i read in a newspaper this week about Linda Mcmahon signing a deal with football (soccer to you americans) club Manchester United so that Manchester United can tour USA in 2003 and WWF can tour england in 2003 (yay for me). and also so Manchester united can sell their merchandise at WWf events and vice versa. does anyone know anything about this? the paper has been thrown out so i dont know the whole story but it was in the business/money section and there was a picture of Linda Mchmahon and i think an action shot of the rock rock-bottoming someone. I don't know what it would actually mean but I don't see how it can work because I didn't think soccer was very popular in USA (i might be wrong??) and if the WWF came to england on a tour, would RAW and smackdown etc. have to be filmed in england?

Could be true.
I read some where a couple of months ago that NY yankees is signing the same type deal with Manchester U.( or maybe its another top soccer club in England). This will allow the NY Yankee to sell there products in the UK and Like wise Man. U in the US. It's a sound business decission.

Yeah it might seem like a sound business decision...for the WWF. Cus there are a lot of WWF fans in England that are usually deprived of merchandise and stuff like that. But How many Man United fans are there in The US? I haven't seen any reference to them on any occasion I've been in the states. Same goes for the Ny Yankees, except it's bad for both sides. The Yankees have no fans here and Man U have no fans there.

Elementary my dear Watson,
Business needs to keep expanding to keep stock value rising in this day and age of the economy. Now the yankees see this as a chance to tap into a brand new market. Thus, leading MLB along with it.

Now the same may be for this Soccer team of yours. Soccer is developing a fan base in the US. I even sat and watched a little one Sunday afternoon with nothing else to do myself. I will admit it may be the highest action sport.

I for One Am. And so are about six of my friends. Surely the seven of us does not make a market, however I am sure there are thousands if not hundred of thousands more. Keep in mind that there are millions of Soccer loving Europeans, Latin/Southern Amerericans and Africans in the US. DO thery all love MAn. U.? Who knows?.
Also the deal might bring Man United to play exibition games here in the US. And just in case you didn't know, Soccer popularity in the US is exploding. To know all you have to do is drive by some parks and all you see is Soccer.

Trust me these companies wount just sign million dollar deals if it does not benefit them.... But then again...

Well erm they're technically the best team in the world but I don't know that you'd be able to tell that. Women's soccer is doing good business in the US or so I hear. They nearly won the last world cup.
