| O&A Board Veteran Registered: Sep. 00  | This summer brought us two video game "based" flicks and I'm re-playing the Leisure Suit Larry series and I'm wondering which games do you think would make a good movie. I think Leisure Suit Larry has a definmite possibility with someone like the cousin in Mad About You or Kevin Spacey as the star unless they want to go younger. | O&A Board Veteran Registered: Sep. 00 | Doesn't even have to be the first one (though I can see the first one probably being the best movie). They could combine all 6 do a new plot but incorporate scenes/jokes from the first 6. As long as they don't screw up and have him find a "True love" at the end like with "The Ladies Man." He can be married but still be looking. They could have a High Fidelity-esque way for his potential suitors. Could be a central location like Vegas or NY or have him travel and he has a definitive look (as I said the cousin on Mad About you or Kevin Spacey). The thing about Larry is that the games don't require fighting or jumping so they could translate really well to screen as long as they keep the character straight. Could have an 80s comedy mentality. Not many special effects would keep budget down and it really would make a fun movie. The story Has nothing to do with the game.Something about this super computer that turns scientests into zombies. Romeros script closely followed the games storyline.Man is it going to blow. | O&A Board Veteran Registered: Sep. 00 | That's exactly what I said when I found out about it AM. You have Romero, king of the zombies and they fire him from a zombie movie!! I also heard they are planning a remake of Dawn of the Dead (arguably the best zombie movie ever). As for Half Life, I also said that they should make a Half-Life movie and in many ways it really could work as long as they aren't afraid to go all out and make it rated R and not shy way from gore. It has more of a story than Doom and the right director could really make it a very paranoid creepy movie using just Freeman. | O&A Board Veteran Registered: Sep. 00 | The problem with VG movies is that they're not written/directed for the fans, they're written for mass appeal thus isolating the fans of the game and the people who weren't game fans don't care about the movie. Legend of Zelda, for example, could be an awesome movie. Easy enough plot, effects can be awesome, and it could work. The problem is it will be Mass-ized up leading to shit. On this topic, who would you like to see play Freeman in a Half-Life movie because that can most definitely work -- especially if they're more willing to use models than CGI. Say what you will models still give it a realer feel. Who doesn't think Jedi Jabba was better than Phantom Jabba?
