Xbox Delay
While Microsoft execs claim that it's nothing but untrue rumors, we've heard from several different sources (CEO's at companies making Xbox games) that Xbox won't likely make it out until March 2002. It's believed that Microsoft could make December 2001 at the earliest, but that would only be possible if it rushed the launch and compromised the quality of the launch line-up. If Xbox misses 2001 and GameCube makes it out this year, you can consider the Xbox dead on arrival.

Well if anyone is buying X-Box for its DVD function check this out.

quote:

Will the Xbox play DVDs right out of the box?

In what seems like another move to cut costs of the initial price of the system, you won't be able to play DVDs right of the box. Instead, you'll have to purchase a "remote control" kit that will basically include a piece of hardware or software and a remote control that will allow you to play normal DVDs on your system. Most likely this is to avoid having to pay the somewhat pricey DVD licensing fees on every system that ships to stores. The price of the license will be included in the remote control pack, which will most likely cost in the $20-30 range.

So after spending 300-500 bucks on the console you then gotta go out and buy a specila remote to play DVD's on.Good thing Sony didnt do that> :)WEll they did make you go out and buy a remote but you had the choice to or not.

But with the Xbox a hard drive, 4 controller ports, and internet capabilities are included when you buy it.......which are things you don't get with the PS2.:-)

So lets say the console goes for 400 dollars. You still need to buy the memory card. The hard drive is'nt for saving games. It's for downloads and updates/patches etc. Then if you want to play DVD's you then go and buy the DVD remote contol for 30 dollars.I dont think its coming with 4 controllers so if you want them you need to buy them also.Thats another 100.So i say you'd spend around 600 without buying any games. And people complain about PS2 being 300 dollars.

the more i think about it, console systems are a gamble. Just stick to pc games, there more fun, if you have a good system, the games rock.

Actually i think the system will be selling for $300 and you can save games to the hard drive.

PS2: console + games + multitap + 3 more controllers + hard drive + modem

Xbox: console + games + 3 controllers + DVD thing.
What I like is how Microsoft includes things instead of making you buy them as add ons.
Just to clarify what the hard drive is good for, here are the advantages: Visit this Website

So...explain to me how an Xbox is any different than the PC in your home? It plays games, has a hard drive, acess to the internet...hmm. Gee, I already have a computer, why do I want an Xbox?

A lot of people that own a PC don't have the speed and/or graphics to keep up with the ever changing and advancing game market. With the Xbox they will have original games and no annoying updates for compadibility problems. And its also a gaming machine directed for only playing games and DVDs, and not for all the stuff PCs are used for. When the hard drive and modem come out for the PS2 are you going say, "Well fuck it, its out so I'm throwing my PS2 away." I doubt it!
Go to xbox.com or any other sites and they will tell you why also.

How much is the Xbox going to cost?

The latest word from Microsoft is that you'll have to pay a bit more for the extra features, but they still haven't released a price for the thing. It looks like the system may be anywhere from $300 to a whopping $500, if you believe the retail chain Babbage's current listing in its computer system.

What is this hard drive going to be used for?

Microsoft has announced that there will be an 8MB memory card, which leads most people to believe that it won't likely be used simply for storing games

On dailyradar.com they said you could save your games to the hard drive, which led me to believe that the memory card was in case you wanted to transport your files to a friends house or something. As fo rthe Xbox costing up to 500 simoleans, I would assume Microsoft would realize that no one would buy the system if the price tag was that high. But if it does come out to be $500, then fuck the system and fuck Microsoft.

Just a couple notes on X-box:

- It will be delivered on time. Production is gearing up to begin we have had the graphic chips for a month now and this is the heart of the counsel. now that this has been completed the final parts of the system are all falling into place for mass production.

Pat cooper - Xbox will be no more then $300 and will open in the same price range of PS2

Did you know ? how long does PS2 take to boot doesn't that annoy you? well Xbox boots up in 1 second how cool is that!

Believe me when I tell you that the game consel well deliver on what is says and once you see it in action you will see why.

Just Jon - All games in early production including PS2 Game cube all release "modified" scree shoots not just Xbox

If you are going to be in the Seattle area come to campus and try Xbox for yourself here is more info if you are interested. http://www.microsoft.com/playtest/

x-box is the better system its much easier to develpo for because it uses direct x which all of us know

unlike the ps2 which uses its own programming language which from what i heard is harder to develop for than the saturn and everyone remebers how hard that was to develp

that and microsoft is going to spend 500 million on advertisement
which basically means they can give away the first 2 million x-box if priced at 300 for free

now to price ms isnt stupid they keep saying competive price which means between 200 and 300 with game cube prob at 150-250 and ps2 prob at 250-300
perphials x-box 4 controller ports ps2 2
xbox free hard drive and modem
ps2 makes u pay for hard drive and modem

gee it looks like x-box is the better system when u look at the price specs

dont even get me started on the nv2a graphics proccesor

this from dailyradar.com
quote:

Microsoft has decided to beef up its hard drive to 10GB from the previously announced 8GB, Daily Radar confirmed today.
"This is yet another example of added value to the Xbox customer," a company spokesperson said. "This is a spec change in a very positive direction."

The built-in drive will allow developers to issue patches and enhancements that gamers can use to upgrade games, and eliminates the need for memory cards to store saved games

even a btter reason as to why u should buy american buy xbox

so from what i have read, and seen previously, i am going to be spending about 400-650 on the two new game systems i plan on buying this year. I own a PS2, and think it is a bit slow, but the graphics are great, so i don't care. As for xbox being from america, if it kicks ass, i want it, if not leave it. i want game cube also, but just cause i am and always have been a nintendo kid...more systems mean more gooder!!
