| O&A Board Regular Registered: Dec. 00  | Akira, thought by many to be the greatest anime movie of all time, is being re-released theatrically. The first test run will be at the AMC Empire theater in Times Square, from March 30, 2001 to April 5, 2001. For ticket information, call 212-398-2597. I cannot stress enough how great this movie is, even non-anime fans will love this movie. It has been the inspiration for countless other movies and anime shows, and helped legitimize anime viewing in the United States. They should re-release: Ninja Scroll in the theatres, that would defenitely look awesome, I love that movie, it has some of the best animation I have ever seen... I am also a big Gundam fan, so I can't wait till they start showing the Universal Calendar series on CTN(Even though they will edit it for fucking kids- I hate that shit). Just so you guys know, the Theatre is at 234 west 42nd street, right across from the Port Authority. The movie is dubbed in english (i know it sucks, but it's better than nothing). | Psychopath Registered: Dec. 00 | I don't see anything wrong with Anime's dubbed in english. As long as they are done right, sometimes voice overs are done so badly, or the actor's voice does not match that of the character. The first version of Akira, I don't think they did such a bad job w/ the dubbing... wasn't the greatest I've heard, but it was defenitley good enough to be in a profesional Anime film, and now in the website I read they even re-did the dubbing with different actors, so that should be interesting. The same goes for Ninja Scroll, I was satisfied w/ the dubbing as well. And now that you can find Animes on DVD, some of them offer both versions on the same DVD which is great. Cacasmooches is right, they deleted the original English voicetrack and hired new actors to play the parts. Pioneer does have a pretty good reputation concerning english dubbing, they tend not to "rape" it like most do. Most of the time, the english actors have the voice of John montome, their voice stays consistant no matter what is happening in the scene. Still, i prefer Japanese subbed, because you can still see what the director wantd you to see (english dubbing companies tend to edit out anyhting that would seem controversial, like nudity and sex and violence and cursing). | O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | MOVIE REVIEW.... -of course this is not a new movie but a re-release of the classic anime AKIRA: I thouight that they did a pretty good job on the dubbing part. There was still a lot of blood and violence, and the graphics were just incredible of course.... it's just awesome to watch that movie on the big screen... Trust me when i say that you do not have to be a Anime fan to enjoy this movie. If you are even slightly interested in the Sci-fi genre, you will love this movie.
