hey guys. I'm interested in trying to buy some ECW videos, PPV's or otherwise, and I was wondering if some of you could perhaps recommend some to me. are there any particular titles I should be looking for. also, if anyone is aware of a good retail site online for these vids, please pass it along.

thanks in advance.

Retail? Well, there are some ECW DVD's on the market, you could probably get them at amazon.com. I wouldn't, though. I'd stick with bootlegs, to get the complete shows.

A few suggestions:

Barely Legal - 4/97 (their first PPV)
Gangsta's Paradise - 9/95 (Raven/Stevie Richards vs. The Pitbulls)
Double Tables - 2/95 (Chris Benoit vs. Al Snow)

There should be comp tapes out there of the Eddy Guerrero/Dean Malenko series from 95. Find one, and get it. Some of the best wrestling you'll ever see.

Basically any ECW tape from 94-97 will have some quality wrestling on it, but you will have to wade through some crap. It's worth it to see Rey Misterio Jr, Psichosis, and Juvi in their pre-WCW days, the Dreamer/Raven feud, Cactus Jack, Steve Austin, Brian Pillman, Scorpio, etc etc etc. Just get it all, dammit.

There's some good stuff in the post-97 years as well. Just steer clear of the DVD's...

thanks for the help guys.

I'm curious to know what your beef is with the DVD's. Incomplete shows? Crappy matches?

What's the story with them?

It's not that the DVD's are necessarily bad, it's just that you'll get a much better value by buying the bootleg tapes. I only have two ECW DVD's, the Barely Legal one (which cut out a good portion of the show), and their first one (Hardcore Evolution I think, too lazy to go look, but for the most part I was unimpressed).

Basically, if you want the full ECW experience, get the boots. Also, see if you can find the November 23rd, 1996 show (Mass Transit incedent), truly an amazing sight...

Ugh, that tape has been sitting unwatched in my collection after just one viewing 2 years ago; definitely NOT for the weak of heart &/or stomach.

And I agree with SirO regarding Barely Legal; if you can find a prime copy (read: not an RF Video copy), go for it. ECW at its finest.

-Barely Legal.. definitely worh it, if nothing else for the 6-man tag. One of the top 5 matches I've seen.
-Big Ass Extreme Bash: some crap to weed through, but the Mysterio-Juventud matches well worth it. Real good Taz-Jericho match as well
-Pretty much any Eliminators match, especially vs. RVD/Sabu. Eliminators = best tag team ever
-I don't know offhand what PPV's they're from, but Masato Tanaka-Mike Awesome had some great matches too.
-Also there are a lot of good TV tapes out there, from the MSG days

Aah, memories.. When I have the motivation, I will be encoding some classic ECW/Puro matches I've got laying around, in case anyone cares...

what's the story with the Mass Transit incident?
Some fat kid lied to Paul Heyman and told him he's a trained professional wrestler. Heyman decides to put said fat kid in a tag match with D-Von Dudley against The Gangstas. New Jack proceeds to blade his forehead with an exacto knife and beat the living shit out of him. You can hear him scream as he gets bladed, and see the blood literally squirting from his head.

Erich "Mass Transit" Kulas would later file a lawsuit against ECW and New Jack. The charges were dropped.

Heatwave ‘98 (8/2/98) - Probably their best match.
Anarchy Rulz (9/19/99 World Title) - 3 way Tanaka vs. Awesome vs. Taz
TNN TV (12/24/99 World Title)
TNN TV (12/31/99 World Title)

There were more, but these are probably the best matches between the two.
