For all of you New Yorkers who think you have a monopoly on stupid program directors, I retort with this, and I ask, does ANYONE think this is a good idea?

Clear Channel debuts QUICK 106 in Portland

(Portland, OR)...In a radical departure from mainstream radio formats, Clear Channel has created a totally new approach to traditional broadcasting. Friday, June 21st at 12:00 Noon, STAR 105.9 FM (KSTE-FM) changes its name and format to "QUICK 106" ...only the Best Parts of your Favorite Songs ". "QUICK 106" was designed to address the short attention span of today's busy music fan," said Program Director Bill Minckler.

"'QUICK 106' will feature an active library of more than 11,000 songs. 'QUICK 106' is truly the most variety of music ever heard on Portland Radio. Each day you'll hear the Best Country, Top 40, Rock and Adult Hits and lots more of them," Minckler continued.

"'QUICK 106" was born from a brainstorming meeting with Alan Lawson, Music Director, our research company consultant and myself," stated Program Director, Bill Minckler. "We noticed that our consultant's attention span was about seven seconds and the idea of this new format just grew from that!"

An additional outcome of the research study showed that Portland Radio Listeners wanted to know each song title and artist. "QUICK 106" has gone to the extent of numbering every song so the listener will simply need to log-on to www.Quick106.com to look up the song number for each title and artist. "QUICK 106" will play an astonishing 426 songs each and every hour."'QUICK 106" will surely be a favorite to busy Portlanders that need lots of music in a flash," said Minckler

"QUICK 106" is owned and operated by Clear Channel Communications. "QUICK 106" can be heard at 105.9 FM over the world wide web at www.Quick106.com.

I had my dream again where I'm making love, and the Olympic judges are watching. I'd nailed the compulsaries, so this is it, the finals. I got a 9.8 from the Canadians, a perfect 10 from the Americans, and my mother, disguised as an East German judge, gave me a 5.6. Must have been the dismount.

I agree... too many words... you should have Quick 106'ed this article...

here.. I'll do it for you:

STUPID RADIO STATION CHOPS UP CRAPPY TOP 40 TUNES BY ONLY PLAYING THE GOOD PARTS OF THE SONG IN WHICH CASE THERE ARE NO GOOD PARTS TO MODERN DAY SONGS SO THEY WILL PLAY 24 HOURS OF COMPLETE NOTHINGNESS.

--The End.

"We noticed that our consultant's attention span was about seven seconds and the idea of this new format just grew from that!"

So basically, they think they will profit from insulting their listeners by saying no one has the attention span to sit through an entire song? You're right, they may just win the title of "Most Idiotic Radio Station".

Are you pondering what I'm pondering?

Maybe it's me, but I use music to unwind most of the time, or to keep me going as I do other things. I never like to just hear the chorus of a song, unless I'm scanning a CD looking for the song I want to hear. Too busy to listen to music? Never heard of it.

Again, this could be just me, but I like my specialized radio station. I'm pretty diverse when it comes to music, but when I feel like listening to rock music, I don't want to listen to country, rap and pop. When I'm in the mood for a mix, it's not a mix of all types of music, it's a mix of different times...

quote:

We noticed that our consultant's attention span was about seven seconds

And, instead of demanding our money back from this piece of shit, we said, hey, we should honestly believe that everyone is this stupid and come up with some new idea that we will find sucks in the end. Hey, anything's possible. Let's just pretend this sleeping fool did his job and pay him, and pretend we didn't waste that thousands of dollars on his visit.

quote:

will surely be a favorite to busy Portlanders that need lots of music in a flash

will surely be a favorite to busy Portlanders who really could care less to what they're listening to in the background....

Just my two cents about the whole thing....

Joey

That was the part of the article I liked best, actually. If you read it carefully, they say that their Consultant only had a seven second attention span. Makes me wonder, why are you paying someone who can only stay on task for seven seconds?

And to all those who said there were too many words, there's a new radio station you might want to listen to, right here

It's not uncommon for stations at a .9 frequency to round up to the next number, it happens all the time.

Anyway, has anyone actually gone to the station's site to listen to it? It's fucking ridiculous. I could NEVER listen to that crap. Literally 5 seconds of each song. Really annoying, actually.

Nah, I've got activeX disabled on my work 'puter. And oddly enough, it didn't even occur to me to tune into the station itself...
