Diamond Dallas Page Set To Retire From Wrestling
Posted By Ashish on 06.11.02

It looks as if Diamond Dallas Page (real name Page Falkenberg) has decided to retire from WWE and pro-wrestling. Page told his decision to Vince McMahon earlier today at a meeting in Greenville, SC. Page has been troubled with neck problems and felt that he was too old (46) to come back after the lengthy rehabilitation process that would be needed for his injuries.

Sucks that he went out like this. Out of all the guys from the original invasion, he originally was THE MAN, with Booker T included. He deserved to have at least 1 run at a major title in the WWF. Too bad. He gave everything he had to the business, and was real over with the fans. He was even a good heel, as he was a good face too.

It was a bigger shame that WWF treated him like a joke. Basically making him Undertaker's whipping boy. Hell, he was Sara Undertaker's whipping boy as well. When he came out as Sara's stalker, I figured it would be a great rivalry between the two. But Vince decided that everything from WCW was completely inferior no matter what.

Which is why the whole Invasion angle never worked, but that's another old story.

DDP's retirement is probably for the best. Better to be able to walk away from wrestling, than be wheeled out.

What suprised me the most is the lack of pushes he got....I think it's widely known that William Regal constantly gets pushes and is pretty much never without a belt because of his ties to SCSA, DDP was also a good friend of Austin (both Austin and Foley were pushing Vince to hire him when DDP was going through contract negotiations in WCW)

Perhaps he wanted to make it on his own, and if that's the case, I respect the guy even more than I do already...It's a shame to see him go, but it is nice to see that some people still know when to quit

This sucks! His last match was with Hardcore Holly!? What a shitty way to go out! This guy was awsome as a heel, face, and he's better than the Rock at acting! :-D He was one of my favourite wrestlers. I hope they give him a tribute or something...

Yes they should. Will they is another question. At least give him a video tape dedicated to him and his years in WCW and WWF.

Who else could make "Positively Page" get a reaction from the fans like he got? Those promos were funny as hell. Unfortunately, that was his highlight in the WWF.

He retired, he didnt die.

There will be no tribute. Especially to a guy who did absolutely nothing in the WWF.

He got robbed of an Oscar in that epic "Ready to Rumble"

Now DDP gets to stay home all day, relax with the millions he has earned, and bang Kimberly. Awww poor guy.

I hope that they at least let him come on TV one last time to say goodbye.

While he didn't accomplish much in the WW_, the guy always seemed to truly enjoy his job. It would be sad if he never got acknowledged for what he has done inside and out of the ring.

They don't need to do much, just let the guy have five minutes on RAW or Smackdown to come to the ring to say goodbye. It would be the classy thing to do.

If WCW let Hacksaw Jim Duggan say goodbye, then the WWE should DEFINITELY let DDP say goodbye. Itll most likely happen on Confidential though. The man loved what he did, and deserves something.

DDP has always had charisma and has the abuilty to speak to the people, the WWe should try him out as an anouncer.
It does suck that he has to retire, i really respected DDP for starting in the buisness later in life than most, but he was able to learn how to be a good wrestler quick to make up for it. Aside from the time when Vince Russo was trying to sacrifice DDP in the name of sports entertainment and the death of WcW, Page had some really decent matches before that. Even in the end with the WWf he made the war with Taker and big nosed Mrs Taker seem less shitty then it should have been.
And in his last matches he did'nt mind putting the next guy over (Christian), maybee Austin should take a lesson in class from him.

I would love to see him try out for color on HEAT. The guy can't be any worse than Jackie was a few weeks ago. He may not be that great right away, but I think he would do a pretty good job with some guidance. HEAT is a show that is taped, so even if he does mess up slightly, they can edit him.

Besides, he is a well respected guy, still loves the biz., and does alot for charity, ect... He would be a good person to rep the company.

This is from DDP's website, DDPbang.com. He has declared his retirement from wrestling, but not from the WWE. Sounds like he'll either be an announcer, or a PR guy. You gotta respect the guy and the passion and respect he has for the industry after reading this.

Yo Cutters. What’s up?
As one door closes, another will open. Unfortunately, some of the rumors are true. I have retired from the squared circle, but I have not retired from the WWE. Most of you have read about my injury, which entails my neck (not my back as some reported). My C3 and C4 vertebrae in my neck fused together on their own. I have nerve damage on my right bicep and into my hand, which makes my hand to go numb for periods longer than I care to remember. My C5, C6, and C7 vertebrae qualify to be surgically fused right now. Basically, one doctor said I could return to the ring if I was constantly monitored, but I qualified for the surgery. Another doctor said I should not return to the ring without the surgery. Yet another doctor said, “You’ve had a hell of a run. Now get the hell out of there.” The plain fact of the matter is that if I took one shot the wrong way, I was faced with becoming a quadriplegic for the rest of my life. Knowing all this, I was still rehabbing around the possibility that I would return to the ring.

It was Vince McMahon and J.R. who made the final call that it would be too dangerous for me to return to the ring. I met with J.R. on Tuesday to discuss the situation. If I did have the operation, it would take about a year to rehab. I’d be coming back in my late 40s (47+) only to do more damage to my body. What kind of condition would I be in when I hit my 50s or 60s? I know they are right and I appreciate them thinking of my health in this situation.

I was thinking of talking J.R. into letting me continue until I heard from my attorney who told me that if I got back into the ring my insurance policy holder (Lloyd’s Of London) would terminate my policy. That was the wake-up call. I owe it to my family now to get out of the ring, but it is going to bum me out for awhile now that I know I had finally turned a corner in the WWE and was back on the way to being the Diamond Dallas Page that made people feel the BANG!

What will I do now? J.R. told me that I am part of the WWF family and that there were several places where my services would be needed. I thanked J.R. and let him know that I really needed to step back from the business for a little while. I don’t know how long it will be, but it is going to take a little time. In the meantime, I will do what I have always done and be a positive role for this company. I will speak with the Get Real program (a program that I truly believe in), attend fan functions, and appear at ticket on-sale events. This is just to keep me as part of the WWE family. Like I said, as one door closes, another one will open. My main focus at this point is to become the best motivational speaker I can be.

I want to thank all of my friends and fans who have hung in there with my character as it has run the gauntlet. My favorite time will always be when people called me the “People’s Champion”. That rang true because it was the support of the people that gave me the opportunity to enjoy a ride I never thought was possible. I believed that one day I would be a top guy, but I never thought I would wrestle with Karl Malone or be on the Tonight Show or be in movies…and I sure as hell never thought I would ever be a three-time World Champion…but I dreamt about it. Your support helped my dreams come true and I have never forgotten that, nor will I ever forget it. Just remember… you may have loved me, you may have hated me, but I will never forget you.

It’s been MY pleasure…

Page

P.S. – It ain’t over. You’ll be hearing from me…and that’s a good thing.
