quote:

Rock will be taking time off until June to both promote "Scorpion King" as well as spend time home with his family. I'm not certain when his hiatus begins, but it may have already started. At this point Rock is not scheduled on either of the next two WWF PPV shows. As with everything in the WWF, it is subject to a moment's change, although I'm reasonably sure Rock won't be appearing on house shows for a while.

Seems like the Rock has spent most of his time lately pushing Hogan.. A break will be good for not only him but for all of us..If only the undertaker would take a break.

This is good! But why does the WWF even put up with this garbage? He takes like half the year off sometimes, last year and now this year? And every time we have to see some special comeback. What the hell am I complaining about? The Rock is gone! :-D

The slow metamorphosis of Rock into the new Hulk Hogan continues.

There are alot of tools on this board rejoicing as I type.

I'm happy. This is good news. Rock goes out, Benoit comes in. And maybe now he'll get some exposure too; no boring Rock promos to interrupt valuable Benoit ring time.

I'm glad the Rock is going away for a while. I do
not despise the Rock but the whole respect for
Hogan thing deminishes his character. He seems

The Rock sucks. I hate this awful piece of trash. Buddy buddy with Hogan? What in the name of John Wayne's ass is going on? The Rock can be evil in the ring if he wants. That's what I like. HHH seems like he doesn't have it anymore. It's because he's a good guy. He needs to make a turn, and he needs to make it as fast as possible. Hogan needs to do the same thing. It's just my opinion, but I think it was better when they were heels. By the way, anyone see the RAW (the one where they were all under one roof) where Austin gave Vince a beer and stunnered him, and as he was in the air he threw the beer can up? I thought that was cool how it went up so damn fast.

The first time he was out was to film the movie that he is taking time off to promote now.

Wanna know why the WWF puts up with it? They make money off it too. Guess who negotiated his contract for the movie? Yup, Vince.

Vince is also smart enough to know the potential free press for the WWF this movie will generate.

krahzee, is the wwf ready to take the bad press if this movie tanks though? i think that wrestling has a bad enough reputation with more of the "legitimate press" right now, and a horrible movie, that universal or whoever, will say "hey it was vince's idea, blame him"...is the wwf ready for that much more bad press? didn't think so

First of all, the WWF is looking for free press period. This movie wasn't Vince's idea, he just negotiated the Rock's contract with the studio. If the movie tanks he doesn't lose a dime.

Plus, Vince has a history of supporting his wrestler's side projects ever since Hogan did Rocky. The Mummy series has been highly profitable so far, so it's not as big of a risk as the first one was as far as bombing.

Actually, Hogan wasn't with the WWF until after Rocky 3. The success of the movie was part of the reason Vince signed him and made him the focal point of the promotion.

As for Rocky and The Scorpion King, yeah, it really doesn't matter how well the movie does or how the critics feel. It's pretty much a given that the movie will be awful, but the publicity alone from having one of his top stars starring in a major Hollywood film is more than enough for Vince. Remember, Vince is the guy who produced No Holds Barred.

This movie may or may not do well overall, but I guarantee it will have a big first weekend. It is basically a summer movie in the springtime.

The Mummy series was good and look how well Mummy 2 did with the Rock as the main bad guy. So WWF fans and Mummy fans will go see this movie. Most action movies get panned by critics anyway. It does not hurt their box office.

It is not a stupid wrestling movie like No Holds Barred or where Rock is in a tutu like Hogan. This is an action movie that people will go see.

As for the Rock, I think they kept him sucking up to Hogan because he knew he was going to be gone for a while and wanted all of his millions and millions of the Rock's fans to become Hulkamaniacs. Rock was not going to be a bad guy while his movie was coming out. Vince and Rock want maximum amount of people to go to the movie.

However, when Rock comes back, I do see him turning heel because say Hogan's popularity has gotten to higher levels than the Rock and Rock turns on him. I just think they will have their rematch with Rock as a heel at Summerslam.

Did you see the movie? Rock had about 10 minutes of actual screen time (and that's being generous). That's more along the lines of an extended cameo appearance than main character status.

Yes, I saw the movie. Yes he was in it for a short period. The whole f'n movie was about him, whether he was in it or not. They explained his history in the beginning and the final fight was with him and Brendan Fraser. So again, yes the Rock was the main bad guy. If he wasn't a big part of the movie why did they put him on the movie posters.
