New Line (movie company) is starting production soon. Anyone think this is a bad idea?.... I mean we all saw what happened to Resident Evil.

Can't see Silent Hill being any good. They are killing the market for these movies by making them restricted (here in canada no one under 18)
is allowed. That's the market they should aim at the under 18 gamers..wtf

Was Resident Evil really that bad? I wanted to see it but I heard it was bad from allot of people. I heard Tomb Raider was bad too. What other bad ones were out there?

Video games that become movies are never successful. They always get shitty reviews, the scripts are generally lacking, and viewership is uaually limited to those people who eithe rplay the game or know of it (give or take a few people who actually go to the movie knowing nothing about it).

A perfect recent example is FF:TSW. Personally, I liked this movie. I thought the CGI was amazing, but the story - while interesting, was slow-moving, and not very ebgaging.

Another (yet older) example - Mario Bros. Worst movie ever (what the hell was Dennis Hopper thinking? Did he even READ that script?)

Movies today in general suck. There is so much money going towards CGI and overpaid actors, good scripts seem to take a back-seat to the mighty bottom dollar. Don't get me wrong, I love the CGI and whatnot but I need a decent story to make me feel that the $10 I had to spend on it was sort of worth it.

I'll gladly give you credit for remembering Mario Bros. - I'm a little ashamed to admit that I actually went to the movie theater to see that piece of shit.

I think the flaw Resident Evil had was that they killed off the only guy that looked cool and actually knew what the hell was going on. It was the light-skinned bald guy. Damn those friggin' writers that write themselves into a corner and can't get out.

Big fan of the game but I didn't think RE movie was that good but..
"The Hollywood Reporter reports that "Resident Evil 2: Nemesis" has been greenlit, just one week before the first film goes into release. Paul Anderson will again write and direct the picture.

The second film will combine characters from the first film with characters from the video game. Eric Mabius has said in the past that he will become the Nemesis villain in the second film, which will be based on the Nemsis storyline from the video game. Milla Jovovich has also expressed interest in returning."

They're screwing this up. It should be:

Resident Evil
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil: Nemesis

They'll suck anyway. I wish Albert Wesker was in the first one.

A Silent Hill movie has potential, but will in all likelihood blow. The game was soooo fuckin good..dark, creepy, scary as hell. It's my favorite PSX game ever. I remember being close to beating it, playing alone, in the dark at 2AM and I had to turn it off and continue the next day. And I don't get scared easily.

That dark, disturbing feeling can never be translated into a movie script..especially the way horror movies are written today.

I really need to get me a PS2 so I can play the sequel.

98% of the time, an original is always better - book better than its movie, game better than movie, TV show better than movie, etc...

I'd say "In The Mouth of Madness" would have to be the best horror movie since Evil Dead. Silent Hill can be a good movie, but, their is always edits and guess who screws everything up 90% of the time? The MPAA: Motion Picture Association of America. Silent Hill won't survive as long as this company is around to cut out the gore so it doesn't look "too real."

Silent Hill 2 doesn't even compare to the original. The whole dark, creepy aura was pretty much lost.

And speaking of movies adapted from video games, who can forget Mortal Kombat?

FTL is not to blame for this abomination of a sig pic.
