Vince McMahon fires back on Bret Hart:

The Slam Wrestling site in Canada has excepts up of a Toronto Sun interview with Vince McMahon where he talks about his relationship with Bret Hart. In it, they mention that Hart was offered a spot at Mania, news that Bret himself broke in his Calgary Sun column a few weeks ago. About Bret, Vince said, "One of the public things that my character (Mr. McMahon) says is that I always do everything I do for WWF fans. The reality of it is, that is the case. Despite the way I would feel personally about someone, if it's the right business thing to do, I'll do it for our audience. So, I went through the right diplomatic channels to invite Bret and, quite frankly, I thought it was on a confidential basis and agreed that it would be. Unfortunately, I, like a few other people, read his diatribe in The Calgary Sun."

Vince said that he thought it would be great for WWF and Canadian fans to see Bret come back to the WWF. He thinks it's "unfortunate" that Hart won't be returning.

The reason that Hart said he was considering a WWF return, despite Vince "screwing him" by taking the WWF Title from him and giving it to Shawn Michaels at Survivor Series 1997 after agreeing not to do so that night, was that he wanted to gain access to photos and videos of his work as Bret "The Hitman" Hart from his WWF days. The Sun article asked McMahon about that claim and, after getting a little ticked and calling Bret a "crybaby" who he thinks needs "psychological help", Vince said, "I'm trying to do the right thing business-wise and for our fans and then I read about some sort of (library) crap. I don't know of any performer that's worked for MGM or any other major studios who thinks he has, in some way, some right to ownership of films he's done. So, I don't know why Bret would think that he should have some right to ownership or right to usage of videotape, which is no different than any actor who performs in any sitcom or television show. Unless it's written in the contract, there is no ownership." He went on to say that Bret was "adequately paid and compensated" for his work, and thus his likeness, when he was with the WWF. He went on to say that he doesn't think most people care about Bret's feud with him any more.
