Just something I was thinking about....Do you think the reason they had Jeff Hardy "got hurt" last night on Smackdown was mostly JR's doing? Everytime I look in the Ross Report, it's not that he's criticizing Jeff, RVD and other high flyers, but he seems to be downplaying high risk maneuvers in favor of grapplers. He seems to be overconcerned about RVD or Jeff getting seriously hurt (which I don't think may not possible in the case of RVD, he's been hardcore his whole career)

Talking about Austin-Angle match (which I loved too BTW):
quote:

And they did it without hurricanranas and planchas and somersaults and all those things. Not to say that those moves aren't entertaining. But if the basis for any match is the acrobatic high-spots and those alone, you've probably got a very shallow story being told. Austin-Angle touched emotions and nerves -- it made you feel those two guys. Hopefully, our guys will learn from that and that will become more the norm than the exception to the rule. It will keep guys healthier and keep them out there entertaining the fans. We don't want them to go on their injured list and have their bodies break down in their mid-30s. If you look at a guy like Shawn Michaels, who, at his age, should still be able to compete. But due to injuries and the abuse he put his body through doing some of the most innovative aerial maneuvers ever seen in this country, it shortened his career. What we're trying to tell people now is, don't be lazy, work your ass off, give the people their money's worth without fail. But work smarter, tell better stories, get me emotionally involved in the story, and not that "ooh" and the "aah" because the guy just did a hurricanrana, or was driven through a table. The singular high-spot theory, I think, has got to be lessened. I may be too old-school with over 30 years in the business. I'm not trying to make the business as it was when I was a kid. But I do think that human nature is human nature. I think people are still creatures of habit.

Plus, how the hell can most "Superstars" keep up with the outstanding moves they do...can you imagine the Rock wrestling RVD, even selling RVD's frog splash? I don't think that's gonna happen.

The luchador style is my personal favorite, I don't want it to be slowly fazed out, or barely ever used...especially with talent on their roster like Tajiri, RVD, Jericho, Essa Rios, Taka, etc.

I can look at each side and think they should meet somewhere in the middle. Don't get me wrong I love to see all the arial moves from RVD, Hardies, and some of the others that push it to the extreme. It is what brought me back to wrestling. It just seem that as I was watching the match between Jeff, and RVD on Sackdown, I was thinking that someone is bound to get hurt if they keep pushing it to that next level, and not less then 2 minutes had that thought passed through my head, and they were helping Jeff to the back. I think they need to understand that there are some moves that can only be done with special effects in the movies. Or if they are giong to go all out it should be saved for PPV, and not try and out do your self every night. It easy enough to get hurt doing some of the other stuff without pushing that far..

I read that Ross report, and he makes a good argument for "less-risky" wrestling. The problem is that 'risky" wrestling is what most of the fans want to see. I personally enjoy an old-school technical match just as much as I do a high-flying match. But WWF Inc. is more concerned about the bottom-dollar line, and if high-flying is what gets the fans to pach the arenas, thats what they'll do. Its not like're doing ECW stuff with fire and barbed wire (not all the time anyway). I say if the wrestler feels he can pull of the move and trains enough to do it, let him. If it should mess him up at some point, then he knew the physical risk involved. I'm not trying to sound like a hardass, it just makes more sense to me that way.

The more dangerous a match is the more fans are wanna see this. ECW did that and the WWF copied and this whats happen. The guys in ECW did a lot more hardcore training then Jeff, look at the diffence now.
Jeff looked pretty f'd up on smackdown and Rvd did a five star frog splash on a ladder and he was fine.....I guess Vince has gotta learn that theres some things his guys cant do as well as ECW guys can. He proberly pushed Jeff more cos fans seem to be turning to RVD all the time.

A good ol' school wrestling is great as well I mean Malenko and Guerreo had some hell of matches as well as Dreamer and Raven. But that be a crime against the wrestling world if they slowly take out the high flying shit, I mean.. shit what will Nova do since his moves have being stolen.

yeah jr might downplay the high-risk stars, but thats just his style.i mean is that jr is old school.he rather see a match like angle-austin,which by the way was a great match at summerslam.i think we just wants to tell everyone that the risks of that style are high. look at shawn michaels.that style of wrestling made him retire early.i think jeff hardy has calmed down a bit, with the risks he takes.i think rvd can have a good match with anyone hardcore or risking taking style or not.actually i would love to see rvd and the rock have a match.that would be interesting to see what they could do.

I don't think that was the case. I think it was just a day for Jeff to be injured. He has perfomed that same move many times. They even showed a clip of it on excess where he did the move successfully. Athelets occassionally get injured performing a routine they normally do. Heck, many people get injured walking... eventhough they walk every day.
