Hey guys! I'm new to this wonderful site and would like to ask everyone, how would you rate some of these fine actors in the scale of 1 to 10, and if you can be bothered then tell a reason, why you rated them that way too, ok here goes:
Johnny Depp(Edward Scissorhands, Fear And Loading In Las Vegas, From Hell, Donny Brasco)
Sean Penn (Dead Man Walking, I Am Sam, Carlito's Way)
Brad Pitt (12 Monkeys, Kalifornia, Se7en)
Denzel Washington(Malcolm X,Training Day, Philadelphia)
Tom Hanks(Castaway, Philadelphia, Saving Private Ryan)
Jimmy Stewart(It's A Wonderful Life, Vertigo, Rear Window)
Russell Crowe(Insider,A Beautiful Mind, Gladiator)
Marlon Brando(The Godfather, On The Waterfront, A Streetcar Named Desire)
Robert De Niro(Taxi Driver, Raging Bull)
Edward Norton(Fight Club, American History X, Primal Fear)
Al Pacino(Scarface, Scent Of A Woman, Godfather)
Kevin Spacey(American Beauty, Usual Suspects)
I put some films in there too, in case someone doesn't recognise the names.:-)

Thanks!

Qualifying this post by saying that its kind of
gay to rate a bunch of men. I love film, so I'm
gonna give it a shot.

Johnny Depp- a notch below being a "really good
actor". He gets credit for overcoming the whole
21 Jumpstreet bad boy thing. He's great in
"Donnie Brasco."

Sean Penn- Has always been good, from "Fast Times
at Ridgemont High" to now. My problem with him is
that he's never really been in a movie that I
really liked, plus his best movies are his earlier
ones.

Brad Pitt- He's one of the best actors around
today. "Seven, Fight Club, True Romance," all are
good movies and he does a good job in them. He's
a favorite with women, but avoids faggy flix.

Denzel Washington- I like him too, he's a good
actor. I don't think he should have won an Oscar
for "Training Day", but he should have won one for
some of his other movies. He can be a badass or
serious. I'd put him at the bottom of the list of
today's best actors.

Tom Hanks- I don't like him, he gets handed the
best scripts and just walks through the roles. I
think he's the male version of Julia Roberts. I
liked several of his movies, but he had nothing to
do with it.

Jimmy Stewart- an established icon, I don't get to
watch too many older films, so I'll go with the
crowd and say he's great.

Russell Crowe- I don't like any of Crowe's recent
movies. I liked his "LA Confidential, Insider"
days. He's a good actor and seems like a whacko.
He needs to pick better roles.

Marlon Brando- The Godfather, this excuses all his
other shitty movies. It even kind of excuses his
anti-semitisim and poor parenting.

Robert DeNiro- Come on, he's the baddest guy there
is. The only knock I would ever put on him is the
comedies. Playing a satire of your past movie
roles is not funny, ever.

Ed Norton- Maybe my favorite actor. One of the
few actors I see movies because they are in it. I
think he is absolutely amazing as an actor, he may
be the best current actor there is.

Al Pacino- He's great, same league as DeNiro, and
even a small step above. He's done some really
great roles, it would hard to name my favorite.
He's one of the all-time greats.

Kevin Spacey- the guy chooses really diverse
roles, and he gets credit for that. For every
great movie he's in, he puts out at least one
clunker. I question him being in "Pay it
Forward", I assume he only did it because the
little kid getting stabbed was so funny and
joyful, it was worth it to him.

In worst-best order:

10- Tom Hanks
9- Sean Penn
8- Johnny Depp
7- Denzel Washington
6- Kevin Spacey
5- Brad Pitt
4- Jimmy Stewart
3- Ed Norton
2- Robert DeNiro
1- Al Pacino

That was a fun list, there were some names I
didn't see on there; Harrison Ford, Christo

"Somebody took my phone number and called
Afghanistan. Afghanistan! I've never talked to
anyone in Afghanistan, I don't know nobody in
Afghanistan, and even if did know anyone, I
wouldn't talk to that Afghan ass for three hours!
I won't talk to my daddy for three hours.

Johnny Depp - 5.5 (has made too much crap, only a few gems)

Sean Penn - 7.5 (excellent actor, should spend more time in front of the camera instead of behind it)

Brad Pitt - 6 (too much hype, not enough substance)

Denzel Washington - 8 (see Glory, enough said)

Tom Hanks - 8.5 (a modern day Jimmy Stewart? he'd be a 10 if it weren't for the 80's)

Jimmy Stewart- 10 (one of the greatest of all time, few are as legendary)

Russell Crowe - 6.5 (extremely overrated, too much attitude, has to show his longeivity)

Marlon Brando - 10 (An icon who's legend grows in proportion to his waistband size)

Robert De Niro - 10 (probably one of top 2 or 3 of the last 30 years)

Edward Norton -7.5 (has unlimited potential)

Al Pacino - 10 (Godfather I & II, the rest are just footnotes)

Kevin Spacey - 8 (hasn't been able to do much in his last few outings, but was great in LA Confidential)

Other than Freeman (and maybe Gibson) I think all those guys are overrated. They usually play roles that exaggerate or "parodize" their own personalities. But they all have played enjoyable characters in good movies.

I'll do this later but Hanks is so overrated. He plays the same role over and over again- average moral guy in unusual situation.

And thanks for askign us to do your poll whether it was meant for school or your work.

And I think Depp is really underrated, he plays truly diverse roles and though the films aren't great he usually is.

And I agree, there are very few female actresses I care for and notice talent.

And as a wise man once said "Brando- pound for pound our best American actor"

I enjoyed a lot of his movies and I agree he is highly underrated. I really liked The Ninth Gate. And when he and Tim Burton work together they always hit a homerun.

If he was the star of Planet of the Apes, that movie would have been improved by AT LEAST half a star.

The fact that Hanks plays the same type of character doesn't take away from his acting ability. He takes those roles because he fits them perfectly, arguably better than anyone else around today.

He might be type cast, but that doesn't make him less of an actor. Look at John Wayne, for 40 years he played the same hero, but that was because he played it perfectly.

Morgan Freeman - 9 (one of the most underrated actors of the last 15 years, can play almost any type of character)

Ben Affleck - 4 (most overrated actor in the last 5 years, he's getting force fed down our throats. He is not the next Harrison Ford, so stop pretending he is.)

Bruce Willis - 6.5 (starting to show some depth and range, needs to be more selective with his roles)

Samuel Jackson - 4 (Makes a decent sidekick, but can't carry a lead)

Mel Gibson - 8.5 (gets too much publicity, but is has great flexibility on screen)

Johnny Depp - 6.5 (Does too many crappy movies, but when he gets a good role, he is great.)
Sean Penn - 7
Brad Pitt - 9 (Does so many great movie, has great timing and delivery)
Denzel Washington - 9
Tom Hanks - 9
Jimmy Stewart - ? (Too young to see any of his work, really)
Russell Crowe - 6 (seems to overact a bit)
Marlon Brando - 10
Robert De Niro - 10 (although his done some shitty movies lately, he always great)
Edward Norton - 10 (he scared the shit out of me in American History X, then played a wholesome children's entertainer in Death to Smoodhy. how many people can do that)
Al Pacino - 10 ("WNEW - plays all the hits")
Kevin Spacey - 10 (usual suspects, american beauty, se7en....GREAT!)
Morgan Freeman - 8 (good, but always seems to play the smart guy in the trenchcoat role)
Ben Affleck - MallRats, Chasing Amy, Dogma (no number, just those movies)
Bruce Willis - 6 (Die hard was cool)
Samuel Jackson - 7
Mel Gibson - 5 (what women want)

If you want a really good Jimmy Stewart movie, go rent Flight of the Pheonix. It's got a great supporting cast, and was truly excellent.

Johnny Depp- 8. He's willing to take some of the more outrageous roles while he could (have) been a somewhat successful leading man. He brought Ed Wood to life, Hunter S. Thompson, and he's just fun to watch. His problem is that a lot of his movies are quite bad and that if he was in the right role he blows you away.
Sean Penn - 5.5. he's a good actor but I can't really remember a lot of what he does recently and he just seems to be doing work specifically for Oscar bait which lowers him in my opinion. he's not bad but...
Brad Pitt- 10. Diversity, great to watch, boning Aniston, just plain cool
Denzel Washington- 9. he's a very good actor and black. he also plays vastly different characters and nails them all. He should have won for Malcolm X.
Tom Hanks- 6. I just don't see anything special in him. same characters, different movies he just happens to have gotten really good at it.
Jimmy Stewart- 10 because he's a legend and made "keep your chin up" one of the best lines ever.
Russell Crowe- 6. He did great when he was that little known Austrailian actor in smaller films then fame hits, he becomes the biggest thing out there and he's doing lame things. he had potential, still does.
Marlon Brando- 9.5. Great actor but deducting points for really lame movies.
Robert De Niro- 10 though he's made some bad movies lately he's still De Niro.
Edward Norton- 10
Al Pacino- 10
Kevin Spacey- 8.5 he's a good actor but he just needs more time to fully solidify himself in true greatness. with the right roles he wows you and he's actually a good SNL host.

Johnny Depp 6..a little too flaky for my liking.
Sean Penn 3..I was in California when he was filming I am Sam or Sam I am or whatever and he almost ran me over on Venice Blvd.PRICK!!!
Brad Pitt 6 He hasn't had any really super defining role.
Denzel Washington 9 and a higly underrated actor who is finally getting his props
Tom Hanks 8 has come a long way since Bosom Buddies.
Jimmy Stewart 9 one of the best of his generation
Russell Crowe 8. Underrated until a few yrs ago. I recommend Virtuosity w/Denzel..he outshone Denzel.
Brando. 5 Not as good as he is made out to be. Except as Jor-El
De Niro 10 Best in his Generation w/Pacino running a close second behind him.
Norton 3..I'm not impressed.
Spacey 5 Plays a good psycho.

Johnny Depp(Edward Scissorhands, Fear And Loading In Las Vegas, From Hell, Donny Brasco)

What about Blow? How could you forget that movie? In my opinion Johnny Depp is perhaps the most underrated actor in Hollywood....He has worked with the best and arguable (important word there) outperformed Pacino in Donnie Brasco

Sean Penn (Dead Man Walking, I Am Sam, Carlito's Way)

Overrated

Brad Pitt (12 Monkeys, Kalifornia, Se7en)

Another actor who is overlooked, Se7en is, imho, the best movie made during the 90s, Fight Club could not have been done with any other actor, and if you have ever listened to one of his audio commentaries on a dvd you'd know how much this guy really works at his craft.

Denzel Washington(Malcolm X,Training Day, Philadelphia)

Great actor, and also very smart, he picks his roles very carefully which is why he is usually so good on screen. But I do think he often recieves a bit too much praise for his performances

Tom Hanks(Castaway, Philadelphia, Saving Private Ryan)

Again, one word, Overrated...Except for Philadelphia and Saving Private Ryan I have hated his movies

Jimmy Stewart(It's A Wonderful Life, Vertigo, Rear Window)

Jimmy rules, noone will ever, EVER pull off the good guy role as well as him

Russell Crowe(Insider,A Beautiful Mind, Gladiator)

Again, another actor I find to be very overrated. Gladiator was a great movie, but I defy anyone to justify to me that it was Crowe's acting that made it great.

Marlon Brando(The Godfather, On The Waterfront, A Streetcar Named Desire)

Quite possiblly the greatest actor of all time.

Robert De Niro(Taxi Driver, Raging Bull)

Great acotr, only problem I have with him is that he does'nt work well with other big name actors, and lets face it, the movies he has put out the past few years have sucked.

Edward Norton(Fight Club, American History X, Primal Fear)

You forgot my favorite Norton movie here, Rounders. One of the great young actors, somewhat overlooked, he can play both the innocent good guy and the malicious villain very, very well....

Al Pacino(Scarface, Scent Of A Woman, Godfather)
Kevin Spacey(American Beauty, Usual Suspects)

Pacino is the greatest actor on the face of the planet right now, why? He makes others around him look good...Look at the Devil's Advocate, he made bumbling Keanu Reeves look good, and to me, that is the true mark of a great actor, someone who not only does a great job, but who also makes others around him better.

Kevin Spacey(American Beauty, Usual Suspects)

Very good actor, and he acctually managed to steal Pitt and Freeman's spotlight in Se7en

Morgan Freeman

Noone does better voice-overs, and I have yet to flat-out hate a movie he made
