It has a fisher price type look and is very whistle and bell heavy. It is 32 bit, so like 2000 there are no 16 bit dos type apps, some games may not work, but thats all I know. For me personally, it is not worth it. 98 is better for home use.

Apparently, to fight software piracy, Microsoft has come up with a way to allow an end user two or three re-installs - after that, you will have to "re-register" XP with Microsoft, probably via the net, upon which they will send you a new cd-key to use to reinstall for a nother few turns. If you ask me, it sounds more like deomographic targeting - there are TONS of games out on the market that use copy-protection, some make it so much of a pain in the ass to crack its easier to drop the $30 on the game. IMHO, Microsoft is making a HUGE mistake implementing this - look at the cluster-fuck that came out of the serial number on their PIII's being sent to them "behind the scenes" caused!! Aside from that, I really haven't heard many negative things, though I know its still in a beta stage, and a lot of people are saying its very stable. Unless I hear enough good things about it, Win98 stays on my machine. I'd rather deal with the occassional shut-down error than have to email Bill Gates for permission to reinstall a disc I'll have paid him $80 for.

They through in the bells and wistles, but didn't bother to clean up theri code. 2, M$ is already saying don't upgrade, it must be a clean install, what a pain in the ass. I will stick with 98 or ME when I buy my next machine. If it comes with XP I will get it without an OS. Kwyjibo Adopted by Brokenjaw Thanks to PanterA for the sigpic

O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Here's a previous thread on XP Visit this Website MS has always said that you shouldn't upgrade. It's their way of spurring pc sales. The beta cd says you can only install it on one pc. It goes through some internet activation. But I installed on multiple pc's with no problem God is my favorite fictional character!
