Family Tradition
Country music singers have been a real close family,
but lately some of my kinfolks have disowned a few others and me.
I guess its because I kind of changed my direction.
Lord I guess I went and broke their family tradition.
They get on me and want to know
Hank why do you drink?
Why do you roll smoke?
Why must you live out the songs that you wrote?
Over and over everybody makes my predictions.
So if I get stoned, I'm just carrying on
an old family tradition.
I am very proud of my daddy's name all though his kind of music and mine ain't exactly the same.
Stop and think it over.
Put yourself in my position.
If I get stoned and sing all night long its a family tradition.
So don't ask me, Hank why do you drink?
Hank, why do you roll smoke?
Why must you live out the songs that you wrote?
If I'm down in a honky-tonk some ole slick's trying to give me friction.
I said leave me alone I'm singing all night long it's a family tradition.
Lord I have loved some ladies and I have loved Jim Beam and they both tried to kill me in 1973.
When that doctor asked me,Son how did you get in this condition?
I said, hey sawbones, I'm just carrying on an ole family tradition.
So don't ask me, Hank why do you drink?
Hank, why do roll smoke?
Why must you live out the songs that you wrote?
Stop and think it over, try and put yourself in my unique position.
If I get stoned and sing all night long, its a family tradition!
I'm not being rude. You're just insignificant.

Are we young country? Hank Jr was the shit in the 80s.
He should have seen it coming, but it happened way too fast

| You can't go wrong with Hank Williams Jr. Just like you can't go wrong with The Charlie Daniels Band. Here's one from them that kind of goes with your song:
Long Haired Country Boy
People say I'm no good and crazy as a loon
Cause I get stoned in the mornin, get drunk in the afternoon
Kinda like my ole blue tick hound I like to lay around in the shade
I ain't got no money but I've dang sure got it made
Chorus
And I ain't askin' nobody for nothing
If I can't get it on my own
If you don't like the way I'm livin'
You just leave this long haired country boy alone
Poor girl wants to marry and the rich girl wants to flirt
Rich man goes to college and the poor man goes to work
Drunkard wants another drink of wine and the politician wants a vote
I don't want much of nothing at all but I will take another toke
Repeat Chorus
Preacher man talkin' on the TV,
Puttin' down the rock and roll
Wants me to give a donation cause he's worried about my soul
He said Jesus walked on the water and I know that it's true
But sometimes I think that old preacher man'd like to do a little walkin' too
Repeat Chorus
Question: Does anybody know the hair metal band that covered this song?
