners and married couples would set a troubling precedent.

Am I the only person who believes that using American planes as weapons of mass destruction is the really troubling precedent?? I realize that despite the freedoms of this country, it's filled with extremely bigoted, racist, sexist, homophobic people, but every now and then, the depth of human ignorance amazes me.

To negate the fact that a civilian LOST THEIR LIFE on September 11th (which is exactly what is being done if their grieving partners are not recognized as people too) due to their sexual orientation is inexcusable.

JYD 4 LIFE! WOOF WOOF!

My life has been a fascinating series of amazing exploits, about which I have many profound insights. But frankly, none of it is any of your business, so butt out!

this is the song that doesn’t end, yes it goes on and on my friend. Well yeah, that's cause in most places, it's illegal for them to do so. So, though I do agree that such compensation should go toward marriages.... they can't get married, so that just throws the whole thing into a very gray area.

Basically, equal rights have a long fuckin way to go, and it won't be fixed for a while, probably not until Gen-X starts populating Congress.

I don't even see why gay marriages are an issue. If two homos want to get married SO BE IT! Who does it hurt? Why should it consider you?

On PI one night an anti-gay marriage person kept saying that it shouldn't be allowed because it would harm the values and cheapen what being married means.

It should be a non-issue yet it was even asked during the presidential debates to Bush and Gore, both of whom were against it.

It just goes to show that no matter what happens in this country no one ever changes, the values and morals are still the same and we are just spiteful, annoying petty people who concentrate on the nothings instead of things that should concern us.

In addition, I voted no. I don't want no faggot getting money that could be going to some good white person.

I think it all started with the Declaration of Independence -- the idea that we had the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That pursuit is what took America from the revolution to the computer age in 200 years. But the progress has come at a price. The obvious being the people that were exploited to make it possible; the not so obvious being us, the first group of people that were given no obvious frontiers to conquer. We hear stories about the good old days that don't seem to apply anymore. It's a generation gap that leaves us without role models. But the bright side is that without role models, there are no roles. Maybe that's what the 60s were all about -- getting rid of the roles. But what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, the choices become overwhelming. Sometimes it just makes everything feel hopeless. So we destroy our bodies in the search of an ideal. Try to salvage relationships that don't work. We feel we must do something, instead of doing something that we feel. It is the prison of self-imposed momentum, and the sad part is that we get used to it. It reminds me of a song I heard the other day. It's called "The Going Nowhere Fast." But the people I have met here have shown me another side of Nowhere. They've pointed out the beautiful irony that stagnation makes it easy to stop and smell the roses, if we just let it. What would we be if we had nothing to rebel against? Well we could finally be ourselves, the first group of people who stopped looking for the answers long enough to appreciate the questions. And all we have to do is to make our own Declaration of Independence. We can embrace the right to life and liberty by simply realizing that happiness exists -- not to pursue, but to accept. After that the only challenge would be to make sure with the rest of our lives that we weren't just another fad. I don't know, it's an idea. What do you think?

the difference is marriage is a legal status. it entitles people to tax benefits, and all sorts of other perks that you cannot have as 'a couple going out for a long time.' that is why gay marriage is such a big issue to people trying to get it, and as far as i'm concerned, they should.

but as we all know, Americans are stupid and narrow minded, so i dont see that happening any time soon.
