I pulled my guitar out of the closet, dusted it off, put on some new strings, and then realized I can't remember a single song. It's been years since I last took lessons.

What I'm looking for is a good place (preferably a web site) to find tablature for songs that sound good with just ONE guitar playing the whole song with no backup. Anybody know where to find it?

Great site. Anybody have any song suggestions?
I've heard "Behind Blue Eyes" by the Who done as an accoustic solo and it sounded great. Anybody know any others?

I had a really lousy teacher who focused entirely on classical music.

I used to be able to play "Stairway" and Clapton's "Tears in Heaven" completely, but I'd say I'm only a couple of steps past Beginner.

Taste:
Classic Rock : Beatles, The Who, Floyd, Clapton, etc.
Heavy Metal : Metalica, Disturbed, Tool, etc.
Rock : Aerosmith, Alice-n-Chains, STP, etc.

Basically anything rock with a good guitar from the last 40 years.

Edit - Oh, and I can read sheet music, but get screwed up if the notes aren't played on the first seven fretts.

tabcrawler is great... but like window said.. a lot of them are wrong. Often times I'll go there to get the basic gist of a tune, but having played for about 12 years, NOTHING beats being able to play by ear. It trains your brain to listen first and figure out fingerings later. I had a teacher that always told me, if you can sing the guitar line, you can play it. The more practice at this you get, the easier it will be to know how to play something even before you try.

Anyway.. that having been said, in terms of playing things solo, you can do that with almost any song.. figuring out how to fill in the parts that are missing is the fun part in covering songs. I play solo a lot(just me and an acoustic) ... and have basically the same tastes as you. In terms of beginner type stuff from that list, I think Wish You Were Here is a beginner's standard... John Lennon's Working Class Hero is all of two chords, literally... but it's a great song. In terms of heavy stuff, Tool would be hard to pull off with just one guitar, (That doesn't stop me from having fun playing the riffs though) but Metallica's got some ballady type stuff such as Unforgiven that doesn't require a lot of backup... AIC's got an unplugged album which should give you a good idea of context on how to play heavier stuff that's toned down... and most of those songs would sound decent if it was just layne and Jerry (I cover Down in a Hole sometimes at bars).

You also might wanna check out guys like Dave Matthews who has an album or two where it's just him without his band to get some ideas on how to fill in when the band isn't there. Just keep playing... keep learning new riffs and chords (band or no band), and one day it will start to come together. good luck.

www.mxtabs.net is a great tab site, especially because it has a grading system so you can get tabs that have ben approved by other people.
For tabs by Tool, got to toolshed.down.net and check out the tab section.

Harmony Central
Guitarnotes.com

Also note that 99% of Guitar tabs are wrong, they are just guys trying to figure shit out and posting them on a website. However, these are two pretty good sites for tabs.

Im with Tony. MX features a great user rating system. It doesnt totally eliminate the factor of wrong tabalture, but you're able to decipher them easier.
