O&A Board Regular Registered: Apr. 01 | Here's the article, if anybody cares... Tori Amos Covers Eminem And Slayer On New Album (7/3/01, 6 p.m. ET) -- Tori Amos is readying Strange Little Girls for release on September 18. It's a collection of song interpretations of artists ranging from Eminem ("'97 Bonnie & Clyde") and Slayer ("Raining Blood") to the Beatles ("Happiness Is A Warm Gun") and Joe Jackson ("Real Men"). Amos's goal with Strange Little Girls was to explore the world of men--how men see women, how men see themselves, and how a perspective can shift. She also wanted to focus on violence and identity. Amos said of the idea, "I've always found it fascinating how men say things, and how women hear them." The first single from the collection will be an interpretation of the Stranglers' "Strange Little Girl," which will hit radio in mid-August. Other artists Amos covers include the Boomtown Rats ("I Don't Like Mondays"), Tom Waits ("Time"), 10cc ("I'm Not In Love"), Lloyd Cole & the Commotions ("Rattlesnakes"), Depeche Mode ("Enjoy The Silence"), and the Velvet Underground's ("New Age"). Perhaps the most interesting of the bunch is Eminem's "'97 Bonnie & Clyde" from 1999's The Slim Shady LP. Amos told LAUNCH she's no fan of certain rap songs. "I have a real thing about when some of these rappers that talk about violence against women, and I'm talking about the ones that'll say, 'You know, look it's just a song,' and I'm going, 'Look if you're going to talk about raping a woman, have the balls to stand up there and go, 'Obviously I've got some kind of anger towards women.' I don't believe in censorship, but I do believe in, 'Don't be a f--king hypocrite.'" Amos has already mapped out a fall tour. She'll hit the road starting in Miami on September 28. The trek will run through November 21 in San Francisco. Confirmed dates and venues were not available at press time.

Psychopath Registered: Oct. 00 | Dude, I was looking at the web site and I saw the headline, Her music fucking sucks and the fact that shes trying to look "HIP" by covering a Rap song and a Heavy Metal song pissed me off. I thought that maybe others in this chat would have an opinion about this also.

Psychopath Registered: Oct. 00 | Im not atacking what she stands for.........but anyone with a brain will see she's trying to CASH IN by covering a rap song and a metal song. She wants people that listen to both types of music to BUY her album and its just sad that she feels the need to make money that way.

Psychopath Registered: Oct. 00 | I agree with VG, I have listened to Tori for many years. She has an unbelievable voice and gift for expression. She has helped millions of people with the organization she founded, when they had nowhere else to go. There are so many bands/singers that do covers, and she has done her share. I dont think she's trying to cash in, because that would be saying that anyone that has done a cover is doing the same. I think she's just trying to get people to hear the words of certain artist's sung by a woman, so that they can hear the rediculousness of anybody talk about crimes against women. If you ask any woman that has been raped she would say that a song about raping women, even if in jest, is not ok. HEY!!! You asked for my opinion!!

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | But the important part when talking about music, is the music itself. I am no Tori Amos fan. How can people rip into it, without hearing it first. As far as cover bands, Joan Jett and the black hearts. I need say no more. Heaaa fishy fishy fishy fishy. And it went, wherever I, did go!

Psychopath Registered: Jan. 01 | i have to say that is a BIG departure from what i usually listen to, but i do like some of her original songs. all the covers i heard her do have been horrible, especially 'whole lotta love' and 'smells like teen spirit'

O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | thank you adolescentmasturbator, for digging up my existing comments about this topic already. quote: i beg to differ...Tori Amos has been an established musician since 1991, with 5 original albums under her belt and each one of those albums selling millions. she has in no way "cashed in" or sold out so that she would appeal to people in other music genres. quote: Lgaia: you took the words right out of my mouth, i couldn't agree with you more.

Psychopath Registered: Jan. 01 | I am also a Tori Amos fan and more power to her for having the balls to cover songs which might bring her lots of criticism. She has certainly got talent, which is more than I can say for most "musicians" out there now.
