Alright, Hosp. I guess I can forgive you for that as long as you didn't mean a word of it :)

I had Dream Weaver pissed at me too? Good God that is just strange to me.

Again I was just teasing.

Is there something I can do to make amends ?

Yes, Hosp. In order to make amends, you must supply us with pornography.

Or just get in the coffin, sir.

Hey, where are all my computer geek friends at? I just approved at gateway.com for a computer and I need to know what's best to buy...looking to spend around $1000, give or take...use mainly for tooling around the net and downloading music, stuff like that

Hey Spit, You can pretty much build you own at Gateway. I have a Performance Series, cost over $2500. when I was done adding things to it.

I recommend at least 128MB of RAM, a HUGE hard drive (mine is 27GB), a DVD rom and CD burner. That will probably be more than $1000, but check out this link: Visit this Website

Best of luck on your choice! :)

Spit, if you buy a Gateway computer, I'm going to come to your house and smack you in the head. ;)

Gateway sucks ass, go with a Dell, if you have to buy prebuilt.

Ok, then, Kid, which sort of Dell should I buy? I don't need anything that fancy, and I'll spend up to $1300

Hey spit, you can get a dimension series for under $1000. Don't worry about the burner or dvd if you don't need it. You'd probably be best going with a PIII 450 or 500 if you can get it. And you def want the 128 RAM. You can always add a cd burner and dvd drive later when you have the money. The processor is the main thing. Get the fastest you can afford. Everything else can be upgraded easily.

Dell is cool, but Kid, what is your problem with Gateway? I have had mine for 18 months now, with no issues. I think they offer a great variety of pre-built machines.

You know what they say, opinions are like assholes, everyone has them! ;)

You are a tech head, why don't you offer to build one for her?

Is Gateway still doing that crap where they give you 'free' tech help, but you pay for the long-distance call to them?

I'm with the KID on this one ! Ronny, you've been lucky, dog ! For your needs Spit, I would look into the Dimension Series, as Krebs suggested. If you know for sure that you're going to add to it, check on the low end Precision Series...

A buddy of mine down in Howell has been back and forth to the Gateway Store in Eatontown about 10 times. Yeah , they're always helpful and cheery, but he shouldn't know these people by their first name now ....ya know what I'm talkin' about Spitty :)

Fudge,

If we didn't just tighten up the allocation/spending budgets recently here, I would've offered you 2 million for that. Oh well.

Thanks guys :) :) :)

Geez, mashed, I have no clue about specs and shit...I just want to be able to download some songs and copy them on disk...maybe learn HTML and Java (possibly if I feel motivated)

I just need something I can finance (yeah, like I'm able to buy anything outright LOL) so I was looking at either Dell or Gateway, but I don't want Kid to come over and beat the hell out of me, so I guess I'll go with Dell

LMAO Capn, weinie

Ron, my problem with Gateway is that they have one of the most intolerable BIOS' on the market. Which is fine, if you don't intend to upgrade, or re-configure anything. Also, every person I know with a Gateway has had to replace some part of it. They just don't sell reliable parts. As for the "parts is parts" theory, that's just ignorant. Dell is known for building reliable machines. My first PC was a Dell, and I would buy one again, if I didn't build my own.

Spit, the machine I pointed out looks like a good deal, don't focus too much on RAM, it's hella-cheap right now, and easy to upgrade. Take advantage of the free CD-RW offer that they have, if you can.

so only go for the 64MB RAM? I can at least afford the 128MB now. I actually know how to install that (well, I'm somewhat computer literate)

ROFL, yesterday at this time me and Dream were discussing whose carpet we wanted to munch

Spit, at the last show I went to (about a month ago) I picked up a 128MB chip for $41. If they have it comparably priced as Dell, get it from them, otherwise, it's not worth it to pay for the upgrade.

My threat of violence, was only virtual, I wouldn't hit ya. :)

128 . and Windows 2000 built on NT. I've heard that ME is causing problems. But I'm sure Kid, or FTL , would be better suited in telling you the best OS ... I go with the level 1 on my carpet cleaning :)
