No it's not elvis to those who have been brainwashed by modern civilization. I mean the one and only king who actually fought for the music we enjoy today.

Johnny B. Goode
Chuck Berry

Deep down in Louisiana, close to New Orleans,
Way back up in the woods among the evergreens,
There stood a log cabin made of earth and wood
Where lived a country boy named Johnny B. Goode
Who never ever learned to read or write so well?
But he could play the guitar just like a ringin' a bell.

Go! Go! Go, Johnny, go! go!
Go, Johnny, go! go!
Go, Johnny, go! go!
Go, Johnny, go! go! Johnny B. Goode

He used to carry his guitar in a gunnysack,
Go sit beneath the tree by the railroad track.
Old engineers would see him sittin' in the shade,
Strummin' with the rhythm that the drivers made.
When people passed him by they would stop and say,
'Oh, my but that little country boy could play'

Go! Go! Go, Johnny, go! go!
Go, Johnny, go! go!
Go, Johnny, go! go!
Go, Johnny, go! go! Johnny B. Goode

His mother told him, 'someday you will be a man,
You will be the leader of a big ol' band.
Many people comin' from miles around
Will hear you play your music when the sun go down.
Maybe someday your name'll be in lights,
Sayin' 'Johnny B. Goode tonight''

Go! Go! Go, Johnny, go! go!
Go, Johnny, go! go!
Go, Johnny, go! go!
Go, Johnny, go! go! Johnny B. Goode

Do you know how pale & wanton thrillful
comes death on a strange hour unannounced,
unplanned for like a scaring over-friendly
guest you've brought to bed
Death makes angels of us all
& gives us wings where we had shoulders
smooth as raven's claws

Now ikea boy is thats not the best obscure refernce i have evr heard i dunno what is.

Froy that is true but come on man it's not the private life of a person that dictates their place in history. Charles Chaplin was a womanizier and pedophile, elvis was an abusive alcoholic, everyone has their faults and demons from louis armstrong to jimi hendrix to chuck berry.

But chuck berry may have not been a lyrical genious like john lennon, paul mccartney, billy joel or jim morrison but you can not deny his place in history. Plus the kind of rock we think of was developed by the beatles the poetic lyrics in berry's day it was just fun it was fresh and new. berry, buddy holly, ritchie valens even elvis they all had simplistic songs. But atleast berry wrote all of his own songs. And everyone from elvis to the beatles, stones and hendrix did covers of his songs.

I'm not saying that it is, I was merely pointing out a fact that he is known to be one of the biggest pricks in rock music.

i understand bro not arguing, i just don't think a professionals private life should judge his place in history. I know thats not what you meant just a general statement. But is chuck berry really worse than Axl though?

No, but Lars is.

Anywho.JB Goode has got to be the National Anthem of Rock&Roll. It has probablly been coverered more than anyother song. (other than the Star Bangled Banner)
I saw Phish perform it at the Garden, New Years Eve 95, and when I say the place was rocking, I mean it was literaly rocking. I stood still and could feel the floors bouncing. (They also did a great version of Frankenstein -an O&A fav.) But JB Goode just kicks ass. I've seen many many shows, and when I heard this and felt the vib throughout the Garden, I got F-ing chills.

1) They're rock and roll stars, not saints.

2) Anarchy in the UK also has to be one of the most covered songs as well, I have around ten version downloaded from Napster.
