not to bring this back to topic or anything, but i have 3 sisters and two parents that i, believe it or not, actually miss now. i've known a lot of people who've been in the same place their whole life, and to a point i feel kinda sorry for them for not seeing the world and all that new age crap. but i now have 2 sisters in england, two parents in florida, who will be retiring to england, and one sister who, hopefully, will be coming to college on long island. also, there's a multitude of grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and just recently a nephew, all of whom live at least a couple thousand miles across the ocean. so, any of you who talk about not liking your family should just appreciate what you've got. you can choose your friends but your family, you're stuck with, you should be glad. and that's my contribution to the happy happy joy joy board for the day.

Hey i always thought it was "Snootchie Bootchies"

A man lies in his bed in a room with no door
He waits, hoping for a presence, something, anything to enter
After spending half his life searching
He still felt as blank as the ceiling at which he stared
He is alive, but feels absolutely nothing, so is he?

Good Morning, beloved adopted Dad.
I'm not sure about the spelling (& I doubt Kevin Smith is either?) but I spelled it like I think it sounds.

Skitchr, thanks for the sweet thought.
As I mentioned, this does not have to be a happy shiny people type thread. Any & all family type stories are welcome, including dysfunctional ones. Sorry to hear about you and your brother.

Another one from the "why I need Therapy file":
My Sister and I were shopping for Christmas presents when we decided to go and call our mom for ideas on our Dad's gift. We went to the lobby of the hotel next to the local department store (which also was a rumored brothel, the hotel, not the store) In the midst of the call to Mom our great uncle walked in laiden with presents, nodded at us and continued upstairs. Needless to say Betsy and I were floored! That night at dinner we further learned that he tried to pick up our mom when my dad brought her to a family party when they were engaged!EWWWWWW! The day after Christmas we had to go over to our Great Aunt and Uncle's house for Brunch. This we were looking forward to! When we arrived, my sister and I were "grinning like retards staring at a ferris wheel" He met us at the door and the look of shock mixed with "OH SHIT I AM BUSTED!!" was priceless. The rest of the day he was our own personal lap dog, treating Betsy and I like kings! Too funny!

Still laughing, Hudson-
THAT is precisely why I started this thread, to share heartwarming stories such as yours.
Here's a nice one. When I was 17 I got my tattoo (more to come soon). When my Mom saw it, she was pissed, but she could deal. When my Dad saw it-he said, & I quote---
"Only sluts and whores get tattoos"
I refused to speak to him for 6 months.
We get along great now, ever since he took the stick out of his ass.
Man, that was a big vent, WHEW!!! :)

Yet another! One time while watching a movie (I forget which one) The main character has a gun pointed at his head and my father, a former FBI agent and Green Beret, loses it and says "In real life the guy could have taken that gun out of his hand!" At which he goes upstairs and comes down with his .45 caliber Smith and Wesson. He points it at my head and says "now take it out of my hand before I pull the trigger" Needless to say, I almost pissed myself! My mom was about to press the final 1 on 9-1-1 when I noticed that there were no bullets in the gun so I took the gun from him. Then he said "now I'll try". So I pulled the hammer back and put pressure on the trigger and started to bring the gun up towards my father when BLAM!!! I put too much pressure on the trigger there was a chamber in the round and Blew a hole in the wall about five inches from my dad's head about the size of a basketball!
Both my dad and I DID piss ourselves on that one! My mom almost had a heart attack! My dad and I were deaf for about two hours, and during that time he and I got drunk on "old grandad" I was 17 at the time and the first time I ever drank but my dad said it would soothe my nerves and basically poured it down my throat. But it became a real bonding moment. But then again I grew up in rural Pennsylvania, and all this stuff is normal out there.

My brother Sean is arriving tomorrow from Phoenix for a week's vacation with me. We are very close, but I have not seen him in person for 4 (FOUR!) years. I simply have to share this corny crap-
I AM BOUNCIN' OFF DA WALLS HERE. I'm so f'in happy about this. I'm wondering-has anyone else experienced a similar feeling? Any cornball stories to share with me??? Or Dysfunctional Family Fun? Any and all thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated, as I doubt I will sleep this night.....either way, thanks bootches, and have a lovely evening..............

OK...If you want to talk about dysfunctional. I actually get geared up anytime an unofficial/official messageboard function is planned. For those few hours that we hangout, all the daily bullshit I deal with just melt away. I should have gone to the last gathering last Friday/or last night since it would have helped in pulling out of that spirlling depression I have been on lately.

Please let me know. Wanna help you out if I can :)

Yes aunt Claire i noticed and i know why. Cuz he finally realized he was bein a dick and that he shouldnt have said what he said in the first place. Anyway, i got a story for this thread. When my oldest half brother was still livin here, he and my father would get into fights constently. So one day my brother had had enough. He went outside with a baseball bat, and shattered every window on the family station wagon. My dad saw this and flipped on him and they got into a fist fight. Cops came, arrrested my father and he couldnt come back to the house, he had to stay on our boat down the shore for an entire week.

Then there is Aunt Pauline, My Great Aunt and Matriach of the family. She is "senile" now in a home. At one time she was one of the head Psychiatrists at the pentagon(one of the first women in the field!) She "fell in love" with a man in WWII who left her at the altar and never married. She Stopped driving in 1955, after she struck a child who ran out after a ball and killed her.
Pauline has celebrated Christmas with our family for 20 years. Every year she declines. Last year it was a fight between myself and my father(who are both EMT's), and my brother in Law(who is an ER. Doctor, as to whom was going to go up to check on her to see if she was still alive at brunch. The woman is classic class, replete with 10,000 furs and such, she was friends with C.S. Lewis. Last Thanksgiving, she came to dinner with her undergarments on the outside and singing "When Johnny Comes Marching Home"
The woman Is worth big bucks and was the coolest aunt I ever had! Now she eats pudding salad and cannot find her telephone! Old age Sucks!!

Another One is the Funeral of My GrandFather.
The guy was 88 years old when he died, a chimney smoker, and "Grandad old Fashioned, but not too much water 'cause grandad can't swim" type of guy.
He died of heart failure/old age.
Mom could not deal with this, so of course, she blamed the alcohol. Which did claim her brother, who was a sick ass drunk and died if liver failure the year before and was cremated.
Now Fadoo, as my sister and I called him, was a former Funeral Director, and a practicing catholic.
In the town he worked in for 50 years and had a reserved pew at church... the priest almost refused to do a mass for him and his son because both were cremated, or the internment because both souls were unretrievable under catholic burial law, because they were cremated.
WAIT!!!!! IT GETS BETTER!!!!

That is resolved and the funeral goes on. Apparently there was a few shoeboxes with documents that my father perused over with a will and insurance forms before the funeral, which shortly after the wake dissappeared, presumably into my other uncle's hands. But we will never know. :) Do we feel all warm and fuzzy now?

God dam hudson that sux ass man. I got another one. Last fall, both my fathers parents passed away. First my Grandmother who had cancer for a while earlier in the 90's. it went into remision but not for good, it reared its ugly head in full force around last August and september. It finally got her a few days before the hurricane last year. A month later my grandfather gets nimonia and is never the same again, (we think he had a slight stroke, but not big enough that u could see it when u looked at him) After grandma passed he just didnt want to go on anymore and didnt want to get better. We understood that but we told him that he still had us, he didnt care though. He wouldnt eat a thing, he was thinner than my older sister, and shes small. Long and painful story short, he passed a month after her and it was defistating to my father, and the rest of the family. Well theres another sadd story.

NJ Dude, no problem, & thanks. I actually expected MORE ribbing about my title. My being but a lowly Newbie Peon, I expected a hell of a more abuse than the teeny bit I got.

For real "Family Ties", just check out Faceman's pic & lyrics. When he posted that, I laughed so fucking hard, I fell off of my chair & scared my poor cats half to death...
