He is in DC on Wednesday and at Roseland on Friday. I am going to the DC show and was wondering if anyone had seen him before. I heard that sometimes he shows up a few hours late or doesn't show up at all. Sometimes he pukes on the stage and sometimes he falls off it. Anyone seen him live before, either solo or with the Pogues?

Shane is a legendary songwriter, and a phenomenal drinker. I've been a fan of his since 1986 when I first heard his band, Stiff Little Fingers.

Mix one part punk with two parts Irish traditional. Just beware of the assholes who push up to the stage and try to slam dance - most of them are college frat boys looking for an excuse to get drunk and act ignorant. You can tell them right away - they won't know a single lyric or song title.

His years with the Pogues were his finest. He still plays many of his songs from those days. However, he was kicked out of the band for his out-of-control substance abuses.

His new band, the Popes, rock. Make sure you see them at any cost.

If you search "Shane McGowan" on Yahoo, you'll find a few websites that will give you more details about his career.

ALSO - do not miss the opening band: Seanchai and the Unity Squad. Pure class.

Man, The Pogues are one of my all time favorite
bands. I love the Shane McGowan legend, both the
music and his lifestyle. I never had the chance
to see the Pogues with Shane fronting. I noticed
his Popes shows are always real expensive, so I
never checked it out. Anyone read that book that
his girlfriend wrote with him? I heard it was
kind of disjointed and rambling, fitting I guess.
It's called "A Drink w/ Shane McGowan" or "A Toast
w/ Shane McGowan" or something lik

"Somebody took my phone number and called Afghanistan. Afghanistan! I've never talked to anyone in Afghanistan, I don't know nobody in Afghanistan, and even if did know anyone, I wouldn't talk to that Afghan ass for three hours! I won't talk to my daddy for three hours."

Yeah, I'm a bit late, but it's nice to see there's others out there who like Shane - he's always been one of my all time favorites. I've seen two of the Popes shows, and they were phenomenal. Check out their new live album - it's drunk Shane at his best. Fucking brilliant.

Donegal Express

Who dares to speak of Donegal
You get kicks in the bars and kicks in the balls
The harp that played in Tara's halls
Is burning on the dump
Virginia is a gin town
Belturbot is a sin town
And all the boys from Skintown
Are in England on the lump
Got pissed in Letterkenny
With darlin' sportin' Jenny
Spent me very last penny
And we made it in the press
The husband caught me in the bed
Tried to shoot me in the head
Had to swim the stream to get
The Donegal Express

Kahaya! You fuck!
Come Hell of high water
I might have fucked your Missus
But I never fucked your daughter
Fol-diddle-dee-ahhh
Fol-diddle-dee-ahhh
Fol-diddle-dee-ahhh
Fol-diddle-dee-ahhh

As sure as I'm Father Emmett
I've a King Dong down me Semmett
As any girl will tell you
From Cavan down to Clare
Back in sweet Virginia
In the toilet with Lavinia
I nearly fucked her brains out
And tore her party dress
A shit, a shave, a shower
And half a pint of powers
Then off again to get on board
The Donegal Express

Kahaya! You fuck!
Come Hell of high water
I might have fucked your Missus
But I never fucked your daughter
Fol-diddle-dee-ahhh
Fol-diddle-dee-ahhh
Fol-diddle-dee-ahhh
Fol-diddle-dee-ahhh

Kahaya! You fuck!
Come Hell of high water
I might have fucked your Missus
But I never fucked your daughter
Fol-diddle-dee-ahhh
Fol-diddle-dee-ahhh
Fol-diddle-dee-ahhh
Fol-diddle-dee-ahhh
