| Hey all - was gonna post this in that "Worst Movie You Ever Saw" thread, but it wasn't all that bad. Does not hold a candle to the original, though. But yeah, there it is - American Psycho 2, out on video now.
Mila Kunis (That 70's Show) plays a lone survivor of Patrick Bateman's last murder turned psycho, and William Shatner plays an ex-FBI investigator turned teacher after the "suspicious" end to the Bateman case forced him into retirement. . .this movie contains a LOT of cheese, so beware, and Kunis as the psycho is a bit off, but there's some nice violent parts, and a bit of a surprise ending. Not too bad, but again, the original was in a completley different league of films.
Anyone else have comments?

Yeah. . . .I just couldn't resist a hottie like Mila Kunis in a manipulative sexy psycho role. . .I know I'm a freak.
Plus, Shatner was hilarious towards the end, all fucked up on liquor and pills, talking to Kunis in his trademark stammer - "You. . . . .were in Patrick Bateman's. . . .apartment?!" Good stuff.

| The problem is that American Psycho is usually interpreted to be all inside Bateman's head, so the idea of a new psycho that escaped him cannot be believed. The idea of a sequel to the movie should have been shot down from the start.
Fo shizza my nizza, is it ok to say nizza?

| I saw this last night...Goddamn is it awful...

American Psycho is usually interpreted to be all inside Bateman's head
The author has said that the murders being in his head was his original vision...Which is also what makes the movie great, because of that little twist that makes it more of a black comedy than just some slasher flick....But having said that, who's to say that Bateman did not become an actual serial killer after the original movie? Infact, many people believe that the narration during the first movie is Bateman reflecting on his past, and that the "My mask of sanity is about to slip" was him remembering the time before he snapped.
There is an idea of a Gomez; some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me: only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable... I simply am not there. |
