how come when a band makes it big and gets the radio and mtv play you call them sell outs? I tought it was just being able to get paid more for what u like to do

theyre sell outs if they change their image for the sake of fame, but theres nothing wrong w/ adapting to it, w/ bands like metallica they are really huge sellouts, but if a band makes it big, and they still do what they do while trying to promote themselves theres nothing wrong w/ it

it just seems like if there is a good group no one wants them to make it

i was really disappointed about them 'selling out' because i only got to see them once live.

i hoped to see them again but i don't think i wanna pay 50 bucks to see them anymore. (thats considering if they ever get a bass player)

ive seen them about 10 times, they do kick ass everytime, so it is well worth it...

as for a bassist i heard Mike from Alice in Chains is a strong rumor...

Any band that charges $50+ per ticket, which means just about all of the big ones.

I don't think you can look at ticket prices as being sell-outs. Think of how much of those ticket costs go to all the travel expenses, stage shows, road hands, the arena charges, etc. There's a big difference between charging a lot for live performances and being a sellout.

It's my contention that they could shave a good percentage off of those prices and still turn a nice profit. Bands and artists need to take an active stand in keeping ticket prices down that that the average fan at least has a chance to see them; by not paying attention to it they are screwing their fans over.

I think the biggest sellout of the past 2 years is Limp Bizkit. when they first came out with 3 dollar bill yall, it totally rocked.. it was great.. they were in it to totally just play there music and rock out.. and then they got a bit popular and they put out a second albumn , which was a bit more radio friendly, which is fine.. then they started getting bigger, mtv, radio stations all over the country, and then the third albumn is when they really blew it..the thing that did it for me, is when fred durst went onstage to sing with Christina Aguilera..

I agree with all the bands that you all have mentioned. I'm gonna add one to this topic and say that U2 has definitely sold out. They charge $85 for a fuckin ticket, and then in the middle of their show they make an announcement to donate money to their charities. Uhhhh HELLO you just raped our wallets for tickets and now you want more money? They're making a butt-load of money to begin with, with album sales and such. Why not use your own goddamn money for charity? Don't get me wrong, they make good music but I wouldn't pay $85 for a ticket.

I think the whole sell out thing is a mix of a couple of different factors.

1) Becoming popular means a whole new world for these bands & they may not be able to deal at first.
2) Hearing their songs over & over adds to the quick boredom that sets in.
3) Bands, like everything else, change with time. (ie-Metallica's sound has progressed as they became more popular, a double whammy)
4) Sounds get old fast & popular bands feel the pressure to come up with something fresh constantly.

All in all, bands like Limp Bizkit were made to be popular. I can't classify a band as a sell out if they fit the image from the get go.

Biggest sellouts-Van Halen. They screw their own members over for fame & attention....

What I remember most vividly about that is that while PJ was carrying on with that, Green Day managed to sell out Naussa Colliseum at $12 a ticket by cutting down on their own costs and profit margins. Since TicketBastard has a stranglehold on most major venues, bands need to do what they can on their own. $50 times 15,000 seats works out to $750,000, I think there's a little room to manuver within that so shows are both profitable and afordable.

ok i wasnt gonna totally bitch about why i cant stand fred durst buti i might as well now since he is the worlds biggest asshole.

the napster thing which gave people a few free shows, ok sure that fine and dandy, but theyre throwin that out like their jesus fucking christ and theyre sacrificing for it but guess what? YOUR STILL GETING PAID its not from the ticket prices but from the sponsors taht are promoting ur tour i.e. napster

then when he bitched at scott stapp(names rigth?) on the rak blak show dysfunctional family picnic thing, hes all cryin to the fans and hes wailin and bitchin, holdin shows behind because he didnt headline over creed. all this time he talks shit so scott stapp challenges him to a charity boxing match which of course he backs down because he is a little dickfuck

the aguilera thing, my god this guy backpeddles more than vince mcmahon, hes in the eminem video that slags her and he back peddles that, they talk about their relationship and then on the VMA's they perform together, then he starts feelin some heat and hes just like "i was just tryin to get some" WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT SHIT, does this guy have any integrity at all, he threw away a whole fuckin relationship(with aguilera nontheless proving hes a fag) cause he started feeling a little heat, i didnt even mind the whole aguilera thing until he said shit like that. "xfl pregame show what pregame show?"

there u have it u made me go on this huge ass rant now... i shoulda started a new topic on this but god damn am i ever lazy

First...Metallica will never go back to their roots, my predicitons is that after this upcomming album they are threw, and im the biggest metallica fan, and it sucks to believe it

Second, The bands have no control over their ticket prices, i followed the whole PJ thing, its a matter of Ticketmaster overcharging, thats what it comes down to... and the only way to avoid ticketmaster is to play at venues without ticketmaster arrangements...Also im pretty sure that even the "Big" radio stations wont be able to premote it without it being carried by ticketmaster...There is really no way to beat it, the only way is to buy your ticket at the venue, but then still it only saves you like 6 bucks at most. Ticketmaster gets a cutback no matter what

I agree. In fact I thought the Aguilera/Durst duet was a cool and suprising addition to an otherwise boring show. Why couldn't he just say that they did to shcok the audience & that was it? What kind of tool says he was trying to get some? Did Christina approach him & say, "Fred, if you do this I'll give you a little nookie?" I effin doubt it. Last time I heard a stupid remark like that I was in gym class in 9th grade listening to a guy explain why he was caught at a ballet class...

Fred Durst=Dick!

I use to be a huge Limp Bizkit fan... I saw them way back when.. they toured with korn.. from the first album to now it's all about being MTV friendly and not about what they originally were about... I am all about them making money and whatnot, but to sell out by not being as hard as they use to that sucks... and I do agree Fred completely sold out by singing with that starving whore... =)
