| O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00  | I have had this dream for 5 years now, and still to this day they give me a hard time about trying to achieve it. Im sorry but I don't want to be an accountant or a teacher like you two want, I want to go to culinary school, and guess what I am! This is the first major decision i have ever made in my life that really went against your wishes and I know im going to be given hell for it, but I am not happy in what im doing now, and I need to change it. So let me be, I'm 20 years old and I know I'll always be your little girl and you want whats best for me, but my happiness is most important. Im sorry Im not the perfect child for you...maybe my brother will be I know it's wrong and it makes you nauseous. But I'm not suspicious, I'm cautious. And you know I want to love and trust you. But it's really a lot to try and adjust to. | ||||

It may keep being tense, and there may be fights, but once you're into it and they see that you're happy and successful, they'll probably back off. They may even come around eventually. Parents often have a different path in mind for their kids, but over time these things can be compromised. My parents wanted me to change jobs for a very long time, but I stuck with it and started doing well, and they got it. Now it's cool. Good luck.
