Well, my friend purchased "What?", so I had the chance to watch it tonight. I'd have to say it's probably one of the best, if not THE best WW_ video I've ever seen. Not enough WCW footage, but there were a ton of behind-the-scenes stories and such, including how "What?" was invented - which is a story I found to be hilarious, and you'd never think THAT started it all.

There's also an amazing match - in its entirety - Austin vs. Steamboat at Bash at the Beach '94. (A DVD extra.)

All in all - and I don't say this much when it comes to WW_ stuff - it's worth checking out.

Austin & Steamboat had a great feud with a series of wonderful matches, specifically over the U.S. title. This match in question was one of the very last of Steamboat's career - ironically enough, "The Dragon" would sustain his career ending injury at the hands of Austin just a few months later.

If it was a career-ending injury, how is it that he's making a return in the NWATNA?

I'm not flaming at you, it just makes me laugh how these old-timers just don't know when to call it quits. As for the DVD, I have been planning on renting it, just haven't had the chance. Sounds like lots of great stuff to see though.

He's only slated to make an appearance at the debut show, along with Harley Race and Dory Funk Jr. As of this time, he's not scheduled to see any in-ring action.

Hey, have some respect for the elders.

Steamboat was a true great, and I only wish he had been able to stick around a little longer. He could still put on great matches (i.e. Spring Stampede 1994, against Ric Flair for the title - not as good as their 1989 series, but precious little really is). Hell, I'd mark out hard if he returned to the ring, even if it was just for one final match.

If I'm not mistaken, occasionally the Steamer still makes appearances or refs once in a while. It's nice to see someone is going to honor him

I thought Steamboat's career ending injury came at the hands of Sting in a match in Japan?

No, I believe you're confusing Ricky Steamboat with the other great Rick in WCW at that time, the late "Ravishing" Rick Rude. Sting injured Rude's neck, if memory serves, forcing Rude to retire, and, uh, ultimately sue.

Although it was a weird sort of karmic injury, as Rude was responsible for fucking up Masahiro Chono's neck not too long before.

Steamboat's injury occurred during one of the Clash of the Champions (remember those?). Austin back body-dropped Steamboat outside of the ring, and when he fell Ricky nailed his tailbone on the apron of the ring. Seems like a simple injury, nothing major, but it screwed his back up enough so that he had to retire.

Sadly enough, the Steamboat feud was the last great thing Austin did in WCW, as immediately after Ricky's injury and the end of the feud they had Steve jobbing to Hacksaw Jim Duggan. But we all know who got the last laugh there.
