| O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Well I don't know if you were directing your comments at me as well as IkeaBoy, but I was more making a point about Bill Maher than agreeing with his statemement. However, you saying that whoever Kills is scum is false. Policeman Kill, FBI Agents Kill, the Government Kills. Are they all scum? Granted, Hitmen kill illegally, and some just might be scum, but some are just doing their job and wouldn't hurt a fly otherwise, much like the police and the government does, just with a different set of morals. People who get involved in the mob know the risks, and know that it can mean death. If they are not prepared for this, they should not get involved in the first place. Just like criminals, if you can't handle the consequences, don't do the deed. I can see your side of the argument, however, thinking that if someone's opinion differs from yours is scum is rather narrow-minded. | ||||

| O&A Board Veteran Registered: Sep. 00 | A person's job isn't who they are. A person can kill, a person can steal. All those things are illegal. Just becaue a person kills doesn't mean he doesn't like his friends or love his family. It might mean that he's overcome a guilt/morals that many of us DO have and uses that to his financial advantage. He could be a perfectly nice guy that you wouldn't guess he's a hitman- that's why he might be successful as a hitman. First of all, I think you know that I wasn't talking about cops, soldiers, etc. doing their legitimate jobs. They are not scum. I used the word murder; that has a specific definition. "Doing their job" is in no way a defense. Neither is "a different set of morals." That set of morals makes them bad people. You say that b/c they murder people doesn't mean they don't love their family and friends, but loving your family and friends in no way proves that you are nice. Also, you must remember, a good number of people killed by the mafia do not get involved with them voluntarily. So do you differentiate between them and those who do so willingly? What about people who don't really want to but feel they have no choice? As far as differing opinions, I welcome them all. I think that everyone here should be able to express themselves in any way they choose that does not infringe on someone else's physical or material well-being. I do not think someone might be scum because they don't agree with me, I think that they might be scum specifically because they think it's ok to go around murdering people. It comes down to this. If you're a hitman, you choose to make your living by taking the lives of other people and supporting criminal activities. By being able to conciously make that choice, you are not a good person. It's that simple: making that choice = not good. You are a bad person. You can tuck your kid into bed, kiss your wife when you get home every night, put your mom in the nicest medical care, and give money to Jerry's kids. You are still an evil fucker. And I think I would literally be frightened to be around someone with such a low value of human life that they're fine with the execution of someone who didn't pay the vig on their Super Bowl bet.
