You actually got Verizon DSL service to work? I gave up on those fucks months ago and got a cable modem. It's probably just either the site you are visiting is being hammered by visitors, or Verizon is giving you bad service. I think it's the later of the two.

Thanks, I'm taking that as a compliment. I wanted something that was unique, somehow tied in with the message board, and just a tad on the offensive side. When I saw it, I immediately thought of "Hanger-On". I think it may be from the movie "The Cell". If not, the psycho in that movie suspends himself just like the crazy dude in the pic.

Must be your configuration. I have had DSL service since last July, and have had few issues.

Try calling them at 800-567-6789 to have them check your system configuration and installation.

I know last night there were connectivity issues in Jersey, I could not get a connection.

HAH! Call them! Right, that'll get a
whole lot done. I've been waiting on these
fucks for months. They're so nice, they
call me every week to say the box with my
modem and crap will arive in only another
week or so. Give up while you still can: I have
to wait until the box arrives before I can cancel
my service.

Ok, everything that everyone has said in this thread has happened to me in the past week only. Cable service is still iffy in my area. Just the other day, I couldn't get online all day. IE just wouldn't work.

I'm still saved....

Typical phone call to Verizon:

1) Call toll free number.
2) Make your way through pointless IVRS system so you end up talking to the same person, no matter which buttons you press. (Approx 5 min)
3) Remain on hold for 1-2 hrs while you wait to talk to someone who you know doesn't have the knowledge to handle your problem. (Approx 1.5 Hrs.)
4) "I have a script that Verzion gave me to help you with your problem Tool" finally answers phone. (Approx 10 min of "bullshit conversation)
5) Tool makes you go though pointless script that you FUCKING KNOW WILL NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. (Approx 30 min.)
6) Tool finally admits that you may need to speak to a "technical expert" (Ok, so what the FUCK are you suppose to be!?!?!?) which you knew you were going to need to do before you even picked up the damn phone.
7) Wait on hold for 2-3 Hrs. for Technical Expert. Enjoy listening to first 5 bars of Beethoven's 5th symphony over and fucking over again!(Approx 2.5 hrs.)
8) Talk to expert about how things have not been working now for 3-4 months, and that I am getting billed $$$$ every month for service they are not even providing! (Approx 20 min)
9) Expert gives you line of bullshit about how they are really understaffed, and that this is a problem all along the east coast, blah, blah, blah,... (Approx 15 min)
10) After about 1 hr of fruitless talking, problem still isn't solved, but you are now listed in the never ending database list of people who can't get their service to work. Your dabase entry issue will probably be looked at again in a few months, or whenever they feel like it. (Approx 45 min)
11) Hang up phone, and make a list of the people at Verizon that need to be anally raped with a glass encrusted baseball bat (Approx 10 min)

Total wasted time = 8 Hrs, 15 min

Total time for Cable modem to be installed and working flawlessly = 10 min.

This might help...

I'm using verizon DSL now...(no cable modem service near me yet :()...and I had problems with the service at first. I turned out to be my fault tho. I had this old phone in my basement that I had forgotten about cuz it never got used, and I didn't put a signal filter on it. I was getting like 2 or 3 times the bandwith of 56k and I had alot of lockups, slowdowns etc., but as soon as I slapped a filter on that phone I was getting 11 times the bandwith of 56k...consistently...and over the past few months the service has gone out only once for a few hours.

So if you didn't put the filters on ALL your non-dsl lines that might be your problem.

If you did...this is useless and I am a tool...plz proceed to tell me so...;)

I thought it was kinda funny with the whole "Hanger-On" reference. Your the second one to be "disturbed" by it. At least I didn't use pics of genital warts (Sorry if that made you start to dry heave) I'll change it when I reach Psychopath status. Only 81 more posts to go...

don't bother with tech support...here's your solution to the IE hang

right click network neighborhood
click on the tcp/ip that is bound to your ethernet card, then select its properties.
on the very first screen you will that you selected to obtain IP automatically.
There you want to click on specify the ip address
enter 10.255.255.10 for the IP and 255.255.255.0 for the subnet.
Click OK or apply or whatever then click OK again.
Reboot
All should be well in the hell that is Verizon DSL

O.K. People, I work for "Horizon". ( This is what all the ignorant people call it when they call in to speak to me, I also hear extremely assanine comments such as "you were better when you were Bell Atlantic".....we never changed we just merged with those assholes down south at GTE. )

Heres the scoop, when it comes to DSL you are (90%) of the time speaking to some asshole from Ohio who has no idea what the fuck they are talking about. I work on the end where you call for regular services or when there is a problem with your bill etc. , A good percentage of us ( in my office anyway ) however have a pretty good understanding of DSL, ISDN, T1, shit like that.

You have no idea how bad I feel for customers that call in and need help with thier DSL and I CANT help them because I'm not permitted to , I then have to transfer them to some toothless clueless jackass down south somewhere, and be left on hold, and hung up on 5 or 6 times until they decide they want to take your call and then transfer you beacause "Jethro" is from billing and you need tech support which is what I thought I had in the first place ( BTW thier VRU is the fucking worst).

I hate the fact that I work for a fucking company that has SO many employees that dont take thier job seriously, and fuck around. These are topics brought up daily, but working for a corporate giant means that it doesnt matter what they hear from employees, if it takes 20 years to get it right they dont care. I make good money and I'm not going to lie: My job is fucking HARD, and its ten thousand times harder when you are trying to help someone and you can only get as far as the department you need help from is fucking around and saying they cant help you.

I can sympathize with you guys because I dont even have DSL, but I get caught up in thier shit daily. I have a cable modem, I got it when they were first available, and havent looked back since.

Yeah you get a free modem and a web-cam, but is it really worth dealing with someone who doesnt even know what the "script" they are reading means? I think not, all I'm trying to say really is a good percentage of the time you are speaking to someone like me who takes thier job seriously and wants to help, but we have to follow procedure and go by the rule book or get canned. So its not "all" of Verizon, its just little sub-divisions of non-union brainless dipshits that dont do thier job well, or dont do it at all.

Ok Im done ranting, Just wanted you guys to know a tiny bit of what goes on inside that corporate sponsored circus hell hole.

Oh and Das...that thing about being understaffed is true, they will fire hundreds and hundreds of people, and then overwork all the mother fuckers that are left. Thats not an excuse but once again thats what happens with a big butt-raping corporation. :)

When I tried to get DSL, I was one of three people on Staten Island that wanted it at the time. The guy that came to hook up the DSL line said he was a contractor and wasn't a Bell Atlantic (at the time) employee. This makes me think the phone company didn't even have the man power to launch DSL at the time. The really ironic thing was, I got my DSL connection to work just long enough to create an account and give them my credit card number, and then it dumped on me. For the 10 min that it worked, it was pretty nice compared to my 33.6 connection at the time, but I got really pissed when I would get a $50 bill each month for getting raped by the phone company.

Verizon sucks ass! Once their monopoly is broken up, it could be Ed's Telephone Service or whatever, but Verizon will go the way of the do-do.

I have never had a good experience with Verizon.

Das Doompa, FYI: Your sig pic comes from something based on a Hindu ritual practice. The hooks are not barbed and the person's weight is distributed evenly so they do not tear. It is a very extreme form of meditation said to enduce an out-of-body type experience. There are several web sites that explain it in detail.

Thanks for that trivia. I remember them saying something about out of body experiences in the movie The Cell. The killer used it to reduce the effect of his mental illness. If I remember correctly, he suffered from some form of seizures.

Aarghh... cable modem service won't be available in the Bronx until supposedly begining of 2002 (but then again, they said April back in January so I'm not holding my breath) Regardless, DSL just doesn't seem worth it. As for Das Dooper's sig, it's not any worse than a pic of Mendi.

And since it is my 13th post, I guess I'll do something Evil... so if you thought that sig was bad, I dare you to click this, no really go ahead, I double-dog-dare you. And to answer future questions: yes, they do it on purpose. You can read about why here.
