My dad had disconnected the power plug from the back of the computer (not from the outlet). So when i go to plug it in, it turned on automatically. someone must have pressed the on button on the computer which might have caused something to get fucked up. so thats probobly not a good thing. so it goes to a screen saying that windows did not fully load and that i should go into safe mode. i tryed to start it up in normal mode, but it just freezes on the blue windows screen (windows 98). i dont know what the fuck i should do. any help would be quite nice.

Try CTL + ALT + DEL when you're at the blue screen to reboot. If that doesn't work try booting with the win98 boot disk that you should've made when you installed win98...then run scandisk on your c: drive after that.

nothing can be done at the blue screen. when i start up the computer, a startup menu comes up on a black screen. there are options for normal mode, safe mode, and a few others. my friend thinks that something might have shorted when i plugged it back in....

Have you tried a win98 boot disk?

Boot to safe mode.

Right click on My Computer and choose properties.

Click the Device Manager tab.

Look in each category, and if there are any doubles delete them so only one copy remains.

See if that helps. If not we may have to move on to sysedit and shit. But try that.

Do you have updated drivers for everything? If you do, you may want to just delete both copies of the offending device.

It is normal to go in to safe mode when booting gets interupted. Let it go into safe mode, and then from the start menu after it boots into safe mode select shutdown with the restart option selected, and see if it then reboots
normally into normal mode. Let me know.

There's more to this story that you're not telling us. Pulling the plug is pulling the plug. Doesn't matter which end you pull.

The fact that it started when you plugged it back in is not suprising. That's a bios option (boot on power failure or something like that). Matter of fact, I use the power switch on my surge protector to reboot when my system freezes. But, I'm much cooler than you :-D

Booting into safe mode isn't a bad thing. It should do that when not shut down properly. It should also run scan disk. And, all you (or, your "dad") did was to pull the power cord... then it should boot in safe mode and, when you reboot it should all be fine and, boot to normal mode.

So, what else did you do? Did you install or remove any software recently? Did you pull the power cord in a fit of rage when that guys wide open asshole kept popping up interupting your pr0n/bag whackin' and accidentally get some fuck snot in an open drive bay. And, then try to wash it out with a garden hose before your dad came home and found you wearing his underwear?

If something shorted, which is pretty damn unlikely, it's got to be an add-on card... sound, modem, video, network, whatever... and when Windows tries to load its driver, it could be hanging.

First thing's first, boot to either a Win98 Startup Disk or a command prompt and run ScanDisk. It might just find and fix a problem and you're good to go.

while i was at school today, my dad called up compaq support and they asked for the serial number. when he turned the computer over to look, he saw that the ethernet card was halfway popped out. he popped it back in and all is well now. thank you all, i will try not to waste your time in the future :-D
