| Psychopath Registered: Mar. 02  | Im going to Mexico in a few weeks and I was wondering if anyone has ever been in the Cancun area. | Psychopath Registered: May. 02 | I was there for a week in February to visit friends - not sure of the drinking age is. I can e-mail them and find out. How long are you there for? Are you going for the Jazz Fest? Are you staying in the hotel zone, or are you going to "real" Cancun? You'll have a blast - I'm trying to find a way to live there year round. It's as close as being in the United States, but not. DO take the 3 hour tour out to Chichen Itzo (sp?); do NOT do the bullfights - boring and expensive. As far as I could tell, there are only 4 beers there - Modelo, Dos Eques, Corona and Superior - and they are made by two companies. Any other questions? S/H/I/T/ "The internet? What's that?" | Psychopath Registered: May. 02 | If you are in the "Hotel Zone" there is little need to go into "real Cancun." All of the bars and nightclubs are in the Zone. I only asked because my friends work in the Hotel Zone, but live in real Cancun. Unless you are going to the bullfights, or want a more authentic Mexican meal, or need something at Wal-Mart (no shit!), you can ignore real Cancun. Besides, most Hotels are "all inclusive," and a lot of tourists never leave the hotel. A lot of popular, fun nightclubs and bars along the Zone. Senoir Frogs; Pat O'Briens. And, the best thing about Cancun is that what happens in Cancun stays in Cancun. I'll find out about the drinking age and post it - but, like Red Rocket said, there shouldn't be a problem. | Psychopath Registered: May. 02 | I have put the request in with my friends in Cancun - when I hear something I will let you know! You do know that you are going during the hottest time of the year?? Not only that, but it's prime hurrican season! (And not the losing kind in the Carolinas!). If your hotel is all inclusive, like I said, you pretty much don't have to leave. It's like a cruise ship, and it is wonderful. Up and down the beach, people WILL ask you if you want drinks - they will then bring them to you. You can also get food. Doesn't matter where on the beach. While it's not cheap, Cancun is not expensive. It's about 10-1, but in the Hotel Zone most everything is in USD (US Dollars) as well as the Pesos. Cancun was created by the Mexican government about 50 years ago as a resort - there are no people "from Cancun." If Mexicans want to make some money, they either come to the United States, or the go to Cancun. What this means is that the city is designed to serve people, and all of the Mexicans in the Hotel Zone will speak English as well as Spanish. DO NOT FUCK AROUND! The Police have been known to lock up American kids and leave them there for months and months - for fucking around! Your hotel will have some sort of package deal to go to Chichen Itzu for the day - take it, but be prepared for a long trip. IT IS WORTH IT. There are other Mayan ruins all over the place, but Chichen Itzu is the one to see. The Mayan Ruins surprisingly have little to do with Maya Angelou. Who knew? Bars: Pat O'Briens, Senoir Frogs, Coco Bongo, Dady'O, Dady Rock. Snorkling is a must - swimming is a must. Also, taking an afternoon or evening and going to a real Mexican restaurant to have REAL tacos is a must. Ok...the Cancun lucid train has crashed - when I get word from my friends I will pass it along. (YOU WILL have a blast!) "The internet? What's that?" One more suggestion - if you go to any of the smaller bars, or want to try something "more Mexican/Cancun" to drink order a "Cheladas." It's basically a poor man's margarita; it's beer, ice, lime and salt on the rim. Goes excellent with the (real!) tacos and the hot weather. | Psychopath Registered: Jan. 02 | I've been to Cancun about 6 times so far, first time I went was when I was 12, I drank then with no problem, so don't worry about it (money is the only id you need) As for places to go in Cancun, most of the good ones were mentioned, Fat Tuesdays is always a must if plenty of people are there, but the best club experience has to be La Boom....It, like most of the clubs there, has the 22 dollars to get in with open bar policy, but beyond that the club is really fucking cool (My friends and I were there from 9 to like 3:30 am) and unlike some of the others clubs, there are plenty of bars around (Coco Bongo is the worst, since the open bar is upstairs, and most of the waiters want huge tips before they even think of serving you) Senor Frogs is a must (I suggest sticking to beer though, since the other drinks are way too expensive)....Take one or two tours to some Mayan ruins, try to see Chitchen Itza, get over to Tulum if you can, Coba is great....And if at all possible, try to check out Xel-Ha...It's a lagoon where you can snorkle, swim, dive off of cliffs, it's truly just pure paradise there.
