Kid, nice topic. I like this Philosophical stuff...

Reality=perception (how one observes and takes in his/her world on a personal level)

Perception=what one partakes of-i.e., sight, sound, taste, feel, memory.

Reality=perception=personal experience, insight, emotion.

In other words, Reality as a concept is inexplicable. It can be discussed, observed, dissected, philosophized, explained, etc., ad nauseum-but it cannot be SOLVED. There are too many variables. It is too subjective a topic.

So, we're all basically on our own.

Reality is what YOU make of it.

Yes, this indeed made me think for a second.... I believe that a second is just long enough to reitterate the words of a great man we all know. The man.... Richard Pryor. Thr phrase that comes to mind... "Saaaaaaay WHAT?!!!!!!" :)

Reality is usually not what people believe it to be.

Well, I was going to try a serious response full of the phrase 'a priori' and quoting Imanuel Kant and Voltaire...but someone beat me to it.
I am inclined to agree with Descartes on the notion of reality. There is a duality of man, the real world part and the logical mind. Reality is not what we see or hear or taste with the real part, but what we interpret through the mind.
What exactly is the color red? Can you describe it to a blind man? The answer is no, because it has no meaning unless your mind can interpret it.
This is way too intellegent for me to be on a Sunday afternoon, so I think I'll go back to sleep now.

Ok, even though this thread is making me twitch over college philosophy memories (I minored in it) I'll throw in some of my thoughts:

What do we know about things that exist? We can see the appearance of an object with our eyes, but does that prove it exists? One will find that a major difference exists between appearance and reality. Appearance is what things seem to be; reality is what they really are. Appearance depends on one's perception. These perceptions can differ according to his or her life experiences and views of the subject.

Average people do not question their own reality because common sense tells them what they perceive is the truth; they rely solely upon their senses to determine the "reality". However, the senses can deceive. Descartes said that what he had once accepted as truth he had gotten solely from his senses : "Now I have sometimes caught the senses deceiving me, and a wise man never entirely trusts those who have cheated him once." The realistic qualities of dreams and mirages are just two ways in which the senses can deceive.

By deeply investigating our reality, as Russell once looked at the shape, texture, size, color,and touch of a table and realized that the "real" table is not known immediately to the senses, we may realize that we cannot rely solely on our senses to find the truth. You may recognize that by looking deeper that possibly the one thing we thought we knewabout reality is not what it seemed to be in the first place.

The most important thing is to examine your life, thoughts, perceptions, and beliefs---your reality---to rid yourself of the ignorance of knowing something you do not. We must rely on our intellect in conjunction with our senses.
