No Way Out notes, news and opinions from under the black Resistol Hat...
Another busy week for yours truly, as I am currently in Chicago preparing for Saturday night’s XFL game on NBC between the Chicago Enforcers and the NY/NJ Hitmen. We will fly to Las Vegas after the game and broadcast No Way Out Sunday, and then it’s on to Phoenix for Monday’s RAW. Then a few days of R&R in Phoenix before heading to San Francisco for next week’s XFL contest. Thank goodness for cell phones, fax machines and computers! This should be a fun weekend, albeit a busy few days, of XFL and WWF events.

There are several interesting matchups at No Way Out, headlined by the 2 out of 3 falls match between Steve Austin and Triple H. These two competitors have an opportunity to tell a helluva story, in three phases. I fully expect the steel cage third fall to come into play as I don’t think either Stone Cold or the Game will take two straight falls from the other. Both these guys seem to be ready for a great outing Sunday on Pay-Per-View and I believe they will deliver. This match should be one of the best of the year from where I sit.

The Rock’s challenge to World Wrestling Federation Champion Kurt Angle will probably go on right before the Austin - Triple H match and should be very solid, as well. The overwhelming sentiment seems to be that Rock will win and then head to WrestleMania and meet the Rattlesnake for the WWF Title.

I can’t argue with that logic but as we all know stranger things have happened in the Federation. In any event, Angle and The Rock are two of our very best young performers and I think the overall quality of this contest may surprise us. It will be very good but it could be excellent.
The “cluster principal” may be a factor in the Triple Threat Tag Title Table Match between Undertaker/Kane, Edge/Christian, and the Dudley Boyz. If this match gets off to a good start, this one has a chance to be a sleeper at No Way Out. I know all six guys in this match will have a great effort and that’s where any good match starts.

I love the Intercontinental Championship Fatal Four Way between Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, X-Pac, and Eddie Guerrero. These four guys can all go and this one could be a show stealer. We should see some excellent offense here.

The Stephanie-Trish attraction obviously will not be a Jack Brisco-Dory Funk, Jr. classic, but it’s not intended to be. But, if kept relatively short, should be entertaining.

The King’s match versus Steven Richards has a nice storyline and will be better than some may think. Expect lots of “garnish” in this one.

What can we expect from the Big Show-Raven Hardcore Title match? Lots of gimmicks? Probably. Unique spots? No doubt. Both these talents seem to be under a microscope and I’m sure they will give it all they can. In their minds, both men have something to prove and I hope they succeed.

At this time, seven matches are on tap but there is always a chance of another being added Sunday on MTV’s HEAT. Hopefully, we will be able to deliver as good an event as we had last month at the Royal Rumble. I can’t wait to be a part of this show!

Scotty 2 Hotty is having problems with what we think is a pinched nerve in his neck. He will take it easy for the next couple of weeks.

William Regal’s neck problem is much better as evidenced by his SmackDown! match with Test. I am personally very happy for Regal because of the way he has gotten his life and career back on track.

Bob Holly’s surgically repaired broken arm is giving him some problems but is not expected to keep him out of action at this time. I assure you this guy is plenty tough.

Y2J is doing physical therapy to ease the pain of a herniated disc in his lower back.

Justin Credible, whose name still may change, is a welcome addition to our roster. He and X-Pac could form a super duo, in my opinion.

Tazz, Lita and Rikishi had a very successful autograph session Wednesday night at the Virgin MegaStore in New York City to help launch WWF The Music Volume 5. Over 800 autographs were signed in a little over two hours.

Chyna did a People Magazine photoshoot Thursday in Los Angeles in support of her book, “If They Only Knew.” The book will move to No. 2 on the New York Times best seller list in the next week, we are told.

Some unique storylines are being discussed and should be in place, to some degree, as we head to WrestleMania. After WrestleMania, several new storylines will definitely be introduced.

Jerry Lynn has signed his Federation contract but does not have a start date as I am writing this. Jerry is a veteran hand who brings a great deal of talent and professionalism to the Federation.

My lobbying for the light heavyweight division seems to be falling on deaf ears but I’ll keep singing their praises until I’m told to leave it alone.

Rhino, whose name may also be changed, had a solid dark match in Kansas City this week. This kid is in his early 20s, has lost about 20 pounds and looks to be in excellent condition. He will start on TV in the next few weeks. Rhino should grow into a main eventer here in time.

My BBQ sauce project looks promising and should get on track in the next few weeks.

A couple of my remarks in this column have been criticized in the last week and after reading the critiques of the wrestling media, I can see where they are coming from. I meant no malice, however, I will be more selective in what I write in the future. Sometimes, as I am learning, the truth on some matters are better left unsaid.

The Memphis territory’s Jonesboro, Ark. event Wednesday night was a huge success.

WrestleMania has a few seats still remaining so the April 1 classic is not sold out but is expected to have over 62,000 fans on hand at the Astrodome (or maybe more).

We have had talks about next year’s WrestleMania site and I think our fans will like the final selection.

Over 100,000 fans are expected to attend this year’s Axxess over three days at WrestleMania. Ticket sales are going very well.

No Way Out will be sold out by show time. Phoenix (RAW) and Tucson (SmackDown!) are both sold out as we speak.

On March 5 and 6 we are doing back-to-back days at the MCI Center in Washington DC. RAW is sold out and SmackDown! is almost “clean.” Two days in the same city are coveted by our talents.

One of the nicer things said about yours truly’s XFL announcing was written this week in USA Today. I was compared to the Dukes of Hazzard’s Boss Hogg! Was it the hat or the accent? Nothing to do about these shots but to keep working hard.

Stone Cold will guest on NBC’s “Tonight Show with Jay Leno” prior to WrestleMania.

I hope you check out our NBC XFL game Saturday night from Chicago’s Soldier Field where cold, rainy weather is forecast. Jesse Ventura may be accustomed to cold weather, but I’m sure as hell not. Should be fun anyway! Take care and be ready for No Way Out! Vegas may never be the same...

You can ignore this thread if you want to. I just wanted to bring back the oldest thread that I could find to kind of get a retro look at the past (according to the date on this thread) 7 months.

Just some thoughts:

1) All that time wasted hyping the XFL is just funny on so many different levels now that the league is nice, dead, and buried.

2) He was right about the 2/3 falls match, that might just have been match of the year

3) He was wrong about the Rock/Angle match going on before the Austin- HHH match

4) I had forgotten how predictable it was that Rock was gonna beat Angle. I mean, when Ross has to acknowledge that on his damn report, that's predictable.

I wish many of those storylines that came right after Wrestlemania were more like the old ones, Jimbo. Remember the horror of Taker/Kane v. HHH/SCSA????????

And how.
