I've been reading around consolegamingworld and getting copies and rips of ps2 games is a reality. CD games are easy with a Gameshark 2 and a mod chip. DVD's are a bit trickier but there are rips for games like GTA3 that are DVDs so you can have it compressed onto a cd. Of course you could copy it to a blank DVD but that costs $$$. I want to know if anyone from the board has tried this stuff and what their experiences were.

Damn the distances we travel to not pay for software.

I see that Gaming Forum is where you spread your commie propoganda. First its pirating video games, soon enough you'll be preaching about 5-year plans. I'm onto you.

I've never tried or gotten a rip of a PS2 game (since I don't own a console - yet), but at local comp shows I always see tables that have loads of Copied games for PS2 - usually going for $5 a piece (and you can haggle with the people down to $2/game if you buy a handfull). I realize this still requires you to shell out some $$, but it might be easier than doing the rip process yourself if you're that inclined to avoid shelling out retail for games (much like myself).

It's not pirating - its owning fully functional complete backups of said software, much like the diclaimer label says on each game disk LOL - like owning a hot box for testing purposes...;)

The comp show suggestion was pretty good. BTW do you know of a good site that lists upcoming computer shows?

The main one I make a point to go to whenever its around is held in the NJ Convention Center (used to be the Raritan Center Expo Hall). If you've ever been there, you know how huge it is - too many tables to count, and more tables = more gooder for haggling purposes. The Web Site is here , but its for the show promoters - not the Expo hall. Directions to all of the shows are also linked on the page. Also if you have any small halls or VFW places near you, smaller shows are regularly held in these places but not widely advertised, so if you manage to find out about one, go, and you should be able to fill out a post card with your email address and they'll send you updates as to when the next show is going to be held. The link is for one producer, I don't know of any other sites that list other producers though.

One other thing - the Ripped PS2 games are usually on tables in DVD cases (Im not sure if PS2 games come in a standard DVD case, I think they're a little different), but you can easily tell its a ripped game by the price and by the bad copy or print job thats used on the cases (like a bad knock-off DVD movie).

One last thing - again, I don't have a console yet, so I never really took particular notice of all of the games there, but I do believe newer games would go for more than $5 - figure $14-$15, but as I said, if you buy like 3 or 4, and you haggle a bit, you're bound to get a good deal on at least 1 or 2 games.

AM, what kind of mod chip are you looking at and from where?

I was looking for one a while back (started a thread), but the only ones I could find needed to be soddered to the board and there was a risk of the DVD function not working anymore. The only plug-in one I could find only worked with the ORIGINAL release of PS2 and another one that plugged into the USB port, but still needed one wire to be soddered.

Are there any plug-in mod chips available that don't require ANY soddering?

Thanks for the site. I have a show hall at FDU which is real close but I don't feel like waiting for a show to come.

And AD I'm thinking about getting the Neo 2.2 mod chip. It's about 30 and I got some sodering experience to it shouldn't be a problem for me. The USB one is known for you to add patches to games sometimes to make it work. I think both also need a Gameshark 2. But a GS2 is pretty cool to get anyway.

I'm not sure about non-wired mods check around at this site and you will be bound to find an answer.

Ok, we know where to get the mod chips. Where do we burn the games?

I've got the no solder R mod installed on my V5
PS2. So far it works with all DVDR backups with the execption of MAX Payne which I cant get to run for some reason. But SSX Tricky, 007, Devil May Cry, MGS2 DVDR all work perfectly. If you want to play DVD rips on CDR, you cant play games over 630 mb, but I think rips suck anyway which is why I just buy DVDR. I don't burn my own, but I buy my copies on DVDR for $10 each. Still beats paying $50 per game :) ! If you want more info feel free to email me at jdrancid@yahoo.com
Hope this helps.
