What are you talking about Kid? Get adopted, Dillon. LOL.
I think that in the whole eight months that I have read the board (Hey, I lurked for months before I signed up) this is the first thread that I have read every single response. I feel that it is because everybody has a valid point. The board activity has definatly worn off. I think that it is like when you where a child and got a new toy, you played with it for a couple of days and then got tired of it. The same with the board, at first everybody here wanted the board to get mentioned on O and A, then it was mentioned. So that is like getting the toy. After a couple of months people left the board because they got bored with it. Not because it sucks, but because of the posts that were purely just trashing somebody who didn't deserve it. I have seen somebody spell something wrong in their post and got "dilloned" for it for three pages. That repells people from coming back.
The mods on a power trip: That is half true and half not... true. Like the little title under my name. Opak gave me the first one because I deserved it. On my previous name a posted something 15 time. I was stupid. Then in the Foundry Chat, we were talking about the titles with a mod in the room. Someone suggested the second one and the mod put it up for no reason. That is abuse.
Last thing before I call this thing a post, (TO A MOD) why can't the sigs be larger than a certain number. Is it because it takes long for pages to load or something?
I was probably just speaking out of my ass this whole post, but hopefully I got my point across.

And just out of curiosity, where did that Strike 1 thing come from? Can somebody tell me why I got that?

Bluetarp, everyone feels bad beating up on a retard, that's why no one will fight with you.

There is no heart in the fightclub threads, that's why they don't work.

Doug, your strike, I believe (I may be wrong), is from the thread about opie's rant on Amy today in gen. You fucked up when you bashed amy (notice the under protection status) and you got a strike for it. I guess only the mod who gave it out (opak I think) could properly explain, but I hope that sheds some light on the situation.

So I got a strike for expressing my opinion? A guess that is another reason why we have to wonder what happened around here. Is the board turning into Germany in the 30s and 40s around Hitlers time? Killed for expressing opinion.

Up started the strike system for dealing with people who claimed they got banned for no reason. It was a way to let the offender know they had done something that some mod didnt like and, as in baseball, three and your out. Asking why you got a strike is grounds to get another strike, especially if your not well liked. How many strikes is Buttmunch up to? He reach ten thousand yet?

:::steps up to the podium:::

From a newbie's perspective....

I wasn't around when the board had its heyday, so I can't really compare how things are as to how they were then. But, I can say in the few months I have been here, it has not only been entertaining, but its been educational. Not in a "what I learned today" sense, but more in a "how to interact in an online community" sense. I enjoy a good bashing on someone who dererves it or asks for it as much as I enjoy a good, thought-provoking topic. Are people spending less and less time here? Sure, I've noticed it as well. Do I? If I do, its probably because I have this thing called life to deal with, and I just can't live in front of my computer - which I'm sure is the case with many other members. As for the board politics, mods and the way they wield their "power", I really don't have a problem with it - their board, their rules. If they wanna move my post, delete it, whatever - fine. If I feel that strongly about it, I may post about it, or contact the mod on the side and see what the problem was. I have never felt scared to post or start a topic, except when I was totally new here. An based on the fact that I've posted, gone through adoption, and made a few new friends, I think I'm doing just fine. This is a cool place to hang your coat up, grab a beer, and have a few laughs. If you really feel that a change has overcome the board - for the worse - and don't want to take the easy way out and leave, try to do something to make it better - that applies not only here, but in life. Whether people post every day or every month, its not how often something is said, its the quality of what is said that makes a message board work.

These are just my opinions, and I realize not everyone has to feel the same way I do - I wouldn't have it any other way. If we all agreed on everything, life would be as exciting as watching paint dry on a wall.

There is definitely something wrong. There were 30 people logged in and the board just went dead. Suddenly it was down to 10 very soon.

Giving strikes without explanation, is about as effective as pissing in the wind. Much the same as deleting a thread prematurely does not let it serve as an example to others.

I'm no mod, and probably never will be. I can only see things through my eyes. But exercises in futility rarely, if ever, produce the desired result. The constant barage(sp?) of stupid posts is testament to this.

Those of us that know the ways of the board, must pass this knowledge along to our newer counterparts.

At the same time, it is not in the best interest of the board to sweep its problems under the rug.

I, for one, am willing to take efforts to create some activity on the board. While I readily admit that it is rather a daunting task, I don't think it is impossible.

In my opinion, when someone fucks up, it's ok to call them on it, to an extent. But, let the mods do their jobs, as far as the location of posts. Make kind suggestions to newbies, until they warrant otherwise.

Holy Christ,

I never thought this topic would go on so long... AV8ER, do you see what you did? Just kidding... Maybe I was wrong in thinking that people just had better things to do, than post here... It seems like there's plenty of posting... Just because you only see 17 people on at a time, doesn't mean they're not making a statement... It's just timing...

As for the mods, well, they run this place, and it's still here, so they must be doing something right... If not, we'd all be spending time on ronandfez.com or something... Anyway, it just goes to show, that the interest, even if it is their interest for 10 minutes as opposed to 4 hours, is still there...

ok let me chime in on this because many of the people here are talking about the "Hay days" when there were a bunch of posters and posts. Well many of you weren't here when it happened. yeah after the bang party we had a shitload of posts that scared away i would say more regs than have left in the past couple months. Every few months we get people who leave and we get people who come and take their place. When people like afrika and fez joined they were newbies and now they are regs who replaced the regs who left.

Yeah i agree that the board may have slowed down but not by as much as you think. We used to get about 10,000 hits a day now we get 8,000 and let's not forget that the logged in thing is to be taken lightly because people come and go every few minutes and it is only people who are logged in. We don't have 35 people on for the whole day. Explain the 8,000 hits. People come and go some read some post some sign in and other's don't.

They hay day of this board was a bunch of topics that we're mostly inane also. Not much has changed i would say we are at 85% level from where we were on the old board.

But i also wanna point out to people like afrika if you miss the interactive posts why not come up with some? Try posting fun stuff rather than bitch how bad it is. Cause if all you're gonna do is bitch then don't. it is easy to complain but it is not as easy to help out.

And i love the "mod power trip" shit, i don't have to nor does any other mod have to explain why we do things. How about dealing with the constant barrage of e-mails and IM's asking questions and people wanting explanations. Mots people are morons when they do it though.

One person just e-mailed me a few minutes ago and he asked why his post was deleted. Great i am psychic now because he didnt give me a screen name or what the post was. Like i move one post a day. I spend hours explaining stuff to people just to have them say "yeah i understand" so why did you waste 30 minutes or an hour of my time? Like you are the one special person i picked out. I deal with dozens upon dozens like you on a daily basis. But i wanna be fair so i explain myself even though i don't have to.

We move, delete, and close what we see fit to close. Sometimes it may be about something you are not aware about maybe a personal grudge between people that may cause problems or maybe a past history who knows.

Bottom line the mods do as they see fit, if you don't like something help out and don't bitch. Don';t like it? leave then. Wanna help stay and do so.

ahem 1918!!!! all i'm gonna say on that.

i also agree with afrika on deleting posts. Some posts o feel will serve as a reminder as to what not to do i either move or just lock and leave it or do both. But some posts are just moronic and need to be deleted. And whenever someone get s astrike 95% of the time it is obvious as to why.

Gonzo... I agree with your point about posting fun stuff. In other words be creative, however, I think going out on a limb and coming up with something different is difficult around here. This place is regimented, and I'm absolutely positive that a lot of threads don't even get started out of the fear factor. This place has its ways, and if someone deviates from them, they get dilloned, bitched at, are given strikes (most often justified, some not), and status changes.

I think it's gotten difficult to post around here. With all the strikes and unflattering status changes, personally sometimes I'd rather just shut up than voice what I have to say sometimes in fear of 'pissing in someone's cheerios', no matter how harmless, or even how malicious the intent of what I had to say was in the first place.

I think we need to lighten up a little. That's all. Not let this place run rampant, but we should ALL just lighten up. That be my 2 cents... I shall now piss off.

Gonzo, to me, it's not about the hits. I'm sure there are a lot of hits everyday, but I would like to see a lot of posts everyday. You are coming across as another person that fails to see a problem. You can say I am complaining, crying, bitching, whining, whatever the hell you want to call it, but I care about this board, and that's a lot more than I can say for some people around here. I participated in this post as more of a rally cry, than a bitchfest.

I figured that I can either sit back and watch as the board slowly declines, or I can be a part of the regeneration of it.

As for posting topics that people will talk about, I think the "Using the board while working" is still one of the more popular threads on this board.

I will not have my opinion on the matter stifled because you call it bitching. I have a stong opinion on this, because I care. I rarely go to lengths like this over something that is insignificant to me.

I know it is alittle off subject with this thread but nobody has answered my question. Why is there a size restriction on sigs? Is it because of loading time, or something different?

Yes, the size restriction on sigs is to reduce load time. Have you ever looked at the board on a dial-up? Sure, it loads fast as hell on my cable modem, but not everyone here has a cable modem. In fact, I would venture a guess that at least 50%, if not more, of the people here are on dial-up. And anyway, why do you need a bigger sig pic? You can do just about anything within the suggested size, you just have to be creative.

Another thing I want to say is that we need the vets around here to keep this place rolling. Kid your absence was definitely noticed the past few days... i don't think it would be the same without your biting sarcasm chiming in all over the place. We've seen an influx of newbies after the radio plugs, and a comeasurate drop off of vets who don't want to deal with it. We see highs, we see lows, I think we all can agree with that. My point.... not a friggin' clue. I think Rodney king said it best when he said "Ouch!"

Just kidding.. seeing if you're still paying attention. I believe he said... can't we all just get along? We're all here for the same reasons... to show support for the show that makes us laugh and keeps us sane from a hard day... to hang out, and to trade a few laughs. That's what this place should be.... fun. Insert Arnold "now we are having fun" sound effect here. When it becomes tedious and monotonous, perhaps then it is time to leave. Otherwise, we gotta keep it rolling... not cuz we have to, but because we genuinely want to. Ok.. now I'm really done.
