As of late, I've really been getting into acoustic music, namely the works of Dashboard Confessional. I find his music to be straight from the heart and is alot different from what I hear these days. I wonder if anyone here has any recommendations for some good acoustic bands that might be worth trying out.

I too have been venturing in the acoustic, from the heart genre. Must be this college atmosphere and the never ending search for a deeper meaning. Anyway, I've been checking out a band called Dispatch. Also, Coldplay (yellow) does some good acoustic work. If you search on audiogalaxy there are some good acoustic versions of popular songs.

hell yeah, someone other than me and rone who knows dashboard! :)

Dashboard Confessional is some of the best written, most emotional, greatest music i've ever heard. I saw them live in baltimore, Chris did an amazing show. I can't think of another artist with more meaningful lyrics, at least to me.

Dispatch is cool too, they are really big down here at Maryland, they are a D.C. area band so most people in this area knows them.

Here's one of my favorite dashboard songs

A Plain Morning

It is yet to be determined,
but the air is thick,
and my hope is feeling worn.
I'm missing home,
and I'm glad you're not a part of this,
there are parts of me that will be missed.
And the phone is always dead to me,
so I can't tell you the temperature is dropping
and it feels like

it is colder than it ought to be in March
and I still have a day or two ahead of me
till I'll be heading home,
into your arms again.
And the people here are asking after you.
It doesn't make it easier.
It doeasn't make it easier to be away.

I'd like to hire a plane
I'd see you in the morning,
when the day is fresh
I'm coming home again
I'm coming home again
When the day is fresh
I'm coming home again
It's warmer where you're waiting.
It feels more like July.
There's pillows in their cases
and one of those is mine.
And you wrote the words I love you,
And sprayed it with perfume.
It is better than the fire is
to heat this lonely room.
It is warmer where you're waiting
It feels more like July.

It is yet to be determined,
but the air is thick,
and my hope is feeling worn.
I'm missing home,
and I'm glad you're not a part of this,
there are parts of me that will be missed.
And the phone is always dead to me,
so I can't tell you the temperature is dropping
and it feels like...

it is colder than it ought to be in March
and I still have a day or two ahead of me
till I'll be heading home,
into your arms again.
And the people here are asking after you.
It doesn't make it easier.
It doeasn't make it easier to be away.

I'd like to hire a plane.
I'd see you in the morning,
when the day is fresh.
I'm coming home again.
I'm coming home again...

Im actually a big fan fan of Dispatch but theyre more of a jam band like OAR or even Phish.

Im glad to see you share the same interest in Dashboard that I do Critics. I really can't wait till their tour comes somewhere around me so I can check them out. I def imagine it being an amazing show. They have a new 4 track EP called So Impossible coming out some time soon, but I've already downloaded it and its fuckin amazing. Heres one of my personal favs:

The Briliiant Dance

So this is odd,
the painful realization that has all gone wrong.
And nobody cares at all,
and nobody cares at all.

So you buried all your lover's clothes
and burned the letters lover wrote,
but it doesn't make it any better.
Does it make it any better?
And the plaster dented from your fist
in the hall where you had your first kiss
reminds you that the memories will fade.

So this is strange,
our sidestepping has come to be a brilliant dance
where nobody leads at all,
where nobody leads at all.

And the picture frames are facing down
and the ringing from this empty sound
is deafening and keeping you from sleep.
And breathing is a foreign task
and thinking's just too much to ask
and you're measuring your minutes by a clock that's blinking eights.

This is incredible.
Starving, insatiable,
yes, this is love for the first time.
Well you'd like to think that you were invincible.
Yeah, well weren't we all once before we felt loss for the first time?
Well this is the last time.

The tracklisting for the new EP is "For You to Notice" "So Impossible" "Remember to Breathe" and "Hands Down".........For You To Notice is a stand out track but all of them are def great in true Dashboard fashion.

I've definitely been exposed to alot more music since I've come to college. You get the opportunity to meet people all across the country and learn about all sorts of different music. Not to mention you're given a blazing fast Internet connection. While you're downloading those tracks download Jack Johnson "Bubble Toes" and "Flake." Its not emotional music like Dashboard but its got a kind of laid back California vibe over an acoustic guitar. My friend from San Diego recently turned me on to him. Good driving music.

Write To Me Here

I think it all started with the Declaration of Independence -- the idea that we had the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That pursuit is what took America from the revolution to the computer age in 200 years. But the progress has come at a price. The obvious being the people that were exploited to make it possible; the not so obvious being us, the first group of people that were given no obvious frontiers to conquer. We hear stories that about the good old days that don't seem to apply anymore. It's a generation gap that leaves us without role models. But the bright side is that without role models, there are no roles. Maybe that's what the 60s were all about -- getting rid of the roles. But what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, the choices become overwhelming. Sometimes it just makes everything feel hopeless. So we destroy our bodies in the search of an ideal. Try to salvage relationships that don't work. We feel we must do something, instead of doing something that we feel. It is the prison of self-imposed momentum, and the sad part is that we get used to it. It reminds me of a song I heard the other day. It's called "The Going Nowhere Fast." But the people I have met here have shown me another side of Nowhere. They've pointed out the beautiful irony that stagnation makes it easy to stop and smell the roses, if we just let it. What would we be if we had nothing to rebel against? Well we could finally be ourselves, the first group of people who stopped looking for the answers long enough to appreciate the questions. And all we have to do is to make our own Declaration of Independence. We can embrace the right to life and liberty by simply realizing that happiness exists -- not to pursue, but to accept. After that the only challenge would be to make sure with the rest of our lives that we weren't just another fad. I don't know, it's an idea. What do you think?

I liked the originals, but i didn't like the dashboard cover. It was just too slow didn't have the same feeling that chris puts in it.

just my opinion though.

Thanks for the recommendations Slash. I downloaded the four songs that were available and really liked them all. Real similar to Dashboard. I do agree though that their cover wasn't as good as the original. Then again (cept for All Along the Watchtower) not many covers are.

Hey, I never said it was as good or it was better, I was just showing you that the cover exists, as well as a few originals from a similar artist that I was most certain ya never heard of before.

Also in the Musical Influences/Similar Artists categories with Dashboard Confessional (in bold above) is Matthew Ryan...

Comfort

I was sitting in Hell's kitchen
Contemplating murder
contemplating murder
contemplating the great escape
When you walked in looking like crap
But satisfied
I swear that you looked satisfied
And I hated you for that

Well someone once said
if you never look back
Then you'll never regret, nothing
Oh but nothing has got a way
of sneakin' up

Chorus
Well I know you did not ask
But I've got some comfort to offer
Nothing very good or bad ever lasts

Well the bum that slipped
underneath the fridge
Like a phantom card,
we call him happiness
Oh that happiness
Is a miserable son of a bitch

Now the kitchen's getting crowded
And the band is really loud
And there's a fat man
saying he's my friend
Well hey man if you're my friend
Will you spot me a drink?

And the couple in the corner
They're the reason why I hate
rock and roll
Cause rock and roll,
is dead it's dead

Chorus
Well I know you did not ask
But I've got some comfort to offer
Nothing very good or bad ever lasts

The best acoustic album I've ever bought is Al DiMeola, John McLaughlin, Paco DeLucia - Friday Night In San Francisco. I
highly recommend it; no vocals just pure acoustic guitar. Other acoustic groups you might want to check out:
Dakota Moon
Dan Burn
and if you can deal with some awful vocals The indigo girls are actually quite talented.

In keeping with the tune of broadening musical horizons, here are some other acoustic bands I've come across recently. "Feeling Left Out" "The New Amsterdams" and "Canteen Superhero". Disregard the absurd band names and give them a try.
