MTV Okay to Return to Jersey Shore

Apr. 4, 2002 9:34 am
SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. (AP)<-- It's TRUE -- MTV has received permission to return to the Jersey Shore if it wants.

Seaside Heights officials approved a special events application Wednesday that would allow the music video cable network to stage its "Summer Share" show in the Ocean County town.

MTV officials, though, have not yet selected a site for the show. Borough Administrator John Camera said Wildwood and several towns on New York's Long Island are also in the running.

Seaside Heights was the site of an MTV show during the summer of 1998, which was broadcast from a home on the north end of the boardwalk. The show featured regular beach parties which drew large crowds, and Borough Councilman Robert Giles said the show's impact is still being felt.

"You can hear people by the old site saying that this is where the MTV house was, and they get their picture taken in front of the mural on the wall that they left for us," Giles told the Asbury Park Press of Neptune for Thursday's editions. "It was a great time."

If MTV returns, it will use one of two borough-owned locations on the northern half of the boardwalk rather than a house. In 1998, some other homeowners complained about noise and commotion.

They are not allowed in Belmar NJ. They have something their in the early 90's with Kris Kross and some other shitty bands. All the Black people from Asbury and Neptune came over and started a riot and destroyed the town. What a shame. It was pretty cool until that happened.

I think that MTV has already decided on Seaside. I go to Monmouth University and MTV will be on campus in a week or so to recruit interns. There are already some flyers on campus as well looking for interns. The flyers say that the house will be in Seaside.

It's like what my great granddaddy used to say all the time -

"If we knew that they were going to be this much trouble, we would have picked the damn cotton ourselves."

I think it all started with the Declaration of Independence -- the idea that we had the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That pursuit is what took America from the revolution to the computer age in 200 years. But the progress has come at a price. The obvious being the people that were exploited to make it possible; the not so obvious being us, the first group of people that were given no obvious frontiers to conquer. We hear stories that about the good old days that don't seem to apply anymore. It's a generation gap that leaves us without role models. But the bright side is that without role models, there are no roles. Maybe that's what the 60s were all about -- getting rid of the roles. But what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, the choices become overwhelming. Sometimes it just makes everything feel hopeless. So we destroy our bodies in the search of an ideal. Try to salvage relationships that don't work. We feel we must do something, instead of doing something that we feel. It is the prison of self-imposed momentum, and the sad part is that we get used to it. It reminds me of a song I heard the other day. It's called "The Going Nowhere Fast." But the people I have met here have shown me another side of Nowhere. They've pointed out the beautiful irony that stagnation makes it easy to stop and smell the roses, if we just let it. What would we be if we had nothing to rebel against? Well we could finally be ourselves, the first group of people who stopped looking for the answers long enough to appreciate the questions. And all we have to do is to make our own Declaration of Independence. We can embrace the right to life and liberty by simply realizing that happiness exists -- not to pursue, but to accept. After that the only challenge would be to make sure with the rest of our lives that we weren't just another fad. I don't know, it's an idea. What do you think?

I think what started the riot really was because everyone had there pants and shirts on backwards and they kept banging into everyone. Actually, It was know by The schools in the area that the black kids from each school were going there to start trouble with each other. No one at the schools alerted the police. MTV had hardly any security and they were not many police up there.
[Sarcasm] It was kind of like the scene from planet of the apes where they are destoring the ship [/Sarcasm] :-D :) :-D

I dunno when they're going live but the Beach House is being built right now in Seaside Heights, NJ on the beach right in front of Lucky's Arcade... it's way the hell up on the north side past Casino Pier... and a little south of where it was last time.
