Dan's Note: The stage is the same old/new SmackDown set-up, so nothing really to report
here.

We open with Vince McMahon, owner of SmackDown!. He says that Ric Flair erroneously
stated that Undertaker could face Triple H at Backlash. Flair must have forgotten that the
Board of Directors also gave rights to declaring #1 Contender to whoever won the coin
toss. As winner of that coin toss, Vince will decide who faces Triple H, and he will make
that announcement later tonight. The pyro explodes, and we are LIVE from the first
SmackDown! of the new era. Michael Cole and Tazz welcome us to Rochester. We'll see
Kurt Angle take on Edge! But first...

Kurt Angle Interview
-"Medal" hits, and Angle comes out. He is officially stating that he is ready, willing, and
able to face Triple H at Backlash. Reason One: Angle has beaten Triple H more times
than anyone else in the company. Reason Two: He's an Olympic Gold Medalist. Reason
Three: He is adored and admired by both children and senior citizens worldwide,
especially the sick one. Reason Four... The Y2J Countdown hits 0.00, and out comes the
Ayatollah. Jericho gets right in Angle face and calls him a pompous jackass. There is no
way in hell that Angle deserves the Title shot. No one deserves it except for Jericho. He
was the first Undisputed Champion, and the only rematch he gets is one with Stephanie
McMahon, who by the way, was the one that got pinned, not him. And now, not only does
he not get a Title Shot, he has to come out in front off all these people who think he is a
has-been. He is not a has-been! And tonight, he will be the one to get that shot at Triple H
at Backlash, and there's nothing Angle can do about it. Angle doesn't like that. As far as
Jericho's quest for a Title Shot goes, it already "has been" completed. Oh, that's hilarious,
Jericho says. But if memory serves, the last time the two of them fought, Jericho beat
Angle. So who's the has-been now? They could go back and forth all night, but why not
get it on tonight, with the winner facing Triple H at Backlash. Angle says he's fine with
that. If ya smell.... The Rock comes out on his stage. Finally, The Rock has come back
to "Rockchester". Do these two actually think they're the only ones who should get a shot
at Triple H? Let The Rock remind them that there's one man who has had more matches
with Triple H than the two of them combined. One man who could electrify the crowd like
no other. Rock stops himself and thinks. Actually, there is someone else. One day, The
Rock will get a shot at the Undisputed Title, and he will whoop ass like he's never
whooped before. But until then, the man who deserves a Title shot maybe a little bit more
than The Rock, then we should give it to a legend, to an icon: Hulk Hogan. This is all new,
says The Rock. Although this is SmackDown, this is an all new SmackDown! This used
to be "The Rock's Show", but now and forever, it will be "The People's Show." And seeing
as these two jabronis are sitting on their thumbs in the ring, these people are going to let
them know who they want in the Main Event at Backlash. The crowd chants for Hogan. If
ya smell what the Rock is cookin! Fade Out.

Billy & Chuck vs. Scotty & Albert (Tag Titles)
-Earlier tonight, Scotty and Albert pump each other up because they've just been named
#1 Contenders for the Tag Titles. We come back to the ring, and Scotty and Albert are
waiting for their Title Shot. BIlly and Chuck come out, with Rico cheering them on. Scotty
and Chuck start off, with Chuck kneeing Scotty into the ropes and clubbing him down.
Scotty ducks a clothesline and hits Chuck with a neckbreaker 1-2-shoulder up. Tag to
Billy. Armdrag by Scotty, but Chuck clubs him in the back. Clothesline by Billy. Billy and
Chuck double stomp on Scotty, and Chuck tags in. Shoulder thrusts by Chuck.
Roundhouse punch, but Scotty starts firing back. Scotty floats over Chuck's back and
superkicks him. Both men go down. Tag to Albert and Billy. Powerslam to Billy 1-2-Chuck
hits Billy with an elbow drop. Albert tosses Chuck out of the ring and splashes Billy in the
corner. He tags in Scotty. Rico distracts Albert, allowing Chuck to clothesline him on the
outside. Scotty takes Billy down with a DDT, but the ref is watching Albert and Chuck.
Rico runs in and nails Scotty with a spinning heel kick. Billy pins 1-2-3! After the match,
Albert stares Rico down, but Scotty bulldogs him. He starts to set the Worm, but Albert
gives him an ax kick! Splash in the corner! Albert with knees to his partner. He chokes
Scotty on the ropes, then clubs him down. Albert picks Scotty up in a choke and gives
him the Baldo Bomb. Fade Out.

In the back, Mark Lloyd asks Vince about his decision. After figuring out who Mark Lloyd
is, Vince says that he has decided on who the #1 Contender is. This is all about
opportunity, and Vince does not succumb to public pressure. He could care less about
what the fans want, or what the Rock wants. He wants one young man to fufill his dream.
At Backlash, Triple H will take on... Hulk Hogan!

In the back, Jericho runs down Rock and yells at him for suggesting Hogan. Jericho lists
all the times he beat Rock, but Rock stops him and asks if he thinks he can beat him
tonight. Jericho says he can. Fade Out.

Christian vs. Diamond Dallas Page
-Page starts with a roundhouse punch, and then kicks Christian away before
clotheslineing him over the top. Christian guillotines DDP and then stomps away. He lays
Page on the ropes and knocks him off the apron to the barrier. On the outside, Christian
stomps on DDP. Back in the ring, Christian hits Page with a Russian legsweep
1-2-shoulder up. Christian locks in a sleeper. Page lifts his legs, trying to shove Christian
away, but Christian holds him there, pinning his shoulders 1-2-reversed 1-2-kickout. Page
nails Christian in the gut and looks for a powerbomb. Christian rolls down, but Page ducks
a clothesline and hits the powerbomb 1-2-shoulder up. Christian hits DDP with the reverse
backbreaker. Page tries for a Diamond Cutter, but Christian holds the ropes. Reverse DDT
by Christian 1-2-shoulder up. Christian yells at the ref and starts throwing his world
famous temper tantrum. He rakes DDP in the eyes and hits the Unprettier 1-2-3!

In the back, Angle can't figure out what Vince was thinking. Edge comes up and tells
Angle to calm down before they're match tonight. They used to be really good friends, and
Edge found some pictures of he and Angle. Edge holds the pictures up, with the words
"He Sucks" on the back, facing the camera. Angle holds up some more, reading "Yes, I
am a Dork." "It's True" and finally "I have no testicles." Edge walks off as Angle looks over
the pictures, then sees the backs and runs after Edge. Fade Out.

HHH Interview
-It's time to play the game! The Undisputed WWF Champion, Triple H, makes his way
down the ramp and into the ring. Monday night, Ric Flair made a Championship Match for
Backlash: Triple H vs. The Undertaker. Tonight, Vince McMahon claims that he holds the
right to make the Championship Match, and chooses Triple H to put the Undisputed Title
on the line against Hulk Hogan. Frankly, he could care less either way. But since it looks
like it will be Hogan, he knows Undertaker will be pissed. Well let The Game assure him
of one thing: the title isn't going anywhere. When Triple H gets done with Hogan, he will be
waiting for Taker. Hendrix blares, but out comes Hogan in Red and Yellow! RED AND
YELLOW! WHOOOO! Hulkamania is back, brothers! He says that he was just as
surprised as everyone else when Vince included The Hulkster in the Backlash match. He
thought it couldn't get any bigger than WrestleMania I, then he thought it couldn't get any
bigger than WrestleMania III. Then the fans brought Hulkamania back at WrestleMania
XVIII. Hulkamania rules again, brother. But it doesn't get any bigger than the Undisputed
Title. If these fans believe in him, and believe he deserves a shot, then he's gonna take it.
Trips says that it will be an honor to be in the ring with the Immortal Hulk Hogan. But while
it's an honor, there's a little part of him that is sad. Sad because he will have to hurt
someone he has looked up to his whole life, and he'll have to hurt him badly. He will not
hesitate one second in that ring. When Hogan gets in the ring at Backlash and looks in
his eyes, Hogan won't be immortal or even an icon; he's just an obstacle for Triple H to run
down. That's not a threat, nor a warning. It's a fact. Nothing will come between Triple H
and the Undisputed WWF Championship, not even the Immortal Hulk Hogan. Brother, he
is The Game and he is that damn good. Hogan says that Hunter may be right. But even
when the experts say Hulkamania is dead and gone, it always rises up again. And at
Backlash, when Hulkamania rises up, he's got one question: whatcha gonna do, brother,
when Hulkamania runs wild on him? With that, Hogan tears his Hulkashirt and flexes right
in Triple H's face. Fade Out.

Edge vs. Kurt Angle
-Angle runs down and takes Edge down, stomping away over and over. Spinning heel kick
by Edge, but Angle hits him with a German Suplex. Vertical suplex by Angle 1-2-kickout.
Angle smashes Edge into the corner and chops away. Edge catches Angle with a big
boot, but Angle comes back with an overhead belly-belly. Angle looks for the Olympic
Slam, but Edge floats over and drives Angle's head into the mat. Edge with punches and a
flying elbow. Clothesline by Edge, who ducks a punch and pulls Angle down 1-2-kickout.
Edge gets Angle locked in the ropes and Spears the prone gold medalist. Another Spear!
He clotheslines Angle over the top. On the outside, Angle gets a chair, but Edge goes out
and pulls him in the ring. Angle pokes him in the eye and punches away. Back bodydrop
by Edge. Angle grabs the chair as Edge runs for a Spear. Angle puts it in front and Edge
rams into the chair. The DQ bell rings and Angle gets the chair again. He pulls it away
from the ref, but Edge has recovered and forces Angle from the ring.

In the back, Billy Kidman meets up with his real-life lady Torrie Wilson. He's facing Tajiri
for the Light Heavyweight Title tonight, and he knows Torrie will be there. He just wanted
to let her know that their WCW past is behind them. They hug, when Tajiri comes up on
them. He forces Torrie to kiss him and takes her away. Fade Out.

Tajiri vs. Billy Kidman (Cruiserweight Title)
-Kidman wrenches Tajiri's arm, but Tajiri snapmares him and hits a headscissors. Kidman
comes back with one of his own, as well as two armdrags. Tajiri catches Kidman with a
reverse thrustkic that sends him outside. Tajiri with an asai moonsault onto Kidman. Back
inside, Tajiri goes up top and leaps, but Kidman dropkicks him out of the air 1-2-kickout.
Tajiri hits Kidman with a spinning heel kick 1-2-shoulder up. Tajiri goes for a powerbomb,
but Kidman floats out. Tajiri catches him with the springboard back elbow 1-2-shoulder up.
Tajiri goes for the springboard crossbody, but Kidman catches him with a powerbomb.
Kidman goes up top, but misses the Shooting Star Press! Kick of Death 1-2-kickout! Tajiri
goes for the Tarantual, but Kidman pushes him over the top. Tajiri puts his belt in the ring
and whips Kidman into the corner. Tarantula applied by Tajiri. He goes over to get his Title
belt but can't find it. He sees that Torrie is holding it. He yells, but Kidman rolls Tajiri up
1-2-3! Billy Kidman wins the Cruiserweight Title! After the match, Torrie looks very upset
with herself. Tajiri gets a mic and apparently calls Torrie into the ring. He circles her and
says something angrily at her. He screams in short bursts, scaring Torrie. He drops the
mic and walks off.

In the back, Vince says that he's fine with Kidman as the Cruiserweight Title. But the one
change that gets him is the Hardcore Title. Vince drafted Maven so he could bring the Title
to Smackdown. Vince tells Bob "Hardcore" Holly to go teach Maven a lesson. Hardcore
leaves, and Stacy Keibler comes in. She knows that Vince has a lot on his plate, but she
wants to offer him her services as an "executive assistant." She loved Vince's "intellectual
sperm" speech on Raw. She loves the wa Vince talks, and he loves the way she walks.

In the back, Godfather, Funaki, Chavo Guerrero, Hurricane, Hugh Morrus, and Rikishi are
placing bets on something that has to do with Mark Henry. Fade Out.

In the back, D-Von bursts into Vince's office, asking who the hell he thinks he is to split
him from his brother, all because Vince and Flair can't see eye to eye? Vince needs to
testify. Vince says that he wanted the Dudley Boys on SmackDown. Flair knew that and
split them up, so Vince took the better Dudley Boy. He thought D-Von was ready to step
up, to climb the ladder of success. But now, he can get the hell out of Vince's office until
he figures out who the hell D-Von really is. Don't come back until he's ready to be a WWF
Superstar.

In the back, Al Snow and Maven are talking about him being a three-time Hardcore
Champion. A year ago, he would have had to pay some crazy on the streets to get the
kind of beating Hardcore Holly is going to give him tonight. Fade Out.

Maven vs. Hardcore Holly
-Maven ducks a clothesline and hits Hardcore with a spinning heel kick and gets an early
two count. Hardcore beats on Maven in the corner and chops away. Hardcore sets him on
the ropes and kicks him up into the gut. Low blow by Hardcore, then a hard clothesline.
Maven rolls up Hardcore 1-2-kickout. On the outside, the two exchange punches. They
come back inside, and Hardcore Holly shows Maven that the youngster's dropkick isn't
quite perfect yet. Hardcore goes up top and leaps, but Maven gets his foot up 1-2-shoulder
up. Maven goes up top and hits a missile dropkick 1-2-kickout. Hardcore picks up Maven
and gives him the Alabama Slam 1-2-3!

Main Event: Chris Jericho vs. The Rock
-The Y2J Countdown hits 0.00, and out come the Ayatollah, the Living Legend, Chris
Jericho. The Rock starts to come down the ramp, but Jericho runs up to face him. Rock
beats Jericho against a barrier and then knocks him over, into the fans. Rock smashes
him into the barrier a few times. Jericho comes back, only to be hiptossed over the barrier
and back to ringside. Jericho ducks a clotheslines and catapults Rock into the ringpost.
They finally get in the ring. Jericho chokes Rock into the corner and chops away. Rock
ducks a chop and starts laying in with chops of his own. Jericho catches him with a
spinning heel kick 1-2-shoulder up. Mounted punches by Jericho, then more, but of the
knockdown variety. Jericho goes up top and hits Rock with a missile dropkick
1-2-shoulder up. Vertical suplex by Jericho. He places his foot on Rock's chest for a cover
1-2-shoulder up. Rock fires back with punches, but Jericho trips him up and looks for the
Walls. Rock grabs the ropes before Jericho can flip him over. Jericho goes up top and
yells at the fans, allowing Rock to hit the ropes and 'buckle Jericho. Punches by Rock,
who goes up with Jericho and Superplexes him, but can't cover. Rock catches Jericho
with a clothesline, then another, then a belly-belly, and a DDT 1-2-shoulder up! Rock
chops Jericho and ducks a forearm, but Jericho connects with Tim White. Rock locks
Jericho in the SharpShooter, but Tim White isn't there. Kurt Angle runs in, but Rock
disposes of him. Jericho clotheslines Rock down and scoop slams him. He tosses elbow
pad and runs the ropes, but Rock hops up and gives Jericho a spinebuster! He throws the
real elbow pad and runs, but Angle catches him with a clothesline. Olympic Slam! Jericho
rolls over as Tim White recovers 1-2-shoulder up! Edge runs down the ramp and beats on
Kurt Angle from behind. He clotheslines Angle over the barrier and beats him through the
crowd to the back. In the ring, both Rock and Jericho are down, and Tim White starts the
10 Count. Both men stagger up by the eight coutn, with Rock firing punch after punch. He
ducks a clotesline and looks for the Rock Bottom, but Jericho low blows him. Bulldog to
Rock, but he can't connect on the Lionsault. Rock Bottom to Jericho 1-2-3! End Show.

Usually only read the spoilers for smackdown but no way in hell am I gonna miss the return of hulkamania. You know though that they're gonna have to make some trades because raw was pitiful and smackdown sounds like its gonna be puttin on some great shows. Smackdown is that much better as it is, but just think about the difference once Benoit gets added to the show later in the month.

Of course smackdown would be good. All the good wrestlers and talkers are on Smackdown and not Raw. It is really stupid that all titles are not defended on both shows. So Hardyz will never get another shot at the tag belts and Edge, Angle, Jericho etc will never have a shot at the IC belt.

This split sucks.

Angle for the IC belt? Jericho for the IC belt? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK YOU!!!!! They're not that low on the totem pole. And before you bring up HHH being IC champ, shutup, because ONE main eventer run with the IC belt that did absolutely NOTHING to bolster HHH and NOTHING to bolster the title's meaning in any way (Albert wore it a month later) just PROVES that main eventers shouldn't be getting that belt.

The only thing I agree with you on is maybe the Tag Titles should be defended on both programs. Otherwise, I like the fact that the titles are split up, because there are too many god damned titles. This way there are only thre or four titles on each show, and that's MUCH better and less confusing.

As for your ascertation that the split sucks, I will agree that THIS split sucks because Smackdown has too much main event talent meaning, just as I predicted, the mid card talent is getting the shaft AGAIN on Smackdown. Something tells me I'm going to enjoy Raw ALOT more in that I'll get to see more new guys get elevated on Raw meaning it won't be the same old shit like on Smackdown, like I see here. Not to say it's a bad show or anything, but this Smackdown is the same stuff and same guys shoved down our throats most of you have been COMPLAINING about before the split. At least Raw has guys like Bubba Ray Dudley and Bradshaw getting elevated to give us something NEW. Granted, I might not pick those guys to get elevated myself, but it is a nice change of pace and let's see how they run with the ball now that it's been given to them. Smackdown is, "Wow, the Rock beat Jericho. Gee, haven't seen THAT in like two months!"

"Losers always whine about 'doing their best'. Winners go home and fuck the prom queen."

So you are telling me than that a bunch of feuds between Angle, Jericho, Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Edge and RVD would not be good than huh. You are mad. Those matches would steal the f'n show. This makes the IC belt the 2nd biggest belt in the federation again like it should be. Yes Angle could still compete for World title but this puts him in new feuds. WOuld you rather see Jericho face kaientai or scotty 2 hotty and albert.

Figure, right now, Undertaker, Hogan and Rock will be feuding with HHH for the belt.

Yeah, those fueds would rock, but, um, who says the IC title has to be on the line? Jericho and Benoit and Angle can have a fine feud without a belt on the line thank you very much. It would bury Jericho and Benoit to be associated with the IC belt at this stage in their careers and it would NOT help make the IC belt the #2 belt because the IC belt already IS the #2 belt, and you can't have main eventers hold that belt unless you want to make it a main eventer exclusive belt. If you do that, it would put it right up there in prestige with the World belt and that hurts BOTH belts cuz then it looks like you got two world title belts which is NEVER a good idea, see: WCW mid 90s and WWF summer and fall of 2001.

The IC belt HAS to be for mid carders on the brink of main eventing, like RVD and Eddie G, whom, btw, you can see on the "inferior" Raw brand as they kill each other for our amusement in great matches. Benoit or Jericho having that belt is useless at this point and time is my point. Yeah, they can have a fued where they help elevate Guererro or whoever, but don't get the IC belt involved, when you can use that belt to start a fued to elevate TWO guys who need the rub.

And, although I don't get the point of the question, I'd probably rather see them face KaiEnTai, seeing as how I think KaiEnTai has INDEED earned a push of some sort by now, and that match would be 10 billion times better than a match against the suckiest wrestler in the universe and the guy whose only move anymore seems to be the cliched and overdone Worm who isn't over anymore, and quite frankly doesn't seem motivated at all when I see his matches, though I'd be alright with him getting a singles push if they tweak, or should I say, OVERHAUL, his character.

First off let me say that I'm as psyched as anyone else that hogan is back and now he's wearing the yellow and red. The Rock/Hogan match was definatley a big moment.
BUT.....Hogan/HHH in the main event? Is this a dead set match or just something that will be hyped and dropped? I'd rather see this match and not Undertaker or Rock. But I'm not sure about it....

SmackDown! looks great. Hogan returing to the Yellow/Red!! That just kicks ass, and him feuding with HHH would be great, but with every good thing in the WWF there is a bad thing... Taker will most likely be in the main event. The match will be worse enough with Hogan's slow paced style (not saying that I don't like him) and then Taker will ruin it with his crappy wrestling. I guess Angle is feuding with Edge, so my question is where does this leave Jericho?

I enjoyed SmackDown, it was definetley better than Raw. The HHH/Hogan segemnt was awsome, I'm liking it way more than Rock/Hogan. And the build should be great as long as there are no Semis involved. Jericho had a decent match with Rocky. Jericho should have won off of that Peoples Elbow :( I'm pretty much seeing Kurt Angle vs. Edge; Rock vs. Jericho matches at Backlash. SmackDown will be providing all of the good matches in the next couple of weeks.

Since this has to do with Smackdown, I figured I'd post this here, but does anybody else think HHH is all set to turn heel at Backlash after watching Smackdown. I mean it's fucking obvious that much like Rock at Mania, the crowd is gonna be anti-HHH all match long anyway, his face run has been a failure in my eyes, and his character is SO much better as a heel anyway. So, why not do it at Backlash so that we get another moment where it looks like the fans booked the match on their crowd reaction like at Mania?

Besides, the list of guys he could face as a heel champ in BOTH brands is much more impressive anyway. I mean look at this:

As a face, he can fight:

-Angle
-Jericho
-um, Scott Hall, sorta
-Booker T, if they actually stated giving a shit about him
-Taker

Um, that's about it. And thank God they scrapped him taking on the last one or I might have to pour toxic poison at my eyes. While the top two rule the world, they are the only two that would really work and draw money for a PPV main event.

As a face:

-Hogan
-Rock
-Austin
-Benoit when he comes back, assuming he stays face like he was before he left
-RVD (see Booker T)

and, if they elevate them properly, in a few months, we might see them adding these guys based on who they seem to be pushing on Raw:

-Kane
-Bradshaw

Ick. You know what, scrap Bradshaw, I hope.

Anyway, the list is so much more impressive as a heel. Plus, the nWo needs a new leader now that Nash is out for hopefully forever and he's facing the nWo's main enema, I mean, enemy: Hogan. So, why not kill two birds with one stone and have HHH go nWo at Backlash.

I could see them doing a tag match at Backlash: Hall and X-pac v. Kane and Bradshaw and build it as the nWo's last match together as it is announced one of the two is being traded to the Smackdown brand thus seperating them, and then at the end of the night, the nWo comes out and costs Hogan the title and align with HHH. They then say that the nWo asked McMahon to make the trade (Flair agreed cuz he thought it was the end of the nWo) so that HHH will have one nWo buddy at Raw to protect him and one at SD to protect him and the nWo lives in both shows. Hey, it's better than the stupid ass excuse for the nWo of today and it might make the stupid money they spent on Hall and Nash to make the nWo name viable somewhat pay off if it works. The nWo then serves as like a Four Horsemen type group where the main goal is saving HHH's title.

It fixes alot of problems, IMO. As for why HHH turned? He's a Kliq guy from way back and wanted the help to beat Hogan since it seemed the fans and everyone was against him and in hulk's corner the whole time. Yeah, not the best reason, but at least he's not fighting over shampoo.

I can see HHH joining the nWo at Backlash because they need a new member with Nash out, they need a big name in the group now that Hulk is gone. And HHH is much better heel anyway. Also, I could see Austin taking on Taker, and maybe Flair would turn heel there and shock the world by helping Taker win. Just some predictions...

I think this is where the two shows can be really cool. have him heel on one show and face on the other. they just need to come up with 2 story lines that would make it seem possible to be good on one side and bad on the other. have him say that keeping the belt is the most important thing to him and he feels going with the NWO will help him on the Raw side. and i'm sure they could do some storyline on Smackdown to make him the good guy. even as a good guy his interviews now can be seen as "heel" interviews. so it would be easy to switch them back and forth. just my stoned ramblings though

I think that is stupid. Do you think it is possible? It would take like a year for the fans to figure out that they were supposed to cheer for him on one show, and boo him on the other.
Why would you want him to be a face and a heel at the same time?

the whole point is to have 2 different shows. the WWF wants to try and make the fans think of the 2 shows as something seperate. there isn't suppose to be much jumping of talent back and forth or the whole split is useless. so just do the 2 shows storylines in opposite directions and see what happens. it can't be much worse than what has been on lately. just my opinion...and i'm stoned...not stupid. :-p

They'll turn HHH heel. I mean, they book him as GOD, and they sacrifice / screw over Jericho for the purpose of getting HHH over as a face, and it's all been a DISMAL failure.

People just don't care about HHH as a face. And I don't blame them.

I really liked HHH right before he won his first WWF Title and in late '99. How he would do anything to win it or get a shot, he was desperate to hold the Title, he put Foley out with a sledgehammer, and ran-down Austin, he reformed DX. He was a extremely talented heel. If they can bring back the desperate HHH, I'll be happy. Plus, it could boost the nWo, because it has sucked so far.
