| O&A Board Regular Registered: Jun. 01  | I love my games and identify with a lot of characters in the games I play. The greatest accomplishment a game can achieve and which I hope to form... is to envelop the player into the storyline and have them identify with, and actually have emotions for the characters in the story. This answer does not have to be necisarily RPG... it could be any genre, action, or sim. However, usually, characters are developed more in RPGS and therefore are more able to identify with. But whatever, I want your opinions as with my other topics. Lets start this off, shall we? Protagonists: 4. Zidane Tribal from Final Fantasy IX Zidane was a cool character to study, who was laid back and had good values. However, the reason for him being fouth on my list is that he does not change much throughout FF IX and is not a static character. "You don't need a reason to help somebody." - Zidane Tribal 3. Locke Cole from Final Fantasy VI Locke was another Thief like Zidane, yet his character was developed pretty thouroughly throughout the game. I personally identified his relationship with Rachel and Celes. Also, he was ffin admirable with his devotion towards Celes. "I won't let go... I promise." - Locke Cole 2. Raziel, Reaver of Souls from Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver Raziel is one of the greatest characters I've ever seen. He is strong, determined, and spouts some of the greatest lines along with voice acting I've ever seen. He is truely an amazing dark, gothic character who's thirst for vengeance against Kain is what creates a character who is unforgettable with his anger and personality. "Damn you Kain!! You are not God!" - Raziel, Reaver of Souls 1. Squall Leonheart A lot of people would dissagree with this one, but I'm a mirror image of Squall physically and mentally. He's really quiet and softspoken, but you see him change throughout the game into a very charismatic and admirable character. The relationship with Squall and Rinoa also kicks ass. "So let me come to you, Close as I want to be Close enough for me To feel your heart beating fast And stay there as I whisper How I love your peaceful eyes on me Did you ever know That I had mine on you?" -Faye Wong "Eyes on Me" Antagonists 3. Kuja from Final Fantasy IX Very good character development with Kuja who is portrayed as human in the end. Great character. "All your dreams... hopes... and life. I shall destroy. I shall destroy everything!! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!" 2. Kefka from Final Fantasy VI Very close to # 1... and was about to take the cake before I thought of a few things. Kefka was a purely evil character who was absolutely crazy and unpredictable in all his actions. He was purely an awesome villain with his insane laughter and enmity towards the word. "I care not for this little hamlet... so burn it!!' - Kefka 1. Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII I shouldn't even have to explain this one. He was just so bad ass and with his rivalry with Cloud was something that matched Squall and Seifer. With masamune in hand... Sephiroth is the undesputed king of bad ass. Especially the FMV of him walking through the flames of Neibelheim. "I am here mother. | O&A Board Regular Registered: Nov. 00 | kefka is a f00kin riot greatest guy ever he should be number 1 although my all time favorite guy is magus from chrono trigger cause he is both good and bad(more good than bad), he has the most dimensions of any other games ive played oh yea the sprite rules!!(secret of mana)

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Jun. 01 | Quotes, I do believe in my mind that Kefka is #1 antagonist... but I thought that Sephiroth was kinda more of the 'bad-ass' catagory... and... (Whispers) What if Sephiroth saw me putting him as number two? He'd kill me! =P No, I truthfully think that Kefka is definately more evil and is a little more developed than Seph by the end of the game. | O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Sephiroth is very much the Darth Maul or the FFs.. he has immediate appeal as a Bad Ass.. and reeks of sinister evil.. but as a character he is generally shallow and underdeveloped. Now Golbez from FFII.. a bad ass.. sinister.. DEVELOPED (his goals are clear.. his motivations are clearer.. and his resentment when freed from Zromos' influence flesh him out fully) and his actions in manipulating the heroes are truly devious. And unlike ALL the other MAJOR villains Golbez is the ONLY one never completely defeated by the protaganists..  No! I am NOT a Goth Dude!! "Good? Bad? I'm the guy with the gun!" | ||||

Between his daughter, his town, his rival, his rebel group and hatred for shinra. He could have been the main character of the story almost. Ant: Sephiroth kicks all other antagonists in the balls. | ||||

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Aug. 00 | whackbag, Link is definitely the best protagonist ever. also samus from metroid was pretty cool if you read the comic in nintendo power like i did. my number two would have to be mega man tho. and not that stupid dude from legends, i'm talkin the original ass kicking blue dude from nes, and maybe even megaman X from snes. for bad guys, i'd have to stick w/ the zelda series and go w/ gannon, as well as bowser and dr. wily. the guys just never f-in gave up!  darthziggy@opieanthony.com I'm off to Franklin Pierce College in September. She does well up against insurmountable odds, and is a great shot. Mind you, the whole world often doesn't depend on her actions, but still... 2. Conker, "Conker's Bad Fur Day" The whole world doesn't rest on his shoulders. Hell, he kills more people than he saves. But he is SO f*cking funny, I had to give him the silver. 1. Link, "Legend of Zelda" Flat-out kicks ass. Kicks ass on toast. Kicks so much ass he makes me use the word "ass". Antagonists: 3. Ganondorf, "Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" One bad mofo. 2. William Birkin, "Resident Evil 2" Hey, one deserves a place on the list when he injects himself with a mutagenic virus, kills his wife and infects his own daughter. And the number one bad-ass of all time: 1. CALYPSO, "Twisted Metal" You definitely deserve number one when you send so many people to their deaths in a bloody contest, only to ruin a contestant's life or end it by granting their wish and having it "backfire". "Oh, real nice, Cartman! He was your friend, you fat f*ck!" | ||||

| Psychopath Registered: Mar. 01 | How about the most pathetic antagonist: Liquid Snake. The biggest bumbling idiot I have ever seen. He was the superior twin, and had A FRICKIN NUCLEAR-EQUIPPED MECH and still couldn't defeat Solid Snake. Then, by chance, he survives, and is about to kill Solid Snake, and he just drops dead. PATHETIC! The eternal truth: Stephanie McMahon is best seen and NOT heard! | ||||

| Psychopath Registered: Oct. 00 | Protagonists 3. My Grand Master from FF#1 for being able to destroy the final boss with damage over 2000 hp after the knight was only able to ake away 179 hp. 2. Vyse from Skies of Arcadia just for bringing me back to RPG's even though he looked like a dork. 1. Rya Hyabusa #1 for being part of an old school classic, Ninja Gaiden, with a great storyline and still the best ending in my book. Antagonists 4. Shiva second to last boss in Streets of Rage 2. No storyline, no character development, no speech, but could sure kick ass. 3.Melfius from Grandia 2 for wiping me away with a single blow when I was clearly kicking his ass with my strongest move for 0hp's. 2. Sephiroth for permanently implanting his ending music into my head. 1. Ramirez from Skies of Arcadia for kicking my ass throughout the game even though I spent hours upon hours maxing out levels to be wiped away each time. But what fun would it be to defeat the final boss near the beginning of the game. Syndication to Tampa when Sick Boy is allowed back on the show. Bubba the Lovesponge Sucks!!!!! | ||||

I must say that I'm shocked that Fallen mentioned neither Cloud nor Cecil from the FF series.. While I myself would place Cecil above Squall.. I must admit they are very similar characters.. filled with self doubt, and through the course of both of their stories they learn to open up and trust both their friends and themselves...
