Sunuvabitch! I get back from the optometrist a few days ago, and (after finding out that I have 20/50 vision) I can't have the procedure until I'm 25 (at least) and possibly 30. I don't wanna wait for around 10 years to get this done! I thought this was the revolutionary procedure of the 90s (and now 00s) and they can't accommodate the 30- crowd?

Technology needs to be more gooder.

BOO HOO!
You must be suffering.

Seriously, why do you have to wait so long?
Is there some kind of eye maturation period?

Fez my wife was 24 when she got hers. We went to Diamondvision and Dr. Filatov. She did nto see an Optometrist to get it done. You come in for a free checkup to see if you are eligible or not and how much it will cost. It cost us $1250 an eye and she sees perfectly now.

Well it might be good to wait. Might make your Eyes fall out in ten years anyway.
And just to help you out.
LASIK

LASIK (Laser-In-Situ Keratomileusis) is currently the most common type of laser vision correction procedure. It is an extremely effective outpatient procedure that is suitable for low, moderate, and higher prescriptions. It can be used to correct severe prescriptions, and is currently one of the most commonly performed healthcare procedures in North America.

Although no medical procedure is perfect, the excimer laser allows for an unparalleled degree of precision and predictability. Each pulse of the laser can remove 39-millionths of an inch of tissue in 12-billionths of a second. This enables an experienced surgeon to achieve remarkable accuracy while maintaining excellent control throughout the procedure.
However, the LASIK procedure requires a great deal of technical skill and training to perform properly, so choosing the proper surgeon is critical. The TLC network of surgeons has performed more than twice as many laser vision correction procedures than any other doctor network. Our Medical Directors performed the first LASIK procedures in the U.S. and Canada, and have shared their knowledge and experience with our entire network of doctors. So, regardless of what TLC center you choose, you will receive thorough care and have access to experienced, highly trained doctor

Fez as long as you are 18 or over, you are eligible.

This is from the Diamondvision website.

Am I a candidate for laser vision correction?

Only a complete examination performed by a physician can determine if you are a candidate for laser vision correction. Laser vision correction is usually not recommended if:

you are less than 18 years old
your prescription has changed in the last 6 months
you are pregnant
you are immuno-suppressed or take certain medicines

Thanks TW, but what my doc told me was that with my condition, it wouldn't be safe to play with it since the body doesn't stop developing until 25 (sometimes 30)

Hey Gonzo, can I get some Haagen Dazs Dulce de Leche please? :)

Fez, keep doing some research. I have been looking at this for a while, and I am choosing to wait. I just have my doubts about the long term effects.

Same here. It's tempting but who knows if there will be long term effects. My eye doctor said they put a considerable amount of pressure on the eye during the procedure. He said that could cause problems down the road.
