Okay, I'm at a fork in the road here.

Currently, your signature is tacked on to the text of each post.

I could make it so your sig displays separately. This would be seamless - you wouldn't see a break between your post and your sig. And when you update your sig, the update would take effect on all posts in the past (well, all posts made after I make the change).

This is already the way it is on another board, but it'll be a cold day in hell before I mention it by name. (HA HO! I hate those references.)

There are some drawbacks.

-Posts made before the change wlll not have the changing sig.
-We won't be able to look back and see old sigs (I don't know about everyone else, but I think that's fun).

And benefits...

-Sigs will be removed completely on /work... this removes the annoying, colorful marquees that are the last thing that draws attention
-Sig changes for all your posts when you change it

So, I'm asking for you guys to help me out with this decision. I really don't know which way would be better for us. There's also a remote possibility that I could make a way for you to choose whether you want an updating sig or not, but that could be annoying... I think I'd rather have one way or another.

And while I'm at it and in a coding mood (being bored at work ROCKS!).... are there any other new suggestions for things you'd like?

I like the idea of the updating sig.

One suggestion I do have: It would be nice to be able to choose which page you want to view before you open a post. Like the last page for instance, instead of opening page 1 which you've seen 10 times already. Also, when replying to a thread, would it be possible to be brought to the last page instead of the first page?

I'd vote against the sig update because I too think it would be interesting down the line to look back and see the sigs people were using.

Doesn't it already do this? What I would like to see is when you edit your post you're brought back to your post and not the first page. It can get kind of annoying.

That other board has another cool feature that I like. The member database can be searched and sorted by name, number of posts, and join date.

I like seeing the old sigs. Isn't there a way to separate them out, but leave them specific to when they were posted?

Totally agree with av8er's other suggestions. Can't think of any more.

Listen, they didn't invent this shit, they're not the first to use any of it, and they certainly won't be the last.

Fucking excuse me if I'm trying to make THIS board a better place for its members. Yeah, they've got good stuff over there. Yeah, I've seen it on COUNTLESS OTHER BOARDS. And yeah, I think maybe we should have some of it.

I have another suggestion. Remove the sarcasm tags. They have totally run thier course and are EXTREMELY irritating. Especially with people like Subzero that use them every single time they want to make a joke. Enough already. Oh, that and the smiley that rolls his eyes.....UGH!

A feature that I find very usefull on other boards (including mine) is the "last post by: %username%"

I don't know about the rest of you, but I hate thinking back and trying to remember, "ok, there was 10 replies before I replied, so I make 11, is there a new post?" It would be just so much simpler to see "last post by: Jack Meehoff" that way I would know that there was no replies.


In the end it doesn't even matter

I think the idea sounds really cool, but I'm not too crazy about the idea of old sigs going bye-bye. I understand the old ones will remain until the change takes place, but after that we're stuck with the same one in every post.

Take for example after 9/11. I, as well as a bunch of people used patriotic sigs and I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of us do that again when 9/11 rolls around again. With this feature, after we change our sigs back, all the patriotic ones will be gone and I'd hate to see that happen.

On a side note, how does this new feature affect or work with random sigs? I don't use one myself, but have noticed a lot of others are going that route. It seems that's the new "in" thing. :-D

I completely agree with this idea... the "new post since last visit" tags need to be changed and that kind of thing installed so that we know when new posts are going up, and

FTL is teh man!

Yeah i started this random sig shit! :-D
I always start trends.

I think members should be able to rate threads.
For example if there are trollish posts, we can all vote bad. If they are good, we can put them in a section where the best posts are.
(like a gold mine, hall of fame or something)

And PLEASE for the love of god do not add any cdih.net features here!! Their board software is so slow and sucks anyway. (and no i'm not saying that just cause they kicked me out, the gta3 fourms use that same ikonboard garbage. you cant even search right.)

That cracked me up!

I cast my votes for:
  • Page #'s shown in thread topic list (for quick jumping to the end)
  • "Last post by" column
  • Sig "stickiness". I suppose anyone who wants all of their past sigs replaced by new images could just replace that image on their host.
This board already rocks so don't sweat those that feel the need to criticize. At least you don't use Ikonboard which routinely crashes my IE6 :-D

I'm all for new changes but, I like seeing old sigs. I don't go back and look at old threads, but when someone brings one up, the only good thing about it is seeing the old sigs. I agree with everyone else's suggestions, they sound good.
