Alot of people were talking about this in another thread but I feel it deserves its own. Here is all I could find on it.

The Goonies 2

Release Date: Unknown; that will depend when (if) production starts on it; if Donner's recent quote holds up, it could be filmed in time for a 2002/2003 release.

Video Release Note: (7/25/01) Something that hasn't been confirmed about this project is whether it will definitely get a theatrical release, or if it will go to video, like many sequels do (both Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and The Lion King more than doubled The Goonies' box office, and their sequels went to video).

MPAA Rating: The original film was rated PG. The script pages online at TheGoonies.com have swear words, so it's possible this sequel could be PG-13 (I doubt it would get an R though).

Distributor: Although they have yet to announce it officially, presumably Warner Bros. would handle this like the original. Should this project indeed be direct-to-cable, one of HBO's channels (like HBO Family?) would likely host the premiere.

Producer: Richard Donner, who directed the original; his credits as producer include the Lethal Weapon series (and many other films he directed), but it also includes TV/video projects like Two-Fisted Tales, Made Men, and W.E.I.R.D. World. It's unknown to what extent Amblin Entertainment will be involved.

Buy it at AllPosters.com
Cast: Sean Astin (Michael "Mikey" Walsh), Josh Brolin (Brandon "Brand" Walsh), Jeff Cohen (Lawrence "Chunk" Cohen), Corey Feldman (Clark "Mouth" Devereaux), Kerri Green (Andrea "Andy" Carmichael), Martha Plimpton (Stefanie "Stef" Steinbrenner), Jonathan Ke Quan (Richard "Data" Wang); other cast not announced yet. It's likely Joe Pantoliano and Robert Davi would return as Francis and Jake Fratelli. The performers who played Mama Fratelli (Anne Ramsey) and "Sloth" Fratelli (John Matuszak) are both dead.

Cast Note: Out of Corey Feldman's last 18 feature-length projects, only Bordello of Blood in 1996 made it to theaters in the USA, with the other 17 going direct to video or cable. So, if this project gets a theatrical release, it will have a distinction.

Director: Not announced yet. The clue that Richard Donner is unlikely to direct is that the target production start date of "six months to a year" from now (as of 7/20/01) puts it in direct competition with Timeline, Donner's next big project, which starts filming in eight months.

Screenwriters: Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci (feature debuts; they're also working on The 28th Amendment for Richard Donner)

Based upon: This is the sequel to the 1985 kids movie that grossed $61.4 million in the U.S. (that was enough to land it at the #9 spot for the year, between The Jewel of the Nile at #8 and Spies Like Us at #10). The DVD special edition will be released in the fall of 2001.

Premise: A new mystery arises, so Mikey (Astin) rounds up the old crew again, who are all now in their 20's, and they're off for another Goonies adventure...

Filming: Richard Donner recently (7/20/01) told the Associated Press that, depending upon the script, production could start within six months to a year (ie, sometime in early/mid 2002), but that depends upon the script (so it could easily take much longer).

Genres: Action, Sequel

Unofficial Original Film Fan Site: TheGoonies.com (appears to be designed to be viewed using Microsoft Internet Explorer; one of the features the site sports is the first 18 pages of one of the recent script drafts)

Anyone else surprised that of everyone in the cast Joe Pantoliano ended up being the most successful?

The narrator in Fight Club is the man we will be, Patrick Bateman in American Psycho is
the man we want to be
Eliza Dushku- Hotter Than
Britney

I think Sean Astin is also the most successful too because he's been in a lot of movies, plus he's in the lord of the rings. Short Round/ Data does martial arts choreography for movies now. I think he did it for X-men and some others. Cory Feldman is another successful one..haha!

Have to stick with Joey P. as most successful. Matrix, Memento, Sopranos- he's definitely more successful than Astin (of course his turn as Sam in LotR might change things).

The narrator in Fight Club is the man we will be, Patrick Bateman in American Psycho is
the man we want to be
Eliza Dushku- Hotter Than
Britney

Why not... I know.

Actually there is a first Goonies video game. I don't think it ever came out in the states, though. Quite a bit more primitive than Goonies II. I've got a ROM of it for my NES emulator.

Corey Feldman was also in one of the Meatballs, like 4 or 5. plus he was the voice of Donatello in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Including being in every Corey Haim movie too! That's one successful actor! haha
