I tried doing a search in the DB on some key words, but returned thousands of results. So, I started a new thread.
I just had my yearly review this morning and it looks like they are happy with my work. Little do they know what I really do during the day. What are your review experiences? Good? Bad? Have any of you been fired or reprimanded for something? I'm thinking that some of you are out of college/HS/grade school and in the real world. ;)

I've been working at the same firm for close to 5 years and have gotten decent reviews. The salary increases have been OK, but I work for a law firm (I'm in an admin position - one of the staff accountants) so the pay isn't really "stellar". I was planning on making accounting a career, but I've seriously started thinking of shifting goals and going back to computers (IT related) but with the job market being what it is, I'm pretty happy to be getting a paycheck. Now if I can figure out how I can go back to school for computers, I'd be in a much more comfortable position.

As for the reviews I've gotten, the only time something "negative" was said to me was about my internet usage once - but that was when I was using the firm's network. Now I'm on a dial-up (I'm the account dept's "liaison" between us and the software company that supports our system) they have no clue how I spend my free time. Once in a while someone might peek at my screen, but thats what ALT-TAB is for :-D.

Also, if anyone has any recommendations for me as to go about "getting back" into the computer field, please feel free to let me know!

this board almost got me fired about a month ago...but then ftl was on the job and created this groovy cool /work, and all is well in my job...before that i always got decent reviews, and average increases (like 4 or 5%)...but in the mortgage industry, you have to switch companies in order to get more $$...i am just too comfy after 6 years here though

I should've mentioned that as well - since I know they're sort-of watching me (after I've been warned, and they know that I have a modem now) hanging here with the /work board is much easier - and faster too, since I'm moving at a paltry 26400 bps.

my first job out of college i was a JR. Financial Analyst. Basically i was one of about 10 analyst for a small company. I did nothing for about a year....at my review my boss said to me no joke: "you do so little you could be replaced by a monkey". he was probably right, but it wasn't my fault there was no work for me to do. I was so pissed off. oh well...i'm on to much better things now anyway.

Anyone got a position for a qualified MCSE? :-D

I'm currently working three days a week, basically making enough money to pay the bills. But this stinks, and I can do much better, it's just that there's hardly shit out there.

Click here if you're bored enough to email me.

Sure, but you would have to move to DC. We are looking for people that can speak english and have tech background.

Right now, at my sales associate job, I'm still waiting for my first year review ((which, should be rather good, considering I was told I do more work than most of the people)). It's 2 months overdue, and now they're starting to give me reasons of why I'm not doing a good job, even though the store manager said I do the work of supervisors, although I was never formally trained, etc. I do want to leave, but overall, its not a bad place to work. But, if they don't start taking care of their good workers, they're going to lose us fast.

And I already have a secretary job lined up in case they do decide to not to give me the money I really deserve ((or something more than $6/Hr))

I turned my Ivy League Biochemistry degree into working for the family construction business (admin). At the beginning I was paid relatively well (which is one of the reasons I came on board), but over the years my pay has stayed the same because business was always bad while all of the mechanics got union mandated extraordinary increases. After a couple of years they surpassed me, even though I was working longer. Finally about 2-1/2 yrs ago I got pissed off and started thinking/looking to change professions to something in MIS, since that is what I enjoy. I hung around where I never made the jump since that was about when the bottom dropped out of the market.

One of my HS friends, who always called me "the brain" parlayed his computer science degree into being a VP at Honeywell, etc. Another friend became a dentist and has a manhattan practice.

After all is said and done, however, I'm not too bad off. Pay isn't terrible, and best of all I can call my own hours, so if my kids need me to take off, I can at a moments notice.

Summary - pay could be better, but quality of life not too bad.
