I am wondering how anybody thought this was a good movie.

I watched it last night, what a horrible movie.

It would have been a better movie if Kubrik would have done it. Spielberg made it too Hollywood. It should have ended when he fell in the water.

I didn't think it was terrible.

I do agree however, that Kubrick probably would have made it better.

What was your biggest problem with it - that it wasn't dark enough?

It really should have ended before they made it.

I didn't think it was awful per se, some parts were visually great but some parts were awful. It should have ended about 20 minutes earlier than it did, Jude Law was underused and his entire 'hate the humans' stance was lessened in order to make it a more family friendly film. Also some of the action sequences (e.g. flesh fair, chase) were really poorly done. And anyone involved in the "Ask Einstein" Segment should have their flesh ripped off their face.

And yes Kubrick would have made it better since Kubrick doth rule above all. He wanted all the buildings in the red district to look like huge penises and vaginas. Kubrick is way cool.

I thought that it was OK, but it is one of those movies where everything bad keeps happing to the main character, and you are suppose to feel bad for him. There where parts that made no sense like the Dad changing from pressuring her to keep the kid, to hey lets get rid of him. That little fucking kid that played his brother, I wished had of drowned in the pool.

I thought it interesting that in the "extras" Spielberg went out of his way to say several times that Kubrick wanted Spielberg to direct it even while Kubrick was alive, and Spielberg wanted Kubrick to do it - Maybe Spielberg's genius was in knowing who would be better to do it :)

As I said, I thought it was OK. the other son was a real dick from the beginning; if they made him truly evil or if they made him innocent it would have been better - as it is, he was kinda half assed.

It bothered me that the mother imprinted him without the father around.

Spielberg made it PG which also was kinda half assed. It really should have been R or G.

He passed up Harry Potter to do AI; I guess that worked out for Harry Potter.;)

I think so, becasue SS would have defintley not stuck to the orginal story, as I have not seen one book that he has made into a movie that he does.

Why did he put Insync in this movie too? All his films have gone downhill.

I hated his last movie before this. Eyes Wide Shut was the most awful movie I ever saw. A Vos show was more entertaining. Did not see Ai and have no intentions on seeing it.

Another thing about Kubrick's movies, Full Metal Jacket. Awesome Awesome first hour, and the 2nd hour was trash. Every time I watch it now, I only watch it to the end of Boot camp. The rest of the movie sucked. How could a movie start that good and end so badly.

Not sure what you're talking about. Lucas was supposed to have them in a scene in the new Star Wars. His daughters are big fans. From what I heard and read, he cut the scene because of the fans. But it was a split second in the background, so who knows if it will be in the final cut.

Thats pretty much how everyone feels. I don't think that the second half sucked that much. It's just that after boot camp, its not the same movie. They should have just made it about going through boot camp. The only part of the second half I like is the first five minutes, with the whore.

Just meant that everyone seems to be putting in these boy and girl bands in their shit lately and these bands suck. They have also been putting shitty actors in the movies just because it's PC and there good looking. I was referencing if he was putting them in a movie too. Just because your kids like something doesn't mean you have to ruin a movie because of it. I wouldn't go see the movie since he was going to put those fagots in it. Spielberg is becoming too politely correct. Taking that stuff out of E.T. What a pussy. This is why his movies have been sucking.
just a bunch of sell out's, that's all i'm saying.

I liked Eyes Wide Shut personally. Thought it was very well done, great atmosphere, etc.

The reason why Spielberg didn't do Potter from what I heard was that he didn't want to do it with an all British cast as per ROwling's suggestion opting for an American Potter played by Osment

Finally, someone else who liked Eyes Wide Shut. I think it's one of those movies that years after it was made, people will finally begin to rediscover and appreciate it (Seconds would be a good example). Really, it wasn't Kubrick's best work, but it is an excellent film.

As for AI, it could have been so much better. Spielberg rooned it, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it awful. More like "tragically flawed."
