| Psychopath Registered: Oct. 00  | I have windows98 and when I use shutdown via the start bar,it takes forever or even doesn't shut down at all.I just see the win98 shutting down splash screen. Any help here?  | ||||

Back to topic: chances are, if you have reached the splashdown screen, all of the programs have been shut down, so it's safe to turn the computer off. But really, it would just be easier if you leave your system running all the time, and just turn your monitor and speakers off if you don't want to be disturbed at night. | Psychopath Registered: Jan. 01 | grumpy had it, just do Winblows update and that should cure it. I had the same problem with my system. As for the whole power thing, I telecommute. I have a PC and sometimes a laptop on, 19" monitor, DSL modem, router,speakers, cordless phone and fax machine on all day 5 days a week and turn of the fax on weekends. My bill wasn't bad at all. The printer is actually the biggest power hog in the bunch. Unless you are printing or burning CD's all day long you shouldn't see a big difference in the power bill, if any. Ok Mr mailman answer to your question on your shut down problem is one of 3 things. 1. if you are running McAfee software make sure that the scan for the floppy drive on shut down isn't checked 2. Win 98 2nd edition has shutdown problem if you are running a lan carding on your pc like for a cable modem, DSL or on a lan at work.
