Personally I think:

*The Excorcist should be #1 cuz that movie was just f'n insane.

*Taxi Driver was overrated, and

*A Clockwork Orange should be higher up.

Once again, AFI has issued a list of bunk. I have yet to see one of these AFI lists that was pretty solid from top to bottom. The biggest issue I have with them is that they will put a 1930's film high on the list in order to seem more high brow, while movies that were definately more fitting to the category are dropped way too low. All these list are pompous.

Now two, TWO! spots open!

Hey... in defense of this list to all the critics out there, I'd say it's not too shabby. You ever seen the VH1 and MTV best of all time lists? Now THOSE are bad lists.

Ps... Slackjaw, Considering the technology some of these guys had to work with, these were pretty intense guys. Playing on people's internal fears more than presenting visual ones. Psycho and the Birds for example... Hitchcock wasn't graphic, yet those movies are scary as #@$%. Also the older movies on that list near the top are signs of the time and just because are not as technically spectacular, doesn't mean they don't deserve the same recognition. King kong for crying out loud.. watching that movie now and seeing all the breaks in the stop motion animation is just silly... but imagine how Ape Shit people went over seeing that back then? (pardon the pun).

I don't think this list is all that bad.. it's a good cross section from a lot of different time periods, spans a few genres, and is representative of a lot of the best popular film makers around.
