| O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00  | NY POST June 6, 2001 Don Imus' new sports reporter was fired yesterday after calling Venus Williams an "animal" and saying she and sister Serena have a better shot at posing nude for National Geographic than Playboy. Sid Rosenberg got the boot from Imus' WFAN show just hours after his outlandish remarks about the famed tennis queens. The tasteless blasts came as Imus and his crew reported on the French Open tournament, in which Serena was defeated by Jennifer Capriati yesterday. Rosenberg said he couldn't stomach either sister and called Venus an "animal." A stunned Imus briefly silenced his sports man, screaming "You're a moron! You're a degenerate!" But Rosenberg defended his remarks. "I can't even watch them play anymore. I find it disgusting. I find both of those, what do you wanna call them . . . They're just too muscular. They're boys," Rosenberg complained. "One time my friend . . . he goes, ‘Listen, one of these days you're going to find Venus and Serena Williams in Playboy.' I said, ‘You got a better shot at National Geographic.'" Private eye Bo Dietl, a regular on the show, said: "Sid, why don't you take my gun and put it in your mouth?" The Brooklyn-born Rosenberg insisted his quips were not racist. "Nothing could be further from the truth . . . When I see women that are that muscular, classically boys, then that's how I refer to them . . . It has nothing to do with the zoological sense of the word," he said. WFAN general manager Lee Davis confirmed the firing. Rosenberg could not be reached for comment. The Williams sisters were also unavailable, but a source close to the famed athletes said: "It's outrageous, what he said." _____________________________  Just another observation of insanity. | ||||

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Mar. 01 | At least he is kinda known around the country now. poor guy..they really weren't racist remarks, it was kinda like Coselle saying "look at that lil' monkey run" refering to the nimbleness of the reciever, not his race. I'm all for freedom of speech, but this is something that will negatively affect the Imus program (Not that he needed Sid's help.) If Sid was taken away in handcuffs, then I would say something is wrong in this country. But he made a clearly racist remark and was fired for it. His comment left Viacom and CBS with a black eye and when you do that to your company of course you should be fired. If not, then what does it take to get fired? You really can't compare this with Cossell because he said "Monkey" once. Sid said "animal" and she "Belongs in National Geographic" and called them "disgusting." Cossell's remark was a one-time thing and the difference between this and a one-time thing is Cossell could've talked his way out of it. Sid Rosenburg got fired for being Sid Rosenburg, the bitchy angry whiner he is. His voice is like a drill that digs into your skull. You can get away with those kinds of remarks when 11 people listen, but when your show isn't in last place, people notice hatred and see right through it. This was obviously just a way for Sid to get his name in the paper and so far it ain't working too well if it was only in the NY Post. | ||||
