Another excellent job by Tim Burton. Although there are a few plot holes, the film is one of his typically dark and beautiful works. The ape costumes are well done, the chase and battle sequences are excellent, and the Lincon Monument ending is almost worthy of the orignal. And the Charlton Heston cameo is a nice touch. What did the rest of you think?

Two openings available at Mr. Brownstone Academy of Dance .

no, but when wahlberg complains about his treatment by the apes, the kid tells him that he is not interested in hearing his personal problems and that he picked the wrong planet to share his personal life.

This is odd, a movie that was actually worth the $10 I just paid. The make-up and special effects were awesome. Saw a few errors in the movie but nothing big. Great scene by Heston with the “Dam them... Dam them” quote. I sat there and laughed for the next two minutes thinking of Ant doing that impression.

Overall, go see it. One suggestion don’t think its a remake of the original, its an entire different movie with the same idea.

I really liked it also.I thought the plot wasn't that bad.I went into it thinking the story was gonna suck. The effects were great.Tim Roth stole the movie. My opinion he should be up for a Academy Award for best supporting actor.I really liked the ending too.I dont think too many saw that coming.I did once he landed in washington infront of Lincoln. The best movie of the summer hands down!!!!

Just got back from seeing it. As always , My "mentor"...Tim Burton did a fucking great job, between the visual stimulation and Tim Roths performance it was a worth the $$$. Of course you knew there wasnt going to be a "happy Ending", and the wave of: "Wha...?" going through the audiance with the monument scene was priceless. I expected it, but I guess allot of people in the crowd didnt. Good movie..."me likey".

Damn you all to hell you culturaless ingrates!! None of you realize that that ending was (essentially) the book ending? In the book Taylor, Nova and their child (they have a child) use the transport and get back to earth where they are greated by a General Gorilla. This ending though was REALLY Twilight Zoney (more so than the original), nothing wrong with that as Serling was responsible for the original.

As for the movie? I thought it was pretty good. A bit cheesy hearing Heston-Ape saying the line but cool enough. Amazing effects, visually stunning, script and plot-eh. Roth was amazing, Giametti was funny and likable but Roth was amazing. He stole the movioe, he was fantastic. He won't be nominated for shit (maybe a Saturn award) but that was one of the best supporting performances I've seen so far this year.

My biggest complain is that they built up the appearance of Pericles too much. Who didn't think that the arriving ship would be Pericles? I also think that marketing screwed up by letting us see the Apes too soon before the movie opened.

Out of interest who would you like to see play the lead since Whalberg was pretty miscast. I honestly think Johnny Depp would have done a much better job (using Depp since he and Burton have worked a lot before), and not for the obvious "We can't stop here- this is Ape Country" joke. I think he could have pulled it off far better.

Trailers- Shallow Hal looks like it might be pretty funny. I'm happy they decided to use Jack Black to lead instead of Ben Stiller. The Count of Montre Cristo tagline (Count on Revenge) is demeaning and The One got more laughs than I think they intended.

All in all it's worth the price but the original is better. 3 out of 5 stars.

Another movie that my better half wanted to see...I went into the movie thinking "Oh great another movie he picked"...After watching the whole thing I have to admit it was excellent! I loved the movie and thought it was Academy Award worthy :)

I needed some escapism last night. So I went to see this movie. I got escapism.

Great costumes, nice f/x, but the story? The story sucked dead donkey dick.

And Wahlberg is a stiff.

But, hey, I don't regret seeing it.

Anyone have any ideas on how the sequel is going to explain why Earth in the 20th Century is run by a bunch of stinking Apes?!!?!? IkeaBoy, comment?

Sure Roger. If youlook at the computer screen when Whalberg is zapped back to Earth, he actually goes forward into the future again arriving in like 2700 or something but he is definitely farther in the future when he comes back to earth

Ikea, are you sure about that? I could have sworn I saw the number going back down toward 2029.

In any case, there are many possible scenarios for the sequel, and why 20th century Earth now has apes in control. An alternate reality, for example. If the storm Wahlberg went through disupts the time continuum, it could also disrupt natural space and allow access to parallel universes. Just a theory. :)

I thought I saw it going up but the alternate reality scenerio was another one I was thinking of when I saw it. And it's a really easy way to explain anything.

Ok...Think "Back To The Future 2" Marty comes back to 1985 from 2015 only it ain't quite the same as he left it.Biff stole the time machine and changed history by going back to 1955 and giving himself the sports score book. So, by the time Marty gets back to 1985 it has already been changed by biffs actions.(Take a minute to laugh at me for knowing this...no,go ahead, laugh at me!)
OK,Now use this same gimmick for the end of POTA.Some how Thade got out of the little glass room and recovered Mark W. space pod from the puddle of water that he crashed into.Using the still working computers on the large crashed ship he figures out how to fix and fly this thing and gets to earth some time before Mark W. get's busted at the Ape-rahm Lincoln monument.I can't be sure if he leads a rebellion of genetically modified apes of the early 21st century or if he goes back further and, using that handy gun he had and info from the ship, some how puts apes in charge before humans have any type of weapons that could compete with Thades gun.(Think Evil Dead 3-Army of Darkness,Ash: "This is my BOOOM Stick!").I believe the gun that Chuck "Damn you all to hell" Heston gives his son Thade is the same gun Thade has at the end of the movie and Thade might be his own great..great..great..blaa,blaa grandfather who started telling the story of the humans to the younger generations.Chew on that a while..Any more theories would be great.Any way you slice it I see SEQUEL....Bastards.

Interesting theory (in a way it's also similar of the original POTA timeline as Cornelius and Zira got sent back in time in the original craft and their child sparked the monkey revolution) but I thought the Whalberg original space craft was pretty much destroyed and remember Apes fear water so I doubt he could have convinced humans to take it out for him.

As for sequel- I remember reading when Whalberg originally signed to do this he signed for two (TWO!!) PotA movies including the one that came out Friday so a sequel is pretty much definite.

I guess I misread since everyone seems to agree that he did come back to 2029, and I even tried to make sure I concentrated on the year reading.

i really liked the movie, i thought the ending really was lame though. That Tim Burton really is a douche bag. He ruined Hollow Man, and almost ruined this movie. I'll bet there is a sequel, but i dont think they set up the sequel very well.

Ant, my theory is a little different. The beginning of the movie started out at 2034 or something. When went through the electrical storm he went to 2234 or something.

At the end of the movie if you notice the calendar again, it goes to 2434 or something. Mark W thought that he could go back through the electrical storm to go back in time, however he actually progressed 200 years, landing on what he thought was earth but it was actually the same planet he came from.

The 200 years of history was the same as earths so the planet looked the same.
