What a surreal, sad night....I don't know what else to say. I'm gonna miss it. Now its all Vince's show. Ok, terrific.

Does anyone else remember when it was cool to bash the WWF and WCW was on top? It seems like ages ago.

I think the wrestling world will be a much bleaker place in a year.

I just wonder what is going to happen to the guys who have burnt Vince in the past that I would like to see keep their jobs (Scott Steiner, Nash, etc..)

What do you expect from a guy who has to ask every week how to post a sig pic.

And this would of been much sadder to see Nitro go if Nitro had been something worth watching the past 2 years. Slowly WCW got to a point from where it you were excited for Monday at 8. To the point where Raw's Commercials were more exciting.

Fuck, dude. Either you should be ashamed to call yourself a wrestling fan, or you really are Tazz and you're trying to preserve the storyline.

Sure WCW used to be on top, but they lost their steam. They forgot that new things, things no one had ever seen before, got them to the top. They let the nWo run WAY TOO LONG.... and by the time they said goodbye to it, they were already too deep in the hole, and even their desperation moves just dug them deeper.

Now remember... WCW will be run separately. Sure, invasion or other cross-promotional stuff will happen, but god damn, chalk that up to dream booking. There will be matches we always wanted to see but never thought we ever COULD see.

And I'll admit it. When Vince was the first thing you saw on Nitro after the WCW logo, I marked out like hell.

This truly was a sad program. Not in the sense that it was sad to see it go, but the fact that they still weren't able to do anything remotely interesting.
There was not one surprise, except for Shane McMahon, but we all knew about that beforehand. Plus, how many years has WCW been around now? You would think that they could put together some sort of montage of the past however many years they've been in business. Granted the past 2-3 yrs. of WCW sucked big time, but back in the day they were exciting to watch. The least they could have done was sent us down memory lane one last time.

That was definitly wierd seeing vince on Nitro. I have to say that was the first time I looked forward to watching all of Nitro in a long time. I don't get TNN were I'm living and when Nitro went off the air I wanted more.

In the height of the wrestling wars, I spent 2 out of three hours switching back and forth between some great wrestling. Tonite was the first time I did that in years.

And so Nitro leaves us as it came, with a Sting vs. Flair main event...

It really was funny to see Shane McMahon's name on the screen with WCW graphics.

And is anyone sad that Tony Shithead Schivone didnt get to say goodbye. Me neither.

For the first time in years, I also switched back and forth between Nitro and Warzone/Raw....the best part was watching both WCW and the WWF openly bash each other for the first time (it's usually only hinted at and not as blatant)

In name only...I think the main reason he "bought" it is so that the new WCW won't have to adhere to the same contract as the WWF now has with Viacom....it may be free to find a different broadcasting channel, or not...who knows?

It's a shame we won't see Turner at Wrestlemania, though ...that would have been fucking crazy!

I think most of you guys miss the point... regardless of WCW putting on crappy shows since '99, its still the end of an era. Alot of people who put alot of years into the company now have to close a big chapter in their lives. That's a somber thought no matter what the company is.

I think this is a hot angle (WWF vs WCW) right now, but everyone seems to agree its a short-term one...meaning that by this time next year or sooner, the WWF will have the WCW talent it wants, and WCW will be relegated to re-runs on an all-wrestling network, if even that happens. No one believes the "new" WCW on TNN programs will go on for very long.

Hopefully people remember it for being a solid company for a long time, and for bringing in the wrestling boom we have right now. Even McMahon's acknowledged they lit the proverbial fire under his ass when they were beating him.

I agree its sucked for the last two years. I've heard the "nWo lasted too long" and "new talent was never developed" speeches a thousand times, so spare me.

Just let me ramble in peace....

OK just a few quick points here. Turner and WCW at one time claimed that their Heavyweight belt ran all the way back to days when Lincoln (that is Abe Lincoln..... one of the Presidents of the United States..... He freed the slaves?) wrestled. Which could be true since that belt is the old NWA belt. Of course for a while they didn't use that belt because they screwed up and allowed Flair to take the belt and wear it on WWF programing. So yes they have a rich tradition and I think it was sad that all they were able to put together was that two minute flash card looking tribute that showed Dusty Rhodes like ten times and never once showed Harley Race or Kerry Von Erich. (Both of whom wore that belt, not to mention others) That is the real shame here. Well I guess it makes sense. They haven't had any pride in two years why would they now. (that was directed at management and not the wrestlers)

As far as WCW forgetting what got them to the top being showing new stuff well you are partially correct. The nWo angle was very fresh and new to most of the United States, but was an angle that Bischoff stole from Japan. The invasion idea was done at least a year before the Outsiders arrived. Bischoff's problem was that Japan didn't have any new ideas for him to bring to the United States. I also think he got in over his head. I think Bischoff is good for wrestling and would have done a good job with WCW if given the chance again but he didn't get that chance so we may never know.

But then again we might find out. It was brought up that it will be sad for wrestlers who burned their bridges with Vince or are not wanted by Vince because their careers are over. Well maybe not. I don't think Bischoff is gonna give up that quickly on wrestling and I read rumors of Jerry Jarrett (Yes that is J. E. Double R. or Jeff's yes that is J. E. Double F dad) is interested in starting a promotion. It would take a lot to start and they would have to find a cable deal but it is possible. Plus if Vince doesn't want some of WCW's star or at least doesn't want to pay them, there would be some stars available to start a new promotions. Fox network, with Murdoch's money might back them.

About Vince using WCW for a short time and slowly pulling all it's stars over to WWF until there is nothing left, I don't think Vince will do that. I hope he doesn't. If you look at Japan, they have interpromotional cards all the time and it doesn't hurt and usually helps all the promotions involved. Besides Vince has to many main eventers in the WWF right now. I hope he runs them seperate and has a supercard interpromotional event once a year or so. Even if the Vince vs. Shane angle ends they can still be run seperately and give the fans the "dream bouts" once a year or so. Then again I am not Vince and I am sure he will do what he wants and make it work.

As far as the problems with Viacom, they were resolved as soon as Turner broadcasting decided to drop wrestling from their line up. That was one of three major problems that ended the deal between Turner and WWFE the first time. Viacom would not allow WWFE to run a show on a competing network. Shane meet with WCW wrestlers and backstage crew and told them that WCW would be shelved for about six to eight weeks and then would be brought back on TNN. Shane also made it seem that everybody would have an oppertunity if they wanted in the new WCW but did state that there might not be room for everyone.

Just a point of interest Flair actually owns that belt. They didnt screw up, it was his property.

I have to agree with Slapnutz. It is the end of an era. I remember watching the old NWA on TBS on Saturday from the same set every week.(i think it was from Center Stage in Atlanta) Watching Rick Flair, Nikita Koloff, Magnum TA, The Road Warriors and others(does anyone remember the Midnight Express/Rock n Roll Express feuds....unbelievable matches that predated the Hardy/Dudley/E&C fueds). Turner has been a staple in the wrestling world for years.

Personally I would love for Vince to start up a wrestling channel or do something like that b/c he owns all the most important wrestling footage from the past 25 years. I would love to see some old NWA mid 80s footage..

If Vince starts a 24 hour wrestling channel, I am going to need the boards help to find a job I can do from home, because I don't think I would ever leave with all the great matches that happened in the old NWA/WCW days! Rock n Roll vs. Midnights...Sting vs. Nikita...Steamboat vs. Flair...Flair vs. Funk...the Original Horsemen...Pillman vs. Liger...the list goes on and on!! I would be in my pajamas all day every day in front of that TV!!!

I agree with some of you people to a point..I'm 23 and I can remember watching the NWA on the old U-68 station back in the summer of 86.Magnum T.A vs Koloff, the Horseman, plus the UWF and World Class out of Texas. However some of the reactions I've been reading on the Net really piss me off.. .Yes its the end of an era..Yes it would be better for wrestlers if Vinnie Mac did not have a stranglehold on the biz but to all the people on different sites who I've read whining...I say DEAL WITH IT..Would you rather there be no WCW at all?!! It can only improve under the ownership of the WWF..They actually know what they are doing production wise, and have more consistency in their booking, unlike the clusterfuck that WCW booking often resembles. WCW was kicking ass in the ratings at one point and look what they did, they fucked it up...Considering that we could very easily have no WCW at all, I think all you hard-core marks should stop looking at things so sentimentally and be happy that WCW is even still around..even if its under the guidance of McMahon.

That would be so cool , a 24 hour 7 days a week wrestling Station. Watch this , dumb comcast would not have it! But that would be cool to have a wrestling station 24/7 and have lots of video tape..... they would also have to air the GLOW and POWW stuff!

I wonder to what extent Vince is going to stick it to guys who stuck it to him when WCW was offering huge money. I know he fired Jarrett, but that could be a work. I'm curious if Nash would have a job in Vinny-Mac's WWFWCW? Also, how much do you think it pisses off Vince that Bret Hart was released a few months ago and he didn't get one more chance to be his employer

check this out, from wrestlepages.com:

It looks like the first "new" WCW show will, be taped on May 9th in Trenton, New Jersey. No details have been announced but the local promoter has been told to book that day for a TV taping. We still have no idea what the show will be called or who will be wrestling on the program but speculation is that there will be at least three WWF wrestlers present. HHH will probably be one of them.
