I take this title from the Front Page of the Daily News. I am writing this thread just in hope to have some feedback from the people of OA.com in memory of those three brave firefighters who gave thier lives yesterday, and to those still fighting for their lives in the hospitols. This explosion in Queens has left 8 children fatherless on Fathers Day. I pray that god watches over these men, and I give thanks to them for their sacrafice, and I thank ALL Firemen across the country who risk their lives everyday to save the helpless in their time of need. Godspeed to the firemen who are on the job today, and to those who have given their lives in the past.

I salute firemen because there is nothing more unselfish. To put your life out there on the line every day deserves respect.

To fight fires is a insane job. you throw yourself at something everyone else is running from. you save lives by the dozens and maybe get a lil recognition, but alot of firefighters are volunteers, no money, no retribution, for risking their life. i have always saluted firefighters, and i always will. God bless those 3 men who gave their lives, and to all the firefighters who have lost their lives saving people they never knew.

May they rest in eternal paradise.

Hey, my prayers go out to those families left behind. Those men were very brave to take up that line of work, and sacrificed everything for it. More power to them, and godspeed.

I wholeheartedly agree...
:slautes the fallen:

When I have fears that I may cease to be
Before my pen has gleaned my teaming brain,
Before high-piled books, in charactery,
Hold like rich garners the full ripened grain;
When I behold, upon the night's starred face,
Huge cloudy symbols of a high romance,
And think that I may never live to trace
Their shadows, with the magic hand of chance,
And when I feel, fair creature of a hour,
That I shall never look upon thee more,
Never have relish in the fairy power
Of unreflecting love--then on the shore
Of the wide world I stand alone, and think
Till love and fame to nothingness do sink.

You guys know I'm usually one for joking around, but not here
I've known too many firefighters who've gotten injured doing one of the most selfless jobs I can think of to screw around about this.

Public servants like firemen and police usually only get recognized when one of them does something wrong, or if there is a tragedy. No one realizes what they go through every day to make our lives safer, we only think about it at times like this.

These men truely are some of the bravest. My thoughts are with them and their families.

From cowardice that dares not know the truth,
From laziness that is content with half-truth,
From arrogance that thinks it knows the whole truth,

Firefighters and Police risk their lives to save others but also let us not forget the sunbathing rescuers, the lifeguards. Being that summer is coming up...they keep our beaches, pools, lakes, and whatever's safe so we can have fun and cool off...their lives aren't on the line but their job isn't easy...I know...I am one...

It's a shame that we can only salute those that serve when tragedy rears it's ugly head. These people serve, without question or hesitation every minute of every day.

The next time you get pissed because a fire engine, rescue crew or police officer incoveniences you because you have to pull over to give them the right away, or you have to detour around there activities and it made you late, think twice.

These brave men and women respond without thinking about the risk. They put your safety and well being above all else. And unfortunately, the sacrifice is sometimes the payment of the ultimate price.

To the children of these fallen heros, hold your head high, remember your fathers sacrifice always. Be proud as we honor them forever.

The Fireman's Prayer

When I am called to duty God,
Where-ever flames may rage,
Give me strength to save some life,
What ever be it's age.

Help me embrace a little child,
Before it is too late,
Or save an older person from
The horror of that fate.

Enable me to be alert and to hear the
weakest shout,
And quickly and efficiently,
To put the fire out.

I want to fill my calling and
To give the best in me,
To guard my every neighbour and
Protect his property.

And if according to my fate,
I am to lose my life,
Please bless with your protective hand,
My children and my wife.
~~~~~
To honor the three Wolfeboro Firemen who have died in the line of duty, we offer this.
Samuel Libby - October 1929, Lyle Colby - December 1960, Eugene Lehner - January 1969
Support the NYFD when you're in NY.
They do alot to save you when there's a fire.
I always thought that being a policeman was tought but firefighters are even tougher.
If it is true that two adults advised a 12 year old to "KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT" after accidentally starting that fire. Someone should come up with a special death/torture penalty for them.This would honor the memories of all brother and sister's who have "died in the line", and ease the pain of those who heard the radio call for help but could not.
