Anyone going to see this movie this weekend. It is about a missing nuclear warhead aimed at the Super Bowl by terrorists. This is a little too close to real life.

I am still going to see it as it should be a very interesting movie and I always liked Tom Clancy's movies, Clear and Present Danger, Patriot Games and Hunt for Red October.

The book makes it a little MORE closer to home. The book has Middle Eastern terrorists send a nuke to the superbowl. They changed the movie to Russians. Does it make it any better??? Not really. I'm almost thinking that they should have waited to release this movie. Hollywood strikes again~! I'm surprised that more people aren't making a stink over this.

As much as i hate to see Harrison Ford not playing the Jack Ryan role going with Ben Affleck on paper seems like a good choice. Going to check it out on the weekend..

I already saw it and was very impressed with the film. It wasn't complete but it was complete enough to see that it was essentially finished except for a few sound things here or there and I thought it was quite good. Affleck was kinds of bland as Ryan (but I guess Ryan should be bland though I've never read the novels) but Freeman and Schreiber were fantastic in it. I also think if you're stupid enough to get panicked over a Jack Ryan movie, you deserve to have your face bashed in.

Does anyone know if "they" re-wrote the book that has been released with the movie?

The original book was good, long, but good, and if they changed the story for the movie, I might reread that damn thing.

Affleck sucks. I hate the thought of him as Jack Ryan.

I thought the trailer for this movie looked good, and I plan on seeing it. And so what if it hits a little "too close to home"? Maybe people need to see it to keep that sense of awareness going? I can see respecting people's feelings, but I don't see how a movie can/will cause a fucking panic - it's not War of the Worlds for Christ's sake.

How come Chris Rock is such a good comic, but is almost always in shitty movies?

The "Does it Play DVDs?!?!?" scene makes me mourn over the fall of Hopkins and Rock. But especially Hopkins who used to have some dignity.

SoaF was very good, as I said but I've never seen the books so I don't know how it compares or how characters match up. Affleck was dull but OK as Ryan but as he's just a writer maybe that's the character but he's surrounded by good folk. However I enjoyed him more than Harrison Ford- Man of Action.

I knwo I'm probably repeating what I said in my earlier post but I don't care.

Chances are the releaesd book is the same as the original Clancy novel providing the Clancy name is on it (novelizations of movies usually have a different author than the novel based on the book) so if you want to buy the original SoaF make sure it has the Clancy name as the author. It's still available, I'm sure of it.

I seem to remember this was also done as a "made for TV" movie - don't remember who was Ryan.

Ford - best Ryan to date.
Don't forget - Wasn't Alec Baldwin first film Ryan?

Alec Baldwin was the first Jack Ryan and I thought he was actually really good. I started reading the book last week but I stopped. They changed the plot from Arabs to Neo nazis...dumb dumb dumb...if you're gonna make a movie out of a book do it BY THE BOOK!!!!

well really many movies are made from books Turk, few of them keep true to the source novel.

Alec Baldwin I thought was a far better Ryan than Ford.

In addition I still considr neo-nazis a more frightening villain than Arabs.

The movie was'nt too bad, not a movie I'd watch again, but pretty good..

As for Chris Rock, I've only liked two of the movies he's been in, Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike back....Of course you can't really count the second one since he was in it for what, 5 minutes? But I thought he was good in Dogma, but beyond that his movies have stunk

Last year I went to Spain and the movie they played was Down to Earth. So seeing as how it was a long trip and I was fairly bored, I decided to see what it was all about. Not only was it the first time I've ever used a vomit bag on a plane, but it wasn't due to air sickness either.

As for Sum of all Fears I have an opinion as to why the story was changed. I don't think the major reason it was changed was because the terrorists were Arabs. The stolen nuke in the book is actually stolen from Israel. I think that this whole situation with Israel and the Middle East hits closest to home, because it seems believable with everything going on today.

As far as Tom Clancy goes, I read Rainbow Six and thought it was a great great book. It's been a while but I remember there was a part in it where terrorists attacked an amusement park that was really fucking cool.

I read the book a few times cause I thought that it was that good. When I first saw the trailer in the theater, I was pissed at how much they seemed to detract from the novel. Still want to see it, but I think that I will wait until it comes out as a rental.
And the last three movies that came about from Clancy novell's weren't really close to the book either, but the storyline and characters weren't really changed much. The reason why SoaF was good was because of the feasability of middle eastern terrorists doing this which Clancy goes into great detail with. I recommend the book, whether after seeing the movie or before, it doesn't matter, its still a good story.
