How i see the historical Jesus.

My thoughts have always been this, jesus was nothing more than a really good leader and recruiter. he invented a cult that really caught on. How is he different from any other person who creates a gang or cult?

This was a guy who was a carpenter making little money. He had an oedipal complex with his dad whom he had a tough time talking to. His old man was busier than most other fathers.

Sitting in a tavern one night throwing back wine like it was candy. He thinks forget this jew stuff i am gonna go off on my own. Who wants to inheret his fathers business especially since his father is immortal. He thinks i am gonna start my own think i do a couple magic tricks look holy and then get killed and i'll be set for life or atleast life after death.

Jesus has been held in high regard by Christians and non-Christians alike. Regardless of whether he existed in history, or whether he was divine, many have asserted that the New Testament Christ character was the highest example of moral living. Many believe that his teachings, if truly understood and followed, would make this a better world.

Was Jesus Peaceable And Compassionate?

Jesus looked at his critics "with anger" (Mark 3:5), and attacked merchants with a whip (John 2:15). He showed his respect for life by drowning innocent animals (Matthew 8:32). He refused to heal a sick child until he was pressured by the mother (Matthew 15:22-28).

The most revealing aspect of his character was his promotion of eternal torment. "The Son of man [Jesus himself] shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 13:41-42) "And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched." (Mark 9:43)

Is this nice? Is it exemplary to make your point with threats of violence? Is hell a kind, peaceful idea?

What Moral Advice Did Jesus Give?

Marrying a divorced woman is adultery. (Matthew 5:32)

Don't plan for the future. (Matthew 6:34)

Don't save money. (Matthew 6:19-20)

Don't become wealthy. (Mark 10:21-25)

Sell everything and give it to the poor. (Luke 12:33)

Don't work to obtain food. (John 6:27)

Don't have sexual urges. (Matthew 5:28)

Make people want to persecute you. (Matthew 5:11)

Let everyone know you are better than the rest. (Matthew 5:13-16)

Take money from those who have no savings and give it to rich investors. (Luke 19:23-26)

If someone steals from you, don't try to get it back. (Luke 6:30)

If someone hits you, invite them to do it again. (Matthew 5:39)

If you lose a lawsuit, give more than the judgment. (Matthew 5:40)

If someone forces you to walk a mile, walk two miles. (Matthew 5:41)

If anyone asks you for anything, give it to them without question. (Matthew 5:42)

Is this wise? Is this what you would teach your children?

Was Jesus Reliable?

Jesus said that whoever calls somebody a "fool" shall be in danger of hell fire (Matthew 5:22), yet he called people "fools" himself (Matthew 23:17).

Regarding his own truthfulness, Jesus gave two conflicting opinions: "If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true" (John 5:31), and "Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true" (John 8:14).

Was Jesus A Good Example?

The "humble" Jesus said that he was "greater than the temple" (Matt 12:6), "greater than Jonah" (Matthew 12:41), and "greater than Solomon" (Matthew 12:42). He appeared to suffer from a dictator's "paranoia" when he said, "He that is not with me is against me" (Matthew 12:30).

On the whole, Jesus said little that was worthwhile. He introduced nothing new to ethics (except hell). He instituted no social programs. Being "omniscient,"

I am catholic, and i was not offended...You shouldnt be offended by opinions of others anyway..

You make some very good points i must agree
I dont know where i stand with my religon anymore anyway

A man lies in his bed in a room with no door
He waits, hoping for a presence, something, anything to enter
After spending half his life searching
He still felt as blank as the ceiling at which he stared
He is alive, but feels absolutely nothing, so is he?

When he was six, he believed that the moon overhead followed him
By nine, he deciphered the illusion, trading magic for fact, no trade-backs
So this is what it's like to be an adult?
If he only knew now what he knew then

Froy is the atheist i am the jew, jesus was born a jew but i guess we weren't good enough for him.

He started a cult and he was the original rebelious hippie child. Defy me the resemblence between jesus and most tree hugging hippies of the 60's. Wacky eye's, long beard, the slippers the wacky ideas.... ehhh

Why is it that so many catholics lose their faith? And everyone knows that Jesus was just a religious communist. He's more extreme than soviet communists when you think about it. BTW jesus never started his own religion. It was the apostles.

I'll tell you why I lost mine... because it was forced on me when I was younger.... and I got to a point where I didn't feel as if I was practicing whole heartedly.

I think it's completely possible to be a moral and spiritual without religion. I think religion came around at a time when people didn't know any better. Man has always had the need to explain the unexplainable, and what better explanation than a supernatural force that created the world and all of its components. Man is too smart and inquisitive for his own good, hence we felt the need to put rhyme and reason to our existence.

My two cents. I shall now piss off.

OK im a muslim. I should have never wrote that. My parents never tried to shove Islam down my throat and I'm better for it. My mom always agreed with me when I said organized religion was bad. It's a good idea but people fuck it up. People like to say Maryilyn Manson is evil but the Catholic Church has caused much more evil than rock music could ever hope to. And people misinterpret shit all the time. In the Koran it says for women to dress modestly not to cover everything except their face. When religion is organized and has power it becomes corrupt. That is why it is wrong. Look at Bhuddism it isn't so organized and when have you heard of Bhuddists shoving their religion down your throat.

Well look at it this way, we are supposed to believe in a relegion where the most notorious kid touchers preach? Priests suck more alter boy dick than whores at hunt's point!

Why yes I am an Atheist and I find nothing wrong with any faith or following. It is just not for me.

But, remember, all walks of faith preech about peace and love towards one fellow man. Explain this, there has been more blood spilled in the name of God in all his versions than all other wars, aids, cancer and drup overdose combined times two!

And Thats The Bottom Line.....

Well u gotta understand, back in the roman days, everyone was right handed. Well not truly, but in public, u were supposed to do all ur shit w/ur right hand. And if u were to smack some hoe, u were supposed to do it w/the inside of ur hand. back then, if u did it w/the inside, u were tellin the mudafuka u owned his ass and were superior. So when u smack ur hoe, u hit their right cheeck w/the inside of ur right hand.

Now, knowin dat, Jesus is sayin be a smartass and stick it to 'em. Turn ur cheeck, make them use the outside of their rite hand. Back in da day, if u used the outside, they weren't yo hoe no more. They were ur equal. Jesus is sayin, tell them that no matter what, u equal. Das jus my 2 cents tho. I'm sry that this post is really messy and kinda messed up, but try and follow it.

ok bangster so you have added something else i trully believe in. The bible is nothing but an out dated collection of some cool stories that sound like made for tv drama's i can catch on lifetime. They are not to be worshiped because they were written centuries after the death of jesus and the so called word of god was written by men. Namely horny monks who drank lots of wine.

It's a book that protects farmers and cattle.

Well yea u got a point there. We're obviously not the same civilization we were back in Rome. Hell, we're not even on the same continent anymore. But some of the shit in the new testament could relate to us. Jus gotta look at Paul and John's letters.

Jesus was black, and therefor lazy, what did you expect him to do? change the world?

IMHO, Jesus was a figment of some writers imagination. There is no god.

Although I was born and raised Jewish, I denounced religion at an early age to the dismay of my family. I am an atheist and have grown to view religion as a cult which is accepted by society. The bible is no different from ancient Greek mythology. It is stories used to explain things and discourage certain behaviors. Religion and the fear of God's wrath is what makes some people "behave" because of their fear of "Judgment Day."
People tend to hide behind their religion because it gives them power....the Catholics will all ban together to fight abortion, because being Catholic gives them an identity. And that truly is all that religion does. Who needs a religion to tell you how to worship or live your life? Do Jews really need a "God" to tell them not to mix milk and cheese? Religion is a safety blanket that many people hide behind....its hard to say "Hey, I don't believe in God." I know whenever I tell someone that, they tend to get offended and try to ram their ideas down my throat...because they think I need to be saved...and I am sure some people reading my post might feel the same way...

How I'm craving you, yeah!
Every time I'm near you
I always want to swallow you down
I'll be right here if ya' need me
In my life, I'll need you here, don't ask why
I'll never disappear
